James Taylor in Concert
James Taylor is the archetypal singer/songwriter, who helped create the template for the troubadour style that dominated the 1970s. And when he brings his blend of folk, pop, rock, and soul influences to the stage, it's like a part of history is unfolding before the crowd, with enough tuneful energy to generate some major good-time vibes. The five-time Grammy-winning, multi-platinum songsmith offered up tracks like "Fire and Rain" and "You've Got a Friend" to the collective pop-cultural consciousness in the '70s, and they've stayed there ever since. Of course, he's continued to make compelling music for many decades, and his shows are a grab bag of transfixing new tunes and beloved classics. Taylor's 2018 tour with his All-Star Band (not to be confused with Ringo Starr's similarly named group) also shows how much a crew of world-class players can bring to a classic catalog. Some of the most renowned musicians on the planet lend their talents to the band, including drumming god Steve Gadd, hotshot jazz pianist Kevin Hays, legendary saxman Lou Marini, and more.
James Taylor Background
James Taylor was born in Boston, but moved to North Carolina a few years later, and the bucolic settings of his childhood eventually informed the pastoral side of his songwriting in a major way. He learned guitar in his adolescence, soaking up folk and blues influences before hitting the coffeehouse circuit in the '60s. Before too long he was in Greenwich Village fronting a band called The Flying Machine, but he soon emerged as a solo singer/songwriter. His 1970 album ‘Sweet Baby James' became a game-changer for the whole '70s music scene. Alongside the likes of Carole King and Joni Mitchell, Taylor epitomized the thoughtful, acoustic-based ballad style that came to dominate the era, and ubiquitous hits like "Fire and Rain" and "Country Road" were central to that style. In later years Taylor showed his versatility by scoring smash singles with covers of R&B tunes like Marvin Gaye's "How Sweet It Is (To Be Loved By You)" and Jimmy Jones' '50s hit "Handyman," and Taylor has never stopped finding fresh ways to bring his work to the huge audience that's been addicted to his music for decades.

James Taylor was even better than I thought he would be! A truly out of mind experience. WOW! Bravo! Bravo!
The pre-concert traffic was awful. At least three choke points of traffic funneled to small, narrow road. Once in, the people that were directing where to park did an outstanding job. The walk to the venue took about 10 minutes. The crowd flow into the gates was handled very efficiently. The concert was great, but the pre-concert traffic left a bad impression on the overall experience.
We enjoyed the concert. Didn't really enjoy the $17.++ beer. But as far as the performances, no problems.
Another fantastic concert experience at Dickies Arena in Ft Worth, TX. James Taylor is such a good entertainer, his performances never let you down they only leave you wanting more. Very smooth performance and he is always so humble for your support & attendance. He is an oldie but such a goodie. Dickies Arena always accommodates attendees so politely and hands on. Love attending concerts there because it's always clean, maintained and managed so well. Money always well spent for all that you receive. Thank you JT & and thank you Dickies staff & management for an outstanding event.
The venue is awesome. We sat in handicap seating as my wife and I both use walkers . Justcwish I had known of the wheelchair service But will use it next time. James Taylor was awesome his voice was just as good as back in the day. And his band and background singers amazing. Was nice that his son tours with him. I will definitely recommend this venue to all my friends.
James Taylor did truly put together an all-star band of terrific musicians. His style is the same high quality as always, and his quirky sense of humor made the audience feel like they were jamming in a casual house environment. He played most of his greatest hits, but his catalog is so vast that he wasn't able to include all of his fan favorites.
James Taylor and his All Star Band delivered a very first-rate performance, even though it was the final performance of a very long road tour. Every set of the show was a smooth, soulful blend of memorable songs from his long distinguished career. It was my first time to attend one of his concerts, and I hope that it will not be my last. JT gave full credit to each and every member of his distinguished entourage who have contributed so very much to the success of the long, grueling tour.
James Taylor entertains, enlightens and invigorates. What an artist! What a performer! What a guy!
It was a great concert! There would not have been enough time for him to play all of his hits, however, he did play two hours of big hits. Regardless of his age, he looked and sounded terrific.
That concert was so great! Seeing James Taylor was iconic in itself but the opening band was a definite plus (been listening to their music since). Having Taylor’s son as one of his backup singers was truly special. Dickies Arena is a top notch venue!
