About

Plan your escape to the new musical about the choices we make—and the people we become—once we’ve had a change in latitude.

ESCAPE TO MARGARITAVILLE is the musical comedy getaway featuring both original songs and your most-loved JIMMY BUFFETT classics, including “Come Monday,” “Volcano,” “Cheeseburger in Paradise,” and many more. With a book by Emmy® Award winner GREG GARCIA (“My Name is Earl,” “Raising Hope”) and Emmy® Award nominee MIKE O’MALLEY (“Survivor’s Remorse,” “Shameless”), this rousing and refreshing new production is choreographed by Tony Award® nominee KELLY DEVINE (Come From Away, Rock of Ages) and directed by the Tony Award® winner CHRISTOPHER ASHLEY (Come From Away, Memphis).

Imagine a place where the sun is hot, the water’s warm, and the drinks are as cold as they are plentiful. Welcome to Margaritaville, the island paradise where city folk get away from it all, and the locals get into the kind of trouble you can almost always sweet talk your way out of. Take a break from your troubles, make some new friends at the bar, and kick back to the soothing sounds of the steel drum. It doesn’t get much better than this. All you need now is a ticket.

ESCAPE TO MARGARITAVILLE

More than a musical. It’s a way of life.

I am a huge Jimmy Buffett fan, my husband is not. We both thoroughly enjoyed this show. It has humor, wit, and awesome music. Expect to be entertained and leave with a smile on your face humming your favorite Buffett tune.

    What a great Escape!

by EmDubz on 11/27/17Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

My father (at almost 70!) is a HUGE Jimmy Buffett fan (aka, Parrothead). So, when the opportunity came up to go see Escape to Margaritaville, we jumped! And let me tell you - what a great show it was!! The writing is so brilliant and funny - it's like Easter Eggs hidden through the show! Suddenly, a song is sung and it's like - OH - I get it!! It's a really fun, upbeat show that we all enjoyed! We were seat dancing, mouthing some words - singing when we were encouraged to. And the entire atmosphere of the theatre was so fun and festive - some theming added to the lobby to accompany the show. Now, the show here is still in previews - so it may change before it gets to Broadway - but our group of 4 was pretty much all in agreement on one thing: the zombies are weird. We weren't sure why they were there, or why there was so much emphasis on them? There was nothing they added to the storyline, except to give audience members a moment to say, "Umm, what?"

    Excellet Innenduo's Throughout!

by margaritalover2 on 11/27/17Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

My family and I really enjoyed the music and sexual overtones throughout the entire play. The dancers and set designers were great as well...the bar woman was beautiful! I would highly recommend this to anyone who loves good music, dancing, singing and filled with sexual tension!

    Escape to Margaritaville is excellent.

by KaptainKlutz5 on 11/27/17Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

This play involved the romantic complications of three couples in a tropical paradise. The songs of course are excellent, and the storyline plot is very funny....well worth seeing.

    Wonderfully Amazing!

by WisconsinDan on 11/27/17Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

An absolutely wonderful show! We all know that most of Jimmy Buffet's songs are short stories. He has done a wonderful job of weaving tons of these stories into a musical masterpiece! This show is laugh out funny and tender all at the same time. The "He went to Paris" scene brought tears to my eye... See it while it is close, otherwise get to New York. It's a must see!

Lively musical with a cute storyline

by CJshore on 11/27/17Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

I was pleasantly surprised at how nicely the songs were woven into the story . There were plenty of theatrics ... actors “swimming “ across the stage . .. and a great ending with audience participation encouraged.

    work to do but...

by a1bengal on 11/26/17Oriental Theatre Chicago - Chicago

Went to see escape for margaritaville in Chicago pre Broadway. the 1st half of the show dragged in a bad sitcom type of way .the characters have lovely voices and the songs have been re written to suit the show however the length of time it takes to develop these characters was very long. there were odd and discordant events in the play which did not add to it appeal ,a for instance is the dancing Gray zombie salesman. the 2nd half of the play which was attended by about 2/3 of the audience since several left at the interval, was more energetic and the audience seemed to be more engaged with the finale drop of beach balls a event that got everyone on their feet and thus further involved in the margaritaville experience it is my hope that this play will go to Broadway in a cleaner and more interesting form, showcasing the talent and the Jimmy Buffett book of songs .
