I was ready to enjoy a good show but The Prairie Home Companion Show with Chris Thile and the groups he invited and jammed with blew me away. He is so amazingly talented as a performer musician and songwriter. He is the full package. My highest recommendation as an artist
Highly recommend this show and hope they come back to San Diego next year. Chris Thile has brought an amazing musical experience to this show. All guest musicians were incredible! The comedy skits are still great, but the real highlight of the show is the music and the passion Chris has for it. Thoroughly enjoyed it!
Went with a friend and my daughter. We all loved the show so much! On the way home in the car tried to relive every moment. Could not think of a better way to spend an afternoon. Can't wait for the next one!!!
for lovers of blue grass and blues, this was amazing. So fun to "see" a radio show produced. Chris Thile is incredibly talented.
The denizens of Lake Wobegone have faded into history to be replaced by a rich mixture of contemporary folk and blues with a few breaks for some classic Keillor comedy sketches and new guest talent. No dips in energy from start to finish.
This was the most enjoyable event I have attended in ages. Chris Thile was incredible, all of the guests were amazing, and it was just such a great energy! Wonderful crowd and so much fun. I wish I could go each and every week...you could just feel how much they all enjoyed being together and making music. Restores my faith in entertainment!
We have been Chris Thile, Nickel Creek fans for a decade. It is our first time seeing him live. Especially nice to see him here in San Diego his home town with his childhood friends. It was a lovely afternoon of music. Prairie Home Companion is the perfect forum for this incredibly talented man.
Something for everyone; incredible diversity of music and other entertainment, superior performances, funny, transcendent, and joyful by turns; great experience!
The show was great! The musicians were all so talented and the humor was funny. The classical violin was breathtaking. But, one complaint, Chris made a shout-out to Pasadena being the home of USC football, but no mention of UCLA, who also plays home games at the Rose Bowl. Big time oversight in southern California crowd. (Also, parking was a bit challenging.)
This show was phenomenal. The most talented gathering of musicians doing their thing in pop, jazz, country, blues, and classical all on one bill, like a delicious potluck that takes you by surprise. More music and fewer sketches than the old PHC format (YASSS) but the wonderful acting cast was joined by Nick Offerman, who never disappoints. Chris Thile, God of the Mandolin, is my new Favorite Person In The Universe. He hosted the most incredibly joyful afternoon ever.
Garrison Keillor chose exactly the right person to take over the Prairie Home Companion. Simply watching Chris play his Mandolin with unimaginable joy was utterly life affirming. The range of guest singers were so so very good. It was hard to stay in your seat with Robert Finley (a treasure) and Fiona Apple. (If only we were encouraged to jump up and down with them!). I will definitely plan on seeing Chris Thiele the next time he comes to the LA area and I honestly preferred the Pasadena Auditorium to the Hollywood Bowl. It all felt so much more intimate and alive.
Chris and his crew did agreat job. All of the guest artists were super!
A feast of musical variety, creativity, and virtuosity.
Wonderfully entertaining, all performers were fantastic! Will attend any time Chris Thile is in the area!
It was a thrill to see live, the radio show we've listened to for years. Hubby and I both got a real charge hearing the music at the beginning. Highlights of the show were Hilary Hahn and Nick Offerman's song for his wife.
The performers were first class and had a variety of styles - never get bored. Wished that there were more skits.
the show was fantastic and all the performers were a pleasure to watch--great music and good humor--we would do it again!
This performance was enjoyable in every way: variety of music, comedy skits, audience patter, and watching the intricacies of moving around the stage. It was well worth the drive from Orange County. Would do it again!
The show was great! Everyone is so talented and funny. The one note I have for the venue is, if you are going to let people into the show half an hour late, please train your ushers to know the sections and seat numbers. It was very distracting getting asked what's my seat number numerous times by ushers, while the show was underway.
