Arizona Coyotes History

Before they were the Arizona Coyotes, this franchise — a founding member of the World Hockey Association — was originally based in Winnipeg, Manitoba, Canada, and began playing in 1972 as the Jets. The early team made headlines before the season even started after signing hockey star Bobby Hull from the Chicago Blackhawks. The Jets went on to be one of the best teams in the league, winning three titles from 1976 to 1979.

The WHA merged with the NHL before the 1979-1980 season, but the Jets were unable to maintain their dominance and the franchise was relocated to Arizona before the 1996-1997 season; they became known as the Phoenix Coyotes. The Coyotes subsequently qualified for the postseason in each of their first four seasons and hockey legend Wayne Gretzky became a minority owner of the team in 2000 and their head coach in 2005.

After filing bankruptcy in 2009, the team was later purchased by the NHL. Despite the tumultuous seasons, the Coyotes won 50 games during the 2009-2010 season. In the 2011-2012 season, they won their first division title in franchise history. In 2013, the NHL sold the team and its name was changed to the Arizona Coyotes in 2014. Since 1997, the Coyotes have made it to the playoffs a total of nine times.

    Obstructed View

by Rob on 10/10/23Tucson Arena - Tucson

TCC has some sort of railing that obstructed the view for half the rink. This was literally in the first row right by the visitor's bench. Ironically, the opposite side of the rink did not have this railing visible.

    A Great Exciting Game.

by Flash on 10/5/23Acrisure Arena at Greater Palm Springs - Palm Desert

I saw a Pre-Season game between the Ducks and Coyotes. Paid for parking in advance which made it very easy to enter the arena. The arena is brand new and well designed with excellent acoustics and controlled temperature. From warmups through to the end of the game the scoreboard, music, mascots etc. made it so much fun just to be there. The game was a thrilling one with 2 goals being scored in the last minute to tie and then result in a win for the visiting team from Anaheim. The restaurant and snack bars were very good with items being reasonably priced. I only have 2 suggestions for improvement: 1. Do something about the souvenir/gift shop. It is too small as there was a long line just to get in the door. Either add a second souvenir/gift shop or increase the size of the existing one. 2. Do something about the parking lot. It was very difficult to leave the arena due to traffic congestion in the parking lot. Adding more exits are sorely needed.

Very exciting Ducks - Coyote preseason game!

by Maggie on 10/4/23Acrisure Arena at Greater Palm Springs - Palm Desert

This was the first time I have been to Acrisure Arena. Such a pleasant experience. Easy to get in and out. A friend had trouble pulling her ticket up in her phone. We went to will call and the Gentleman that waited on us was SO patient. He helped her put the ticket on her screen so we could enter. We were in section 119 row G seats 10 and 11. If you can commend him on helping us, he was wonderful.

So glad it's finally hockey season

by BJL on 10/4/23Acrisure Arena at Greater Palm Springs - Palm Desert

Acrisure is such a great venue! Every seat has a great view and food and drink choices are great (a little expensive but what isn't?) The game was great! Coyotes had the lead right up until the very end then the Ducks scored twice in less than a minute and ended up winning! I didn't really care who won - I just appreciated the skill and the game itself.

    Amazing time!

    by I. C. on 7/9/23

I had an amazing time with the Arizona Coyotes! Especially when I was 5 weeks old at Footprint Center and at Desert Diamond Arena when I was 6, 7 and 14-20 years old!

    Great fan appreciation night!

by Paul 638 Fitter on 4/19/23Mullett Arena - Tempe

The giveaways-the Shane Doan desert t shirt & the yearbook-are top notch! Add to that the email I received for $25 off 2 entrees at The Keg & that made my ticket basically free! It’s a beautiful arena that is shared with ASU & I look forward to volunteering with TEMPE WINS on April 22nd to help get the vote to have a new home for the future of the Coyotes! I would not have been aware of this event if I had not attended this game! Thank you Coyotes!!!!

Had a fantastic time. Great atmosphere. NHL game with a college feel.

    Pretty good

by JB on 4/16/23Mullett Arena - Tempe

Had fun at The Mullett. Arena was nice, parking was pretty slick. Could use more outdoor activities before the game. The prices are still out of whack, for a bad team in a college arena. Would go again, but wouldn’t pay full price.

    Awesome seats

    by J. M. on 4/4/23Mullett Arena - Tempe

Great seats. Cute little old arena. Warning. This arena has concrete benches at one whole end behind the net. Make sure you don’t accidentally pick them.

    Better than expected

by Hockey Fan on 3/30/23Mullett Arena - Tempe

I didn’t have great expectations going into the game. 5000 seat NHL arena!! It really wasn’t as bad as I thought. It was cool to be able to see the players so close up. Staff were great. Very friendly and helpful. Bag policy is dumb but in the whole grand scheme of things not a big deal. Hope they are able to build a new NHL arena for the games, but in the meantime I would definitely go back.

    Not bad

    by M on 3/29/23Mullett Arena - Tempe

The venue itself was good all thing’s considering. However. We had to wait for the chicken strips for at least 15 mins due to them running out prior to is ordering. Other then that. The staff and parking were great. Easy to navigate and friendly

    NHL HOCKEY AT MULLET ARENA

by Batman on 3/21/23Mullett Arena - Tempe

This is a fantastic opportunity to watch 2 NHL teams play in a 5000 seat arena. The energy and buzz in the arena is second to none, the players definitely feel the energy and there is not a bad seat in the house. The Coyotes put on a great show and once the new rink is built you will never have an opportunity to see and feel this again.

    Not impressed

by Izzy on 3/21/23Mullett Arena - Tempe

in general good hockey game. the reason it has a low score is due to the physical seats. they’re made for a very skinny person and or a child. I had to squeeze myself in there and have the arm rests dig into me the whole time. i would also avoid parking in the parking garage as after the game it took 45 minutes to even be able to pull out of the spot, let alone get out of the garage. overall if you like being smushed in a seat, being shoulder to shoulder with the people next to you and love waiting a long time to leave then this is for you!

    Awesome NHL

by be Wolfe on 3/20/23Mullett Arena - Tempe

I took the family to our first NHL game. I enjoyed the ice and the players of the game. Feel blessed to be able to have been present in Millet Arena. Go Penguins. Very clean atmosphere and I will always have the memories.

    Was below average

by Coacht on 3/17/23Mullett Arena - Tempe

There wasn’t clear messaging on the size of handbag allowed. Multiple people were turned away. My bag was small and was lower into Spring Training game in Scottsdale but nut Mullet Arena. Our seats were last row action 116. Great seats but people were assigned standing room stand up tickets directly behind. They cussed and swore and talked in our ear the whole game. An NHL team can do better than this! Brutal!

    Bad

by Jimmy on 3/12/23Mullett Arena - Tempe

We were told we were sitting in the wrong seats we knew we were but there were people sitting in ours the row was empty so we didn’t think it was a big deal, your security guy was rude I’ve been to 10 games this yea
