About

Brought to life by a groundbreaking all-female creative team, this irresistible new hit features original music and lyrics by 6-time Grammy nominee Sara Bareilles ("Brave," "Love Song"), a book by acclaimed screenwriter Jessie Nelson (I Am Sam) and direction by Tony Award® winner Diane Paulus (Pippin, Finding Neverland). "It's an empowering musical of the highest order!" raves the Chicago Tribune.

Inspired by Adrienne Shelly's beloved film, WAITRESS tells the story of Jenna (Bareilles). A waitress and expert pie maker, Jenna dreams of a way out of her small town and loveless marriage. A baking contest in a nearby county and the town's new doctor may offer her a chance at a fresh start, while her fellow waitresses offer their own recipes for happiness. But Jenna must summon the strength and courage to rebuild her own life.

"WAITRESS is a little slice of heaven!" says Entertainment Weekly and "a monumental contribution to Broadway!" according to Marie Claire. Don't miss this uplifting musical celebrating friendship, motherhood, and the magic of a well-made pie.

Waitress was a home run !!

Desi Oakley was amazing. What a powerful voice and what an acting talent. The story was captivating and the entire ensemble was engaging and vibrant. Jeremy Morse was hilarious as Ogie, and almost stole the show ... save for the outstanding perfomance by Ms. Oakley. Great venue, great music ... great show.

    Delightful and Thoughtful Entertainment

    by EDMD22 on 11/11/17Ohio Theatre - Columbus

"Waitress" was a delightful 2.5 hour romp (including a 20-minute intermission). It did start 20 minutes late and included several miscues (a stage prop with the star seated on it was being rapidly wheeled off stage when it struck a barrier at the stage edge and jostled the star). Using pies and dreams as metaphors, it told the story of downtrodden and verbally abused waitress Jenna, a master of pie-making, and her self-improving enabling affair with a kind and supportive but adulterous (and unethical) obstetrician. We follow her through nine months of pregnancy and the birth of her daughter, and delight in the musical's resolution. A wonderful supporting cast added fun and instructive subplots and musical numbers, with excellent acting and many comedic moments.

I had not heard of this musical ahead of time or movie or any of the back story on it. I loved the show and now want to see the movie. It was well worth seeing. We had a great time.

All the cast had excellent voices. Jenna was superb, as was Becky and Dawn. Ogie stole the show. The storyline was uplifting.
