    THE KING AND I

by Papasotarin on 1/6/15Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire - Lincolnshire

Darn you anyway! You are forcing my hand. I had decided that I simply had too much to do this week, and couldn't possibly send you a fan letter: this email came, and must take some time to tell you... HOW FABULOUS your production was! My husband and I took our grandaughters, aged 15 and 12 last Sunday afternoon. We have taken them to many MT productions through the years, just as week took our sons, so long ago. (INTO THE WOODS, l996?) I don't know where to begin. The actors in the lead roles were superlative----and I have seen Yul and Gertie! As a matter of fact, the actors in the secondary roles were superlative, too. The voices----there were so many standouts that I would end up listing them all. Tuptim, Lady Thang, Louis Leonowens, Lun Tha, Lady Thiang. See? To tell you the truth, I cried so many times that I wore out my handkerchief. Someone recently explained to me what "production values" means. Well. Your production was a visual aid for good ones. The imaginative use of the theater itself, and then those wood carvings all along the border---the costumes (even though Anna' plaid dress gave me a moment of dizziness!). Thank you for such a wonderful new year treat. It was sublime. Sincerely, Alicia Resnick

    What a GREAT experience

by Tjhsr on 1/6/15Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire - Lincolnshire

This was a very enjoyable evening - the performance was truly a beautiful experience. The voices, the music, the performers, everything was very well done. I wish I would have see it earlier in it's run so I could have had time to enjoy seeing it a second time. The Marriott Theatre is beautiful, clean, classy - it was very easy getting into and out of from a traffic stand point - I picked up our tickets in a very short line and the rest of the evening as they say - is one beautiful memory. I highly recommend this and probably any performance at the Marriott.

    ABSOLUTELY AMAZING!

by Karenplus3 on 1/6/15Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire - Lincolnshire

The King and I was absolutely amazing. The last time I saw this production it was in Chicago with Yul Brenner, and this actor was just as good. Every single person in the cast was just phenomenal. I wish I could see it again. I laughed, I cried - Thank you so much!

by Ecetera on 1/4/15Marriott Theatre in Lincolnshire - Lincolnshire

My family and I are avid fans of the theatre, local, NY and London. We were pleasantly and totally surprised by the wonderful performances of the cast of The King and I last Tuesday. Truly, I can say this was the best show I have seen at the Marriott Lincolnshire.

    Musical Theater Classic done well

by Lifelister on 12/29/14Drury Lane Theater Marriott - Lincolnshire

For fans of American musical theater, this Rogers and Hammerstein classic is packed with recognizable tunes, great costumes, and a plot line that opens discussion with your youngsters about other cultures. There is an artsy dance sequence portraying the story of "Uncle Tom's Cabin" but done in traditional Siamese costume and style that benefitted from some pre-play description. We took twin 8 year olds, male and female, after viewing the old Brynner/Kerr movie first so the kids were familiar with the music, and had a sense of the Siamese culture, and the disparity between that and the English culture of 1862, which is the plot of the play. Some interesting points evolved, also, about President Lincoln's push to free slaves. Kids did not mind the romantic scenes, were not too upset at the death scene, and really liked all the young actors. True to form, they came away whistling a happy tune. We sat on the first row so we were breathing on the actors. I recommend seats in section 2, and go up two rows so you're view is not blocked by bodies or props. There really are no bad seats in this theater in the round but the staging often had actors sitting down around the stage floor during a scene, which blocks your view if you are on the first row at stage level. Actors and props move frequently so you are not blocked for long but this can be avoided by sitting higher up.

One of the best we have seen there. Show feels a little dated and does not work too well in the round but casting was about perfect and of course that music! Enjoyed it very much.
