Willie Nelson is one of the most successful country music singer-songwriters in history, releasing 68 studio albums and 10 live albums. He wrote his first song at the age of seven and joined his first band at ten, playing concerts as a lead singer and guitar player while still in high school. He spent the ‘50s and ‘60s writing songs for established acts such as Ray Price and Patsy Cline, as well as releasing a string of albums on Liberty and RCA beginning with his debut …And Then I Wrote in 1962. In 1973, he signed to Atlantic Records and put out Shotgun Willie, which veered into outlaw country, a stark contrast from the mainstream Nashville sound and clean-cut country artists of the era. 1975’s Red Headed Stranger and 1978’s Stardust followed on Columbia Records, both garnering commercial and critical success. The ‘80s saw the release of No. 1 albums Honeysuckle Rose, Somewhere Over The Rainbow, Always on My Mind, and The Promiseland, as well as Nelson joining Johnny Cash, Waylon Jennings, and Kris Kristofferson in the country supergroup The Highwaymen, touring and releasing three studio albums between 1985 and 1995. Nelson continues to release a new album almost every year and delight ticket buyers in live shows to this day.
I did not care for the opening act-Amos Lee. Willie was much better than I expected. I really liked the venue.
Let me start by saying I read the previous reviews saying he didn't sing or play and I'm here to tell those folks it's a shane they didn't see the show I attended. While slow to make his way to the stage (what do you expect from a 90+ year old gentleman), once he took his seat it was all business. I am still amazed at how well he played that dang guitar. He must have very strong hands! He did many, many of his hits, of course he remembered all the words and yes he sang!!! He travels with a very small band but they were all he needed to deliver a fantastic evening of songs including his son Micah. I'm so happy we went, the man is a national treasure and an American icon. If you get a chance to see him, go. You will only be disappointed if you miss him. I don't know how he's able to do this night after night but I'm so glad he came to my state. He sang several of my favorites and a couple that I downloaded and have added to my list, especially Angel flying to close to the ground. What a lovely song that one was when he sang it live. Willie, thank you for giving us such an amazing experience. It was worth the drive from Jacksonville to St. Augustine. You've still got it. Take it easy, safe travels and thank you, you are always on our minds!
i wish it was more about willie nelson performing than it was his son but still a good concert.
Great concert. I don’t soke pot but I definitely felt high
Only song missing was Crazy. Great job Willlie u are a legend.
Willie, his son & band were fabulous. An hour long performance was a little short and opening act would have fit a more intimate venue. Enjoyed the venue and show but attendees in our upper deck were loud, disrespectful and smoking pot. Would definitely sit up closer next time.
The venue is amazing and so was the show! We stayed nearby and walked to the amphitheatre and then got a pedicab back to the hotel. Expect to pay a pretty penny for drinks etc but not more than usual.
Seats were great People in our row was fun company The staff was very nice annnnnnnnd Willie Nelson put on a GREAT concert as expected
Willie comes out on the stage, sits, and sings for 1.5 hours straight. His voice is as good as it has ever been. No flashing lights, fireworks, or videos, just him, his son, another guitar player, a harmonica player, a stand-up bass, and a drummer. Easy to hear, great sound, so glad I got to see him!
Just wish st aug would have let him play at least till 11:00.......but I'm glad that the man at 90 is still going..... enjoyed every minute........
Willie Nelson was so good. It’s hard to believe he is 90. Sang some of my favorites!! The only down side was that I was not very impressed with his opening act.
Willie was great! His ‘family’ added to make it a memorable and exceptionally enjoyable concert. My first time at this venue … was impressed. Wish I could do it all over again!
I love Willie for the man he is nut would like to hear more of his music. I know he's 90 but we want more of his great hits.
We loved the Willie Nelson concert. His concert did not actually start until 9- there was a lead up singer for an hour and then the stage was worked on for another 30 minutes. However once Willie and his band came onstage they were fantastic. He sang old songs and some we didn’t know but it was nonstop for the time he was on stage. We were glad we got to see him again.
The concert was great. Glad we went. Parking arrangements sucks. Need more busses for the masses of people for this concert
Enjoyed listening to him sing. The venue was very nice.
Concert was very good, however, it would have been nice to have it cast on big screens for people sitting up in top tiers of amphitheatre. The lighting they used did not help with being able to see the performers on stage.
Outstanding! Everything I hoped for and more! Willie and family are 100% on point. Worth every penny and every minute of my time!
We saw celebrated singer-songwriter and national treasure, Willie Nelson, at the St Augustine Amphitheatre on February 14 - Valentine's Day. Willie enthralled fans with his melodious voice and masterful guitar skills even at the age of 90. His timeless tunes are proof of his undeniable talent that gets better with time. So many great songs. On the Road Again, Crazy, Georgia, Still Ain't Dead Yet and many many more. It will go down in our record book as one of the "best"concerts we have attended. So Happy we got to see him "live"!!
I was super excited to get tickets to see Willie and he did not disappoint. He gave a great performance and I was so impressed at his skill and how much he played. I honestly expected a lot of talking and just a few songs but he walked out, sat down and just stared playing and played almost continuously for the next hour. He was energetic and just downright impressive. He engaged the crowd and everyone had a blast.
