About

One of the most enduring shows of all time, JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT is the irresistible family musical about the trials and triumphs of Joseph, Israel's favorite son. The first collaboration of Andrew Lloyd Webber (Jesus Christ Superstar, Phantom of the Opera, Cats) and Tim Rice (Jesus Christ Superstar, The Lion King), JOSEPH blends pop, country and rock into an uplifting, technicolored story of biblical proportions. Retelling the Biblical story of Joseph, his eleven brothers and the coat of many colors, this magical musical is full of unforgettable songs including Those Canaan Days, Any Dream Will Do and Close Every Door. Broadway and television star Diana DeGarmo and Broadway star Ace Young will head up the cast of the new touring production of JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT.

    Underwhelmed

by Eroka on 3/30/14Cadillac Palace - Chicago

This production of Joseph looked more like community theater rather than a Broadway musical. The set was extremely plain and simple and the performances were overrated. I was so disappointed with the narrator's singing - at times it was painful the listen to. Both her and Joseph sounded very nasally. The saving grace of the show was seeing Joseph without a shirt on!

Joseph and the Amazing... was Amazing - and it was

by AdaBeta on 3/29/14Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Our daughter has seen the production twice with Donnie Osmond. She has seen it a total of 9 times. I think I have seen it 4-5 times in London, NY, Chicago. This opening is understated, very much unlike the original productions. I thought we would be disappointed. Instead, the second act accelerated our engagement with the story line and the words and well, there was an instant, unanimous standing ovation at the end of the play. Forget drop-dead backdrops. The characters - and the actors - took center stage. It was not something to be ignored.

    Very good and entertaining!

Good show that was well done. Would have to say that Ace really isn't a true Broadway singer but Diana was good...

    Joseph was disappointing

    by tmt12 on 3/29/14Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I could always count on a performance in Chicago to be worth the ticket price . . . until now. Joseph is one of my all time favorite musicals and I was looking forward to seeing it again, but I was very disappointed. First, I don't understand why they thought it needed to be updated . . . the original was awesome and needed no improvements. Second the sets and costumes were of a quality expected in community theater NOT a production in a major city. I didn't understand how the beginning imagery of trains and astronauts ,as well as fish swimming across costumes, added the to story. Last was the choice of Ace Young as Joseph. He looked the part, but did not have the acting ability or voice to carry a major production. The only reason I gave it 2 stars was Dianna DeGarmo did a nice job as the narrator and the supporting cast was good. I was more impressed with a production done at a community venue than this one!

    Joseph was not amazing

by Farnorthfriend on 3/29/14Cadillac Palace - Chicago

The two main characters-the narrator and Joseph-were ok singers. Several of the "brothers" seemed to be more talented as they could sing and dance. Joseph clearly could not dance. Most college shows would have been more entertaining.

boring leads, costumes, and sets-expensive ticket!

by Sunnygolf on 3/29/14Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Joseph's brothers were good, and that was about it... Ace had no charisma OR voice and his wife screeched-the story was quite lost with her narration. The production used curtains and computer technology rather than imaginative, colorful sets; and the costuming was boring and cheap, lots of halter & bra tops and actors baring their chests. The producers saved a lot of money on both counts. The worst part is that there were many families who spent a lot of money attending the performance as a special spring break event for their children. If the performance had even come close to the Donny Osmond production, just think of all of the children who could have become interested in theater.

    Not as expected

by FanOfJoseph on 3/29/14Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Disappointed in the choice of Diane & Ace as leads as their singing abilities did not match the songs' genres. The narrator's (Diane) pitch, a bit too high for the style of the songs. I have seen multiple productions of Joseph, both professional and amateur. I didn't expect the quality to be of the long-running Chicago production starring Donnie Osmond but Joseph (Ace) didn't exude the energy I was expecting. The quality of the projection/design of the scenery was excellent for a touring production.

    Great show!

    by msm50 on 3/29/14Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Great show...they changed it a bit from when we saw it years ago with Donny Osmond. I truly missed the opening song with the little kids singing. However, it was still a great performance by everyone!

    Disappointed.

by DAVinCHI on 3/29/14Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I saw the original sheet performance of Joseph on Broadway back when I was 13 and 1981. It was one of my favorites so I had high expectations and was very excited to see the show. The set design was cheap, the opening scene made no sense and was never tied back into the show. The direction was poor, choreography was basic...like I was watching a high school musical. They were wearing sneakers...in ancient Israel. Why? Ace and Diana were just OK - probably a combination of the bad direction and their own talent. I would have rather seen a no-name knock out. Saving the show were the performances by the brothers. Sorry to rain on the parade but I had hoped to relive my original experience with this show.

We saw the original production with Donny three times. This production was a gas. Though not quite up to the original cast, it was very enjoyable and well done. A very fast moving show. Fastest 120 minutes I've ever spent in a seat.
