About

Brought to life by a groundbreaking all-female creative team, this irresistible new hit features original music and lyrics by 6-time Grammy nominee Sara Bareilles ("Brave," "Love Song"), a book by acclaimed screenwriter Jessie Nelson (I Am Sam) and direction by Tony Award® winner Diane Paulus (Pippin, Finding Neverland). "It's an empowering musical of the highest order!" raves the Chicago Tribune.

Inspired by Adrienne Shelly's beloved film, WAITRESS tells the story of Jenna (Bareilles). A waitress and expert pie maker, Jenna dreams of a way out of her small town and loveless marriage. A baking contest in a nearby county and the town's new doctor may offer her a chance at a fresh start, while her fellow waitresses offer their own recipes for happiness. But Jenna must summon the strength and courage to rebuild her own life.

"WAITRESS is a little slice of heaven!" says Entertainment Weekly and "a monumental contribution to Broadway!" according to Marie Claire. Don't miss this uplifting musical celebrating friendship, motherhood, and the magic of a well-made pie.

    Enjoyable

by Cyndi B on 4/27/22The Santander Performing Arts Center - Reading

Overall the show was really good. The characters were really likable and very talented. The only issue we had was that it started over 30 minutes late, with no announcementas to why. On a night when most people work the next day, this is a big deal.

    A wonderful show!

by khoffman403 on 4/27/22The Santander Performing Arts Center - Reading

Show started almost 45 minutes late with no explanation but otherwise the show was fantastic. The music and show were entertaining! All the performers and musicians were top notch. I would not recommend taking a small child to the show. This would be a good show to enjoy with your significant other or girlfriends.

    Waitress

by Disappointed on 4/27/22The Santander Performing Arts Center - Reading

We have been to many shows at Santander Performing Arts Center and have always enjoyed the shows . Unfortunately I can not say the same about Waitress… The sound was so bad that we missed most of the dialogue and songs..Many of the people around us were complaining about the same issue.. The show started 45 minutes late with no explanation. We were in the upper level and the lighting crew in the corner were so loud… talking and dropping things.. that some of the audience asked them to be quiet. That was very unprofessional..The cast was very disappointing…there was no chemistry between the characters and no pizazz in their acting..Overall this was a very disappointing evening and because of this we may have to start going to other venues for events..That is such a shame since we have enjoyed many shows in the past.

    Pat’s Waitress Review

by Pat on 4/27/22The Santander Performing Arts Center - Reading

We were very pleased to obtain tickets an a discounted price. The starting time of the show was delayed for about 45 minutes, with no reason given to the audience. In the beginning it was difficult to hear the words spoken or sung by the actors, because the background music was too loud. It was very confusing to get the idea of what was happening, because the words were lost! This situation improved after intermission in the second act, so adjustments in the sound system must have been made. During intermission I googled the lyrics to the music which helped us better understand what had transpired. We enjoyed the rest of the show much better. The voices of the performers were excellent, and all parts were well cast and performed. We enjoyed the show very much and we’re glad we had the opportunity to see it.

    Venue needs work

by Brrrrr on 4/27/22The Santander Performing Arts Center - Reading

Show started close to 45 minutes late without any explanation! Show was slow at the start, but picked up as it went on. The background music was too loud and drowned out the songs and dialogue, so it might have been better if more of lyrics and dialogue could be heard.

    Disappointing

by cjs77 on 4/27/22The Santander Performing Arts Center - Reading

The performances & music were great, but the sound was terrible. Unable to understand what they were saying or singing. I perform in community theater, and our sound system is better quality than this. Plus, there were workers behind our section dropping metal object & making a lot of noise, making it even harder to hear. I am glad I did not pay full price for our tickets. I believe the theater should issue refunds, as we were not the only ones to complain.

First of all - it started 45 minutes AFTER curtain time - terrible sound system - lyrics could not be understood over loud band - acting and singing good but lyrics unable to be understood most of the time - great cast - sound engineer ruined show - NO program so actors did not even get credit they deserved - great story - both silly and sad - but experience overall not nearly as good as it should have been

    Fantastic show But!

by Sadsak on 4/27/22The Santander Performing Arts Center - Reading

Great performance. Sound was terrible. Couldn’t hear some words spoken. Not sure if it was the sound system or performer. I’m not the only person complaining. The show started 40 minutes late. Again no idea why.

    Entertaining

by Pops on 4/27/22The Santander Performing Arts Center - Reading

Entertaining show. Enjoyed the singing and dancing. One small complaint/suggestion: the music was a bit too loud in my view overwhelming the singing at times. Venue was nice with plenty of good seats even for handicapped, but handicap ingress/egress limited.

