MORRISSEY IN CONCERT:
Stop me if you think you've heard this one before: indie rock hero and consummate dandy Morrissey is back on tour, and fans can expect him to pull no punches as he continues his reign as music's favorite contrarian. With his outspoken vegetarianism, erudite literary references, and floral self-flagellation, Morrissey became one of pop culture's most notorious and influential figures in the '80s as frontman of beloved alt-rock band the Smiths, and three decades later he's lost none of his piss and vinegar. Whether he's treating audiences to Smiths classics like "This Charming Man," opining on solo favorites like "The Last of the Famous International Playboys," or debuting cuts from 2014's World Peace Is None of Your Business, Morrissey is sure to dazzle with his legendary showmanship and politically-charged sets.
BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
British-born Steven Patrick Morrissey was an avid consumer of pop and punk from an early age, performing in several Manchester-based bands before forming the Smiths with guitarist Johnny Marr in 1982. After building a considerable following with early singles like "What Difference Does It Make?"Â and "This Charming Man," the Smiths released their self-titled 1984 debut LP to a No. 2 spot on the UK Albums Chart. Three more seminal albums would follow, including 1986's The Queen Is Dead, named the "Greatest Album of All Time" in 2013 by NME. Following the dissolution of the Smiths in 1987, Morrissey made his solo debut with 1988's Viva Hate, topping the UK Albums Chart on the strength of hits like "Suedehead" and "Everyday Is Like Sunday." Over the course of nine more studio albums, Morrissey continued to build on the legacy he began with the Smiths, setting expectations high for the 2014 release of World Peace is None of Your Business, his first new album since 2009's Years of Refusal.
FANS WHO BOUGHT TICKETS SAY:
"Morrissey! Those fortunate enough to attend this show were definitely treated to a phenomenal performance! Moz was strong, playful and humble."
"Great show put on by Morrissey. Great set of fan favorites. Interaction with crowd was nice as well."
"Mad respect for Morrissey - he sounds amazing live... His interaction with the crowd was great, it was my first time and I fell in love with him even more."
Awesome show from a legendary British crooner. Morrissey still has a beautiful voice and delivers an impassioned performance.
Flew from CA to NYC to see this concert and it was amazing! Vocals were awesome and overall an epic show. So happy I was finally able to see Morrissey live. Thank you!
My first time seeing the legend and I couldn’t have been happier. He is in peak form and now my heart is full. If I get the chance to see him again I absolutely will. Also, The Anthem is a great venue although traffic and parking in the area aren’t the most convenient. 10/10 highly recommended.
My first Morrissey show. Doors at 6:30, show at 7:30. I was pretty excited to get up front General Admission so got in line before 6:30. Between 7:30 and 8:30 nothing happened. Then a bunch of somewhat distorted video clips. Morrissey finally came on at 8:40. I’d been standing for over 2 hours by then, it was packed and although the show was good enough it was hard to be happy in the moment in this giant venue with a fairly disengaged performer who had made us wait an extra hour.
My first Morrissey concert was in 1991. His music defined my teenage years. Now that I’m 49 years old I have to say that this guy does not care about his fans. Heat a terrible person and I think we need to separate the man from the music.
I don’t even know what to say, because I do not want to blaspheme Morrissey in any way, shape or form. That said, he is perhaps the greatest solo entertainer in the history of the musical world.
His voice was in point. First time I see him and I was blown away. The band that plays with him is extremely good too. I loved even the songs I had never heard before. Moz is not just an artist, he is a pro.
Wow! Saw Moz in Atlanta with my daughter and was blown away at how great he sounds live! I’ve been listening to Moz and the Smiths for years and it was epic to see him killing it and for my daughter to experience it! Can’t wait until he’s back in the US! Don’t miss this show!!
I started listening to the Smiths and Morrissey in the mid 1990's. 1st time I saw Morrissey perform was on Orlando FL, years ago. I drove up from Durham NC to see Morrissey perform at the Anthem tonight here in Washington DC and I already have my flight, hotel and tickets for Thailand on November 18th. Oh, I just turned 61 years old. Kewl Right 😎!
I saw Morrissey back in 91 at the LA Forum when David Bowie joined him on stage. This show at The Fox Atlanta was so spectacular! His voice sounded perfect, and he did so many Smiths songs!! I just about died when he sang Half a Person, a very deep cut Smiths song. I was just a little disappointed it ended kind of abruptly because the fans up front kept getting on the stage with him. Other than that, it was so good! I would love to catch him again in another venue!
I’ve listened to Moz for over 30 rears now and saw him perform on two other occasions. He was outstanding and I like how he shows appreciation to his fans. There is no one out there touring and making music today that is better than SPM. Love him!
He sounded really good, and his band was very impressive! Great show!
I was so blown away by how amazing this performance was and he is so much better live than recorded!!!! Still coming down from how good of a show this was
Went to see him in New Jersey past December Had 3 set in tristate area, Brooklyn then philly Saw him in Philadelphia also Looking back should’ve done the trifecta. Anyway shows were fantastic Hope he does a residency in Vegas, I am there!!!!!!!!
I have been listening to Morrissey and the smiths since I was in 8th grade, now I’m 24 and having had the chance to see him live was a dream come true. I may not have been around when he first broke out, but each and every song brought back the best memories of over a decade ago when the “cool” uncles introduced me to “real” music. Thank you for reading this if you have
Always a pleasure to be entertained by Morrissey. The life long evolution of this artist is brilliant as years burn to era. Morrissey’s authenticity from album to album isn’t pandering pop or pastoral, it’s a razor of honesty that cuts some and speaks profoundly. The band is always truly spectacular. Don’t miss his shows.
Would've been a five star show, however the show started late and then it ended early. Upside, the overall atmosphere was great!! Being in a place where everyone knows the songs and lyrics was the best experience in a long time. Super friendly fans and all staff did a wonderful job. I just feel that maybe adding a few more restrooms would be nice.
First time seeing a concert at MGM Music Hall at Fenway. Was disappointed with the seating, couldn’t see. Concert was very short. Probably because Morrissey’s songs are so short. I hardly heard any of my favorites.
The show was great. The new venue was easy in and to get out. Nice easy access to bar's in each section. Disappointed that the seat's were just as tight as any old theatre.
Another stellar night! Been a fan since the 80's, gets better and better!
