Fun but started too late for a weeknight

by Paulsan on 4/24/24The Observatory - Santa Ana

The ad said the show would start at 8pm but in fact that's when the doors opened. The show didn't start until after 9 which would've been fine if it was a weekend. Hopefully the next show will be on a Friday or Saturday night. The music was good, though. Fun costumes too.

Denver 4/20 Disco felt like a money grab </3

by JM on 4/23/24Summit - Denver

TL;DR: Grossly overcrowded with a subpar DJ I've been to at least 5 Gimme Gimme Events-- overall, they have been great! However, I wanted to leave feedback on the most recent one I attended to hopefully give organizers a heads-up, because the 4/20 dance in Denver fell really flat and made me feel cheated out of my money and time. 1. The dance floor was SO CRAMPED to the point where you could barely bring your arms out from the sides or move safely on and off the dance floor. It was basically impossible to find/get to your friends, naturally circulate in/out to get another drink or go to the bathroom, etc. without being jostled, spilled on, or having to press your body on other people's bodies in mutually uncomfortable ways. 2. This particular DJ felt really out of touch (it was 4/20; you can read between that euphemism) and was mixing music in confusing, anticlimactic ways that made it a struggle to keep good energy going. He insisted people open up a circle under the disco ball out of nowhere when there was already barely any space to move. There were maybe 10 minutes I genuinely enjoyed myself in the hour and a half I was able to last before not believing it was worth it to stick it out until the end. In general, I feel like this event has always been slightly overpriced (it's literally just a themed music set where sometimes they drop balloons), but I've been willing to pay over and over again because I love having a place and time to dance with my friends to disco music. This time I felt cheated out of my money and my experience; whatever changes were made from organizing it in the past resulted in a huge disappointment! I was not able to enjoy dancing and being with my friends because the crowd had everyone fighting for their lives, and the disco music and vibes were being grossly mishandled by someone who didn't even seem present enough to operate a Lime scooter, let alone be aware of how his MCing and music choices were being received. PLEASE PRESERVE ADEQUATE SPACE WITH TICKET CAPS (don't only go off of fire department capacity) AND BETTER VET DJ BOOKINGS IN THE FUTURE <3

Not as many ABBA songs as I thought

by NL on 4/23/24Summit - Denver

The balloons were a lovely touch, but the DJ lacked proficiency in making the songs flow nicely. Some of the disco songs were fun, but for an ABBA themed night, there was very little ABBA. The idea of letting people suggest songs through instagram was nice in theory, but I would have preferred a curated, fully ABBA themed concert.

    Cool idea!

by Loulo on 4/22/24The Observatory - Santa Ana

The music is great. But they don’t have a set dj. Sometimes the dj rocks sometimes it seems like it’s their first time lol.

Songs too long, transitions could have been better

by Tori on 4/21/24The Observatory - Santa Ana

For $20 this wasn’t bad. My friend and I love disco, we dress up, we recently went to Disco Trip in LA last Nov. The venue was small but still good, DJ played a lot of bangers everyone including us were singing along loving it. Songs were a bit too long the crowd stopped singing along and dancing after a while during each song, transition from one so another could have been blended more. Over all for $20 it was good.

    Meh

by Pixie on 4/16/24Brooklyn Bowl - Brooklyn

Music was mediocre, started an hour later than advertised. Not worth my time. The venue was super cool though !

    No videos- too much non-Disco

by Disco Lover on 4/15/24Music Farm - Charleston

We've gone to this a few other times, and there were always music videos of the song they were playing on the screens behind the DJ. This time there was nothing except the Gimme Gimme Disco graphic which was disappointing. . And this DJ did not dance around and get the crowd fired up like the previous DJ. Pretty sure every single song recorded by ABBA was played- and too much non-disco music was played.

    A TIME

by Abby on 4/10/24House of Blues Chicago - Chicago

Im going every year now. The most fun event I have gone to in a while. How do I become friends with the DJ asking for a friend?

    Amazing time

by DiscoQueen on 4/9/24Commodore Ballroom - Vancouver

This is the 2nd time I have attended this event. It is so well attended, I love that there are people of all ages, that everyone dresses for Disco and everyone dances. There is nothing bad about this event and....drinks are a great price! I WILL go again.
