About Rock the River

There's no better way to spend a hot, sticky August afternoon and evening than at the lush grounds of Saskatoon's Delta Bessborough Gardens for some killer classic rock. One of Saskatchewan's biggest summer music festivals, Rock the River debuted to a sold-out crowd on the waterfront lawn of the plush Delta Bessborough Hotel in 2014, and continues to bring in rock fans of all ages every summer. Presented by Rock 102 FM, the three-day event occurs each year in mid-August and offers a lineup of bands with the type of hits that will bring on some serious nostalgia, especially for lovers of 1970s and ‘80s rock.

This is a rare chance to hear beloved tunes like Loverboy's "Working for the Weekend," Quiet Riot's "Cum on Feel the Noize," Men Without Hat's "The Safety Dance," and Blue Oyster Cult's "(Don't Fear) The Reaper." Other Rock the River performers have included The Romantics, Pat Travers, Colin James, Nazareth, Platinum Blonde, Little River Band, Chilliwack, Kim Mitchell, Trooper, Sweet, Streetheart and Honeymoon Suite, Toronto, Nick Gilder and Sweeney Todd, Mark Farner of Grand Funk Railroad, and more. All performances happen on one stage, meaning you can see every band on the lineup if you desire. Aside from the music, there will be plenty of good food and drinks available to keep you satiated from early Friday evening to late Sunday night.

The festival's central downtown location is ideal for anyone making a full trip to Saskatoon for the weekend. It's even possible to book a room right at the Delta Bessborough Hotel for easy access to each day's events. You can purchase a single day pass or devote the whole weekend to rocking out with a three-day pass. Every year, both sell out quickly, so be sure to nab tickets for the upcoming Rock the River festival as soon as you can.

Good but could be even better

    by Mel on 8/25/23

Please have bathrooms available on both sides. And please have more portable ticket distributors, or have a tap option to get drinks directly. Thanks

    Too crowded!

    by T.Anderson on 8/25/23

Excellent venue! Great music! Way too crowded with the extra 500 tickets sold; caused tension between attendees. Disappointed Myles was not there with April Wine but Brian, Richard, Roy, & Marc sounded great and gave the crowd a great show! Much thanks to all the bands for another great weekend - love to all of you for still rocking it.

    Not so organized

    by Kmac on 8/24/23

I've been to several events at this venue and it seemed poorly organized this time around. There were big lineups for tickets, then drinks and only one set of washrooms. I really wanted to see Gowan and he was worth every penny, I'm not sure I would have spent much to see any of the other acts.

Too much $ and Not enough talent

by Sasky 80s Fan on 8/23/23

$9 great western beers and $12 for a smokie on a bun or basic hamburger is crazy, a total cash grab. Keep it reasonble! If your going to charge those prices, then the talent needs to improve significantly. Men without Hats had to play 3 versions of the same song just to fill their set list, and Carol Pope and Flock of Seagulls generally appeared disinterested in being in Saskatoon... it seemed like they were just there to do the set and get outta there. Gowan was amazing, he's every bit worth $9 beers and $12 food items. Amazing talent and engaging set list. I'm really not into Gowan's music, but bravo on the performance! That needs to be the standard for the artists at that fine venue... if they can't (or won't) engage like Gowan does, then it's really not worth the cost of going there and paying premium prices. My 2 cents...

Great music for the 80”s rockers at heart.

    by Fred on 8/23/23

1st time at Rock the River weekend. Venue and atmosphere was good. Friday night bar set up with all food & drink tickets lines a mess. Improved Saturday with separate lines. Music line and sound was great. Will plan to attend next year.

    Fabulous experience!!

    by Tannis on 8/23/23

My dad came in from Winnipeg to visit me for Rock the River and we had an epic time! The sound was crystal clear and with the perfect volume, and the entire weekend was all around great vibes. The venue (The Bessborough Gardens) is so iconic and we're already planning for next year!

We had to sit on the grass hill

    by Chrystal on 8/22/23

The music was amazing. The only reason I gave a 4 star rating is because there was no place to set our lawn chairs. We had to sit down on the grass hill. It’s not very comfortable for a senior to sit for 6 hours.

    Poorly Organized

    by Sam on 8/21/23

Music was good, but not enough ticket booths, or alcohol tables, too big of lineups everywhere friday night , no bathrooms on the one side. it should be ticketless for alcohol sales and debit or credit card only at the alcohol table (no ticket booths)

    Good but could be better

    by RP on 8/21/23

Bands were awesome and sound was really good. Now the bad. Need more smaller booze tents around the place. And more people walking around selling singles and tickets. Lineups were the worst part. Especially Friday night. Need washrooms on both sides as well. If you didn’t drink you probably had a really good time lol.
