About

One of the most enduring shows of all time, JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT is the irresistible family musical about the trials and triumphs of Joseph, Israel's favorite son. The first collaboration of Andrew Lloyd Webber (Jesus Christ Superstar, Phantom of the Opera, Cats) and Tim Rice (Jesus Christ Superstar, The Lion King), JOSEPH blends pop, country and rock into an uplifting, technicolored story of biblical proportions. Retelling the Biblical story of Joseph, his eleven brothers and the coat of many colors, this magical musical is full of unforgettable songs including Those Canaan Days, Any Dream Will Do and Close Every Door. Broadway and television star Diana DeGarmo and Broadway star Ace Young will head up the cast of the new touring production of JOSEPH AND THE AMAZING TECHNICOLOR DREAMCOAT.

Joseph and the amazing technicolor dream coat

Preferred the original adaption of the play. Thought the narrator was too often to difficult to understand. On the other hand this rendition of One more angel in heaven, and Those Canann days were EXCELLENT

A GREAT "modern" version of JOSEPH!

by overfiftyEaglesFan on 4/2/14Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Ace certainly isn't Donny Osmond, but does a respectable job carrying the lead - not as strong vocally, but the chorus makes up for it! Although lacking in scenery changes & physical props, the "technical scenery" is amazing and makes show move flawlessly from scene to scene. Enjoyed the show tremendously!

    Entertaining, but ...

by StageMngr on 4/2/14Cadillac Palace - Chicago

This touring show was very entertaining, but the sets and costumes left a lot to be desired. The producers and designers obviously made a choice to downplay the glitz that is so often expected for this show. However, I felt they went too far. I'm sorry to say it, but my first thought was "... looks like a high school production". The acting, singing, dancing and choreography were top notch... but I keep coming back to the sophomoric set and costume designs. We can't even chalk up the simplistic modular design to this being a "touring" show. I've seen plenty of touring shows come through Chicago where the sets were complex and appropriate for the work, but not "Joseph and the Amazing Technicolor Dreamcoat". I enjoyed the show. I appreciate the talent and skills given to us by the performers. The orchestra was outstanding and technically, I couldn't find any flaw. But, unfortunately, the design of the show disappointed me to the point I wouldn't recommend it to a friend or family member.

    Not Donny Osmond!

    by newjob6 on 4/2/14Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Music was awesome, and unforgettable. The cast of brothers made the show; but unfortunately, not thrilled with the perfomance by the lead "Joseph", nor was I impressed with the narrator's voice. In my opinion, she was too nasally.

    Enjoyable time but Pricey.

    by MVader71 on 4/2/14Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Show was a good time. Performances were good but not outstanding enough to justify the high ticket prices. The leads were adequate but nowhere near the strongest performances of the songs that I've seen and heard. Supporting cast was very good. Very good sets and production.

Joseph---I wish I had saved my money!

by Deterob on 4/2/14Cadillac Palace - Chicago

We went as a family to this musical that we have been listening to since our children were young. The amazing music of this show is obviously what draws people over and over. The two main characters MUST have very strong singing talent and we found that missing in the Chicago production which was a financially scaled down version of the original. What saved the show for us was the strong performance of the brothers and Jacob. We enjoyed the energy and the fun dish stomping scene. My thought is this. When a show isn't as strong, ticket prices should be less. I felt a little cheated spending $500 of our hard earned money on these tickets. If I am paying that much, I want to see a visual display worthy of my money.

    Amazing? YES!

If there is one thing I'll say about Joseph it is truly amazing! Different from Donny Osmond who performed years ago, but still truly amazing!

    Good event, mostly biblical

by Timjl on 4/1/14Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Overall I thought this was a good play to see. I was a little disappointed in certain parts "watering" down the biblical story. I didn't like Joseph being portrayed as the powerful savior instead of humble giving God the glory. It was a bit. Hard to understand some of the "speaking" parts. Overall, I would recommend this to others.

it wasn't Donny, but we were well entertained

by Lorstuff on 4/1/14Cadillac Palace - Chicago

We saw Donny in the original, so we knew that was not going to be topped Bottom line: We both enjoyed ourselves

High energy cast, a good news message, clever composition and the catchy runes make Joseph a feel-good event for all ages. Loved the fundraising in the lobby after the show for good, local causes too. Have fun and do good for the world at the same time - perfect afternoon.

Not nearly as good as "Joseph" from years ago with Donnie Osmond. My granddaughter enjoyed it, and those who had never seen it before enjoyed it. I missed the children performers. Ace's acting was good, voice a little weak. Diana very good strong voice. Not a great show, but we enjoyed the afternoon.

We saw the production several years ago at The Paramount in Cedar Rapids, Iowa and loved it. It was fun to see the changes and updates to this play. Our son is 20 and not at all the "theater" type - he's very athletic and plays college basketball. But he loved every second of this!

    Traditional show with modern additions!

by Anonymous on 4/1/14Cadillac Palace - Chicago

This is truly an all-time favorite of mine! In my mind, I anticipated the show being very similar to the original movie. However, they have adapted various parts to fit the more modern era, which I thought was fantastic! The use of projection and digital elements complimented the show well, and I really enjoyed the choreography change in "One More Angel In Heaven!" The cast was phenomenal, however the narrator and Joseph were a bit nasally. I prefer full voices, especially for this show. This was my reason for 4 stars, but I would still highly recommend the show! Overall, a very fun Broadway experience!

    Very entertaining

by JosephTime on 4/1/14Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Narrator could hit the notes, was very enjoyable. The brothers were AWESOME! Last time I saw this was in the 90s with Donny Osmond, and he (of course) can't be beat. Joseph's energy this time around was great; his voice stood up just fine. Entertaining & would recommend!

    Disappointing

by lawhks on 4/1/14Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I saw this musical in the days of Donny Osmond and this current version does not compare favorably in any way with the old one. The leads were underwhelming, the costumes were drab and uninspired, and most of the choreography was mechanical. They even changed the order of some songs, axed the children's choir and scaled the ending Remix WAY BACK! The one entertaining addition was the brothers' performance of "Those Canann Days," but that did not make the overall experience worthwhile. I took my 4 year-old daughter to this play and, while I know she did not know what she missed, I do.

    An Unfortunate Modern Adaptation

by JimHalz on 4/1/14Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Saw Joseph a number of years ago, which was amazing; Donny Osmond, Children's Choirs, an amazing pit, and huge sets...so I was extremely disappointed to find out the musical on stage now has been reinvented into a "modern" Joseph. Now, the show opens up in a city scape, the actors all wear high top sneakers throughout the entire performance and instead of a set there's a few curtains and a big projector. The show wasn't all bad and did include a few good moments, but overall I found it to be a disappointing adaptation from the original.
