    We left at intermission

by Four Friends on 4/30/24Town Hall - New York

I don’t know where this competition took such a dramatic turn, but for those of us who thought we were going to see acts with the cleverness and creativity of Pitch Perfect, it was a bitter disappointment. Just lead singer and harmonies, like any musical you might see. And all the songs young adult angst and disappointment. We’ll never attend another.

    A long but fun night

by Chris L on 4/30/24Town Hall - New York

This was my first time attending a live collegiate a cappella competition. My wife and I both love the genre and decided to attend on a whim. What a fun night and a great show. The various performances were full of energy and creativity. We each left humming favorite selections from the show. The only down-side to the show was the long breaks between performances and the hostess' attempts to engage and entertain the audience during these breaks. She was very high-energy throughout, but throughout the course of the evening she was a bit much. Throughout the show we heard far too much about the hostess and how she was able to say/do/sing/etc. all that she wanted because she had the mic. If there really needs to be such long breaks between performances, perhaps the show can present brief (2-3 minutes) video clips or narration about the upcoming group's identity, motivations or journey to finals. That would engage the audience, showcase the performers and provide a little cover while changing over from one group to the next in the background. All that aside, we're looking forward to coming back again next year to see the groups that have made it to finals. They really were fantastic performances.

    Best competition/concert

by eric on 3/12/24UB Center for the Arts - Mainstage Theatre - Buffalo

This was my 3rd or 4th year attending this show at U.B. Definitely the best of them all, not a less than stellar group among the 10. Sound was great, seats were great, atmosphere was great and 10 great vocal groups vying to get to the finals. Literally my only complaint is the group I had in first place didn't even place, but what do I know.

    Oh What A Night!

by WannaBe on 5/4/22Town Hall - New York

This night was filled with such excitement and energy - from the competitors to the crowd - it was such a fun experience. The talent on the stage was amazing - the performers poured their hearts and souls into every song. The evening ran smoothly and we were entertained from beginning to end. Congrats to everyone involved - you put on a really great "show"

    Not worth the hype

by Bofill on 4/27/22Town Hall - New York

It was my first ICCA competition. I had heard so many things about it, but it didn't seem as though the judges judged a capella. I thought this was some sort of professional collegiate competition. Compared to the winners, there were some wonderful groups who performed but didn't place at all. I felt bad for them as they were exceptional. I don't think it's worth it for the teams to spend so much money to get to the finals at NYC for this level of competition. My suggestion to them is to stay close to home. Release EPs and perform locally. This just didn't seem worth the hype.

    Impressed!

by JanD on 4/26/22Town Hall - New York

I attended both the HS Varsity ICHSA and Collegiate ICCA finals for the national A Capella championship titles. Wow, wow, wow! The musical talent of the 9 varsity and 10 collegiate groups was simply amazing! The impeccable vocals, choreography and song arrangements from each group showed how much time these groups must have spent in practice; it must be hundreds of hours for each group. Each group was given 10 minutes to perform their 3 songs- go over and there is an automatic reduction of one placement. Hosts- Courtney Jensen and Cooper Kitching provided banter as a segues between the group performances; often silly but needed to break the tension- these after all were the performances for a National Title of the best A Capella group in the world. For both nights- the top 3 groups were amazing and the title winners were exceptional. First place Varsity group was KC SoundProof from Overland Park, Ks. The collegiate group was Pitches and Notes from the University of Wisconsin Would I go again? Yes!!!

    Don't really like a cappella

by ac on 4/26/22Town Hall - New York

Honestly I came to support someone I cared about, but I was blown away by the talent of all the groups. I was really surprised at the judges final decisions, and most people around me agree that some groups got gypped. I got kinda bored of the same style after a while. But the people were so cool and the after party was amazing. I would go again if I could.