    Poor production

by J. C. on 4/27/22The Santander Performing Arts Center - Reading

This was about as poor a production as I’ve ever experienced. Most of it was due to the poor sound mixing. In the front of the balcony we could not hear most of the dialogue. Even the theaters attendants agreed they too couldn’t hear most of the speaking parts unless the characters were shouting. Then the singing, the band overpowered most of that as well. They actors had to be at full throttle to be heard. Now for the worst for those who sat in the balcony. The production had a light and crew at the back of the balcony. I was in row D and could hear their conversations better than the actors. They were asked to stop talking and playing on their cellphones by audience members but the conversations continued. At intermission, we asked the attendants who could rectify the situation and they said “the manager”. Well who is “the manager”. The point of this is why should we be paying over a $100 to be annoyed and disappointed. I know the theater has no over sight of the production but they should be available to the audience when there are issues. The attendants took the brunt of the criticism but they are just part time staff. Stay away from this is you are not interested in stage hand conversations.

    Waitress

by Shawn on 4/27/22The Santander Performing Arts Center - Reading

While we enjoyed the performance, overall we were quite disappointed. The show was scheduled to begin at 7:30 PM. We were not allowed to access our seats until approximately 7:20 PM and the show did not begin until a little after 8:00 without any explanation or acknowledgement. Intermission was similar in that it was extremely long. We certainly did not expect a Broadway caliber performance, but during the show it was difficult to hear some of the performers as the sound system seemed to be poor. We bought the tickets as a birthday gift for our son and he even commented at intermission how hard it was to hear and understand some of the performers. Additionally, we were seated on the balcony right center with the lighting crew approximately 10 rows to our rear and left. The lighting technicians could be heard talking throughout the entire show and were quite noisy as it appeared one of the lights may have malfunctioned and they were trying to fix it. At one point an audience member mumbled just turn it off and another audience member seated near us asked them to be quiet and were told if they didn't like it they could sit somewhere else. I understand that parking can be a challenge when the theater lets out, but when we got to our car a few blocks away, we sat in out car for 35 minutes before we were able to exit. Also regarding parking. while I certainly could have been better prepared and researched parking in advance, there seemed to be very little signage as to where theater parking was available. It also would have been nice to have some directional signage at the exit instructing drivers which direction to turn for the major roads. As excited as we were to see this show at such a great price, I don't think we will be returning to this theater anytime soon.

    Technical Problems - Great Cast

by J. G. on 4/27/22The Santander Performing Arts Center - Reading

I've seen the show twice on Broadway, once with Sara B, herself, in it. This touring version had all the heart of the Broadway version and our Jenna was fantastic. She was much better, a warmer character, a more developed person, a better sense of comedic timing than Ciara, who was the other Jenna I saw. Standout performance this time from Ogie. But frankly, the whole cast was sensational, and it was clear they were relying on some understudies this performance. - On the technical front, the sound board needed help. Almost no dialogue could be understood without really straining. We had great seats and my hearing is fine. But it was quite difficult for the entire show to hear spoken dialogue. (I was hoping this would improve after intermission but it did not.) I was sorry that was the experience for my teen daughter who was new to the show. - The whole show also started 35 minutes late with no explanation which felt chaotic and unprofessional. The evening just kind of felt like the manager was off-duty that night and everyone was doing their best. But it lacked a polish that this cast deserved. - Finally, the scaled down set design of the diner didn't quite work for me - Cal and his comedy got lost in all those rolling racks. I'd love to see that visually improved.

    Great performers, so so venue

by Nikkid on 4/27/22The Santander Performing Arts Center - Reading

I will start by praising the performers. Voices and acting were really great. Sad however, that the acoustics/sound was not so great. Could not hear the performers well enough to distinguish what was being sung. The venue in the other hand was disappointing. Again, the sound was off. The show started over 30 minutes late. This is the second show I’ve seen there recently that failed to start even close to on time. It was a Sunday night. I hesitated to even get tickets due to the late end time. I counted on them starting on time to get home, only losing a little sleep. Unfortunately the show started late, I struggled to stay awake for the last part of the show, and spent the next day exhausted from missing some precious sleep time. Yes, I was that affected by a 30some minute delay. I will. Think very hard before I buy tickets at this venue again. Sad as it it the only venue if it’s type in my town.

    Enjoyed overall

by RNMom on 4/23/22Broome County Forum Theatre - Binghamton

Enjoyed the second half much more than the first half but overall loved the show. Had difficulty understanding the first couple of songs, partly because the music was so loud. The casting was fantastic, the plot humorous, and set design was fabulous! Wonderful talent & am glad we went. Will recommend to others also.

Cute Show That Just Makes You Happy!

    by KL on 4/14/22

Loved the show. I loved Jisels fresh take on Jenna. Watching her sing was amazing! I left the show feeling both calm peaceful and energetic happy at the same time. I loved that feeling so much I had to see this show twice! On a downturn I did think the accents were too unnatural and distracting from the acting. I wish those were let go of with new actors but otherwise loved everything. The movie would have been much more modern without the fake accent too. Ehh... I also loved how much it wasnt like the movie. :D thanks for the great experience either way! Still 5 stars!!!
