About

Washington Huskies Football at Husky Stadium

Seattle has a long tradition of excellent college football, and the University of Washington Huskies continue the tradition to this day. The Huskies have won 17 conference championships and seven Rose Bowls, and they claim two national championships, in 1960 and 1991. Washington plays at Alaska Airlines Field at Husky Stadium, which opened in 1920 and seats 70,083. They are coached by Kalen DeBoer, who led the Huskies to an 11-2 record and an Alamo Bowl win in his first season.

Washington Huskies Football History

The University of Washington Huskies first took to the field in 1889 and have had consistent success since. Gil Dobie led the Huskies during an unprecedented period of success in the early 1900s, leaving with a 58-0-3 record in 1916 as part of a 64-game unbeaten streak and a 40-game winning streak. Washington joined the Pacific Coast Conference in 1916, and helped to found what was then known as the Athletic Association of Western Universities in 1959, which over the years grew into the modern Pac-12 Conference. In 1991, coach Don James, along with quarterback Billie Joe Hobert, offensive tackle Lincoln Kennedy and defensive tackle Steve Emtman, led the Huskies to an undefeated season, culminating in a Rose Bowl victory over the Michigan Wolverines, and a share of the national title with Miami. Many legendary players have suited up for the Huskies, including Warren Moon, who led Washington to a Rose Bowl victory in 1978, and fellow Pro Football Hall of Famers Hugh McElhenny and Arnie Weinmeister.

While the Huskies have many rivals in the Pac-12 Conference, none are more important than the Washington State Cougars, who they face annually in the Apple Cup. With roots dating back to 1900, the Apple Cup is the traditional final regular-season game for both teams, and in recent years had conference championship implications. In 2018, No. 16 Washington upset No. 8 Washington State 28-15 for their sixth straight Apple Cup victory, and their ninth in 10 years.

Went to the UW vs Eastern game in the Husky stadium. First time there since the rebuild and what a wonderful stadium and setting. The ambiance was super!. Even though our seats were high up the view was terrific.

    Hot and boring

by Pupkis on 9/10/14Husky Stadium - Seattle

Well, seems like American football is not my thing. I am a first generation immigrant from Russia and I did not grow up with this sports. I desided to check it out, because watching Superball on TV was fun. No offense to the fans, but the game was too slow, 10 seconds action and 10 minutes of walking-talking, etc. We were sitting at the touchdown terrace - what a terrible set of seats. We were baked under the blazing sunshine....

Great game, transportation issues on exiting the game. If Metro will not step up and provide buses, then move the game back to Saturdays!

    Apple cup was awesome!

by Shockwavephysics on 12/2/13Husky Stadium - Seattle

Husky stadium is a great venue. Crowd control was excellent, and finind my seat was quick and easy for the size of crowd. The game was close and either team could have won during the first three quarters. Exciting!

    scoreboards

by busfan on 10/29/13Husky Stadium - Seattle

We sat at the 30 yard line on the visitor's side in row 2. The jumbotron was to our right. It is impossible to see the bottom of the screen because the bleachers in the end zone block it. Regarding the 2 screens at the other end of the field: There needs to be a second screen somewhere that shows the stats. It was annoying to see that screen switch between the right and left sides.

Bad game , terrible time of day , poor seats

by Judgerichard on 10/29/13Husky Stadium - Seattle

I had previously been to Sat. Husky games and really enjoyed them . The walk through the campus in the Autumn , the beautiful view from the stadium , the great crowds : all great . I decided to share this experience with my son and his future father in law and got the tickets . I only realized that they were going to put it on at 8:00 PM to accommodate some TV schedule a week ahead ( yes , that's my fault for not knowing ) . Though it was a beautiful day and a great drive down from Vancouver , the campus was dark and we could see nothing from the stadium . The seats were unbelievably high up (row 64 in sec 329 ) . I was exhausted getting up the stairs ( I am 66 and not in great shape ) . To top it off the game was a boring blowout and even though Washington won the crowd was subdued . All in all a big disappointment of a game . We left after the 3rd quarter , as did about 1/2 the crowd .

World Class Stadium? No Hot drinks, wow

by ColdBob on 10/1/13Husky Stadium - Seattle

Unbelievable for the price paid. Football is a winter sport, thus a venue should never run out of hot drinks, Mistake on the part of the Food & Beverage manager???????

    Husky stadium rocks

by Tommytime on 10/1/13Husky Stadium - Seattle

The remodeled Husky Stadium is awesome. Now that the track is gone, fans are right on top of the action & the place is electric. The new big screen, the acoustics, the stats board, leg room - all great upgrades. What is really new is that if you sit in the first half-dozen rows on the 100 level, you can actually see the game. In the old stadium, the lowers seats were a frustrating exercise in trying to catch a glimpse over helmets, heads, and TV equipment. But you'd better be ready to stand - the fans down below are rabid, on-their-feet Dawg fanatics. My buddy Pete and I sat on the north side and really enjoyed the access to players and watching the interactions on the sideline. True, it was difficult picking up action at the far end of the field if veered toward the Husky sideline, but the jumbo screen (which features live action and a generous number of replays) will help you there. The only reason I didn't give this venue 5 stars is ticket prices and parking have taken quite the leap. Not sure I can afford to go anymore this season.
