About

Broadway's musical comedy classic is the talk of the town! The New York Times raves, “ON THE TOWN takes your breath away." The Hollywood Reporter calls it "an explosion of pure joy," and The Wall Street Journal urges you to "see it as soon as you possibly can! ON THE TOWN is everything a great show should be!" With the biggest orchestra on Broadway and a 30-member cast of NYC’s most talented singers and dancers, ON THE TOWN tells the story of three sailors on a whirlwind tour of the city that never sleeps. With just 24 hours of shore leave, they’re eager to experience all that New York City has to offer… including a chance to discover love with the girl of their dreams.
Directed by Tony® winner JOHN RANDO (Urinetown, A Christmas Story) and choreographed by Emmy® winner JOSHUA BERGASSE ("Smash"), this big, brassy musical comedy features LEONARD BERNSTEIN’s “rapturous and red-blooded score” (Daily News), lyrics by COMDEN AND GREEN, and breathtaking dancing inspired by the original JEROME ROBBINS choreography. Playing at Broadway's beautifully restored Lyric Theatre, ON THE TOWN is "as fresh as first sunlight. ‘New York, New York’ feels closer to heaven” (The New York Times).

    REALLY?!?!

by ILUVTHTR on 8/28/15Lyric Theatre - New York

I hate to say this but this was an awful show. WAY, WAY TOO long and too, too much cheesy music and bad comedy. I loved this film so I know most of the music but the newly added songs did not add anything to the show. I also felt this was a huge waste of Copland's talent. Her talents did not meld in well with the show and would love to see her in something else on broadway,- just not this show .

This was a truly memorable performance - music and dance, especially the brilliant performance of Missy Copeland!

    See it

by BalletFamily on 8/28/15Lyric Theatre - New York

The show is terrific in every possible way--dancing, singing, acting, staging, choreography. I would see it again, except I'm afraid it's too good to be true.

On the Town, a good experience

by MCPF on 8/27/15Lyric Theatre - New York

It was my first experience on Broadway, so I enjoyed it very much. The actors are very good and the spectacle is very good; however, I don't consider it amazing.

    We Loved It!

by DrPhil579 on 8/24/15Lyric Theatre - New York

Great mixture of story line, singing, dancing, acting, etc.---the whole package. Performers all did an excellent job with their characters, and also did a marvelous job engaging with the audience. Sorry we missed Misty Copeland, but her stand-in put on a fine performance. Put this one on the must see list.

    ENTERTAINING

by JeffreyGL on 8/21/15Lyric Theatre - New York

Entertaining and a wonderful cast. Original material is a light plot, no characterization and only a few wonderful songs (even if they are Leonard Bernstein). Choreography is plodding and nothing compared to the original. Scenery is road company quality. Costumes are stylistically correct in garish colors. Sound system blurs words to songs, many of which are novelty numbers where lyrics are important. Orchestra is full an marvelous. Gimmick of having actors walk through audience is hackneyed and to no purpose other than the opening.

    Wow!

by ElegantWine on 8/19/15Lyric Theatre - New York

It is my favorite musical, and I think the best, or at least the Leonard Bernstein musical score is the best ever written for Broadway. (Yes, better than his later West Side Story.)

    SAVE YOUR MONEY

by Wengs on 8/19/15Lyric Theatre - New York

My wife and I were very disappointed with this show. The story line and many scenes were disjointed. Often we wondered what a particular scene had to do with the rest of the show. The lyrics were not clearly sung like we experience in most other musicals. The dance scenes were good, but not with the electricity and energy we expected. In the end I wish we had saved our money for a different show. I don't see On The Town playing much longer. There were lots of empty seats.

    More like a pantomime

Though this would be brilliant however we were disappointed as it was more like a pantomime although the dancing was great so it was OK.

Boring musical revival. Dance numbers too numerous and too long. Music forgettable for the most part. Story silly.

    Just plain INFECTIOUS!

by mlinni on 8/16/15Lyric Theatre - New York

There's so much energy from the get-go that you can't stop the smile that spreads across your face! This is a lively, very slick production of a tough show. The characters are stylized but completely fleshed-out & the dancing is fabulous. Bernstein's music can sometimes be so orchestral that old-fashioned musical theatre fans aren't so thrilled with his shows (other than West Side Story, of course), but this production has the right pace & wonderful voices to make it all work. Loved it!
