About

Plan your escape to the new musical about the choices we make—and the people we become—once we’ve had a change in latitude.

ESCAPE TO MARGARITAVILLE is the musical comedy getaway featuring both original songs and your most-loved JIMMY BUFFETT classics, including “Come Monday,” “Volcano,” “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” and many more. With a book by Emmy® Award winner GREG GARCIA (“My Name is Earl,” “Raising Hope”) and Emmy® Award nominee MIKE O’MALLEY (“Survivor’s Remorse,” “Shameless”), this rousing and refreshing new production is choreographed by Tony Award® nominee KELLY DEVINE (Come From Away, Rock of Ages) and directed by the Tony Award® winner CHRISTOPHER ASHLEY (Come From Away, Memphis).

Imagine a place where the sun is hot, the water’s warm, and the drinks are as cold as they are plentiful. Welcome to Margaritaville, the island paradise where city folk get away from it all, and the locals get into the kind of trouble you can almost always sweet talk your way out of. Take a break from your troubles, make some new friends at the bar, and kick back to the soothing sounds of the steel drum. It doesn’t get much better than this. All you need now is a ticket.

ESCAPE TO MARGARITAVILLE

More than a musical. It’s a way of life.

    Fun play

by BSNE on 12/1/17Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

The play was great! It was amazing how they could tie so many Jimmy Buffet songs together to make a fun play. The female lead has an amazing voice! The play got a little slow before the end of the first act but the second act picked up and pulled it all together and perked the whole play up. The actors in the second act had a lot more enthusiasm and made it fun! Certainly worth going to, but how could you miss with great Jimmy Buffet music!!

    Ready for Vacation

by AndyB185 on 12/1/17Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Mama Mia for Parrot Heads. A few of the songs felt like a stretch, but overall they told a nice, fun story. There are a lot of inside jokes only the fans will understand, but I think virgins would enjoy the show also. You will crave a cheeseburger the next day!

This was very very entertaining. The cast fit the roles perfectly, talented actors and musicians. The humor was better than I expected. We laughed a lot and sang along. Wonderful memories

    Good not great

by Anonymous on 11/29/17Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

It was entertaining with good dancing and songs. Somewhat cheesy with a bit of a forced story line. Disappointed that several of the great Buffet songs were parodied and that none of the songs were completed, much shortened with partial lyrics.

    MMMMMMMaginative Margaritaville

by Le0525 on 11/29/17Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

The venue was nice. Great views from everywhere. Great concessions (Margaritas)! The interweaving of the story with the songs was very imaginative and fun for the audience to sing along! The cast, crew and choreography we all fantastic! Also, the set was brilliant. The use of the same pieces for different scenes was awesome. I really liked the car and the airplane. Thanks for a great time!

    Escape To Margaritaville

by Anonymous on 11/29/17Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Lots of nonstop energy. Excellent story woven into Jimmy Buffet's great, tropical music. This was fun, especially on a cold Chicago afternoon. Enjoy now because this will be a sure Broadway winner when it gets to New York.

Playful adventure in Margaritaville. Enjoyable musical that becomes more energetic during the second half. Always a treat to spend time with JB's music.

    Great show

Music and performers were wonderful. Parrotheads will enjoy the story from all their favorite songs. Everyone else is there for an indoor tropical party.

    Fun show with great music!

by Chvgt on 11/28/17Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Escape to Margaritaville is a very lite musical with some funny, charming moments. It moved quickly and the performers were all excellent. The very accessible and well known lyrics are mostly about drinking and finding a babe...what more do you expect from Jimmy Buffet?

    Margaritaville was terrific!

by Jiffy23 on 11/28/17Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Well conceived, cleverly written, incorporating many of the Buffett favorites and few new songs. Casting, acting, singing and orchestra were all magnificent. A fun and unforgettable play!

    Buffett Does Broadway

by lastmangoinchicago on 11/28/17Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

It definitely wasn't Shakespeare, plot-wise, but it was a very enjoyable time, with lots of energy. With a Jimmy Buffett score, how could you go wrong?

Escape to the music of JB

by Gurneedave on 11/28/17Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Music was great, closest to a Jimmy Buffett concert without attending one! Play was predictable but well acted.

    buffet songs made it

by Joeypal on 11/28/17Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Show was great. Need to be a Buffet fan to appreciate the play. Theatre was fantastic. Staff was a cluster. Warm beer, not seating until 15 minutes before showtime, lack of ladies toilets.

Weak story line and cheesy sets.

by DannNe on 11/28/17Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Enjoyed the music and the characters, but the story around it was weak and the set changes were too frequent and in some cases very cheesy.

Perfect story line for Jimmy Buffet songs!

by Craftygirl56 on 11/28/17Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I was wondering how they would get all of Jimmy Buffets songs into a 2 1/2 hour musical and tell a story, but they did! It was cute and funny, very entertaining as we sang right along with the cast!

    Mr. Manta

by SillyWalks on 11/28/17Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I recommend the play with a very notable *. If you know Jimmy Buffett music and general storyline it was light and entertaining. If you are not familiar, save yourself some time and money and do something else that evening. The story is very thin and light and it won't hold your interest. If you do know Jimmy's material, it was well worth it.
