About

John Petrucci on Tour

Legendary, metal behemoth and guitar virtuoso are all appropriate ways to describe the incredibly talented John Petrucci. Best known as the guitarist and founding member of Dream Theater and Liquid Tension Experiment, Petrucci also has had a successful solo career. Being a veteran of Joe Satriani's G3 tours, he is headlining his first solo tour in the fall 2022, making 16 stops across the United States and Canada. Petrucci will be accompanied by his band featuring Dave LaRue on bass and Mike Portnoy on drums, as well as the group Meanstreak for the duration of his tour. Petrucci's live performances combine face-melting riffs and world-renowned technical prowess on guitar, his ability to manipulate sound while reinventing progressive metal is a must-see. Petrucci first emerged onto the music scene as a founding member of Majesty in 1986 (later changing their name to Dream Theater in 1987). Dream Theater has produced a number of hit albums over their tenure, including When Dream and Day Unite (1989), Images and Words (1992), Awake (1994), A Change of Seasons (1995), Falling Into Infinity (1997), Metropolis Pt. 2: Scenes from a Memory (1999), Six Degrees of Inner Turbulence (2002), Train of Thought (2003), Octavarium (2005), Systematic Chaos (2007), Black Clouds & Silver Linings (2009), A Dramatic Turn of Events (2011), Dream Theater (2013), The Astonishing (2016), and Distance Over Time (2019). If that wasn't enough, Petrucci's other band Liquid Tension Experiment released Liquid Tension Experiment 1 (1998), Liquid Tension Experiment 2 (1999) and Liquid Tension Experiment 3 (2021), as well as his solo projects, Suspended Animation (2005) and Terminal Velocity (2020).

John Petrucci Live in Concert

Born in Kings Park, New Jersey, in 1967, Petrucci started playing guitar at 12 years old and was influenced by acts such as Steve Morse, Steve Vai, Rush, Iron Maiden, and Metallica. It was at Berklee College of Music in Boston where he met bassist John Myung and drummer Mike Portnoy to form the core of what would become Dream Theater. Petrucci and his bands have won countless accolades throughout their 30-plus years of performing, including the Best Metal Performance GRAMMY win for their 2021 song "The Alien," three GRAMMY nominations, numerous gold and platinum CD and DVD sales, the No. 1 position on Rolling Stone's Your Favorite Prog Rock Album Of All Time for Metropolis Pt. 2, International Band of the Year Award at the 2019 Progressive Music Awards in London, and many more. Petrucci has also been on the cover of Guitar World magazine twice, once in 2019 and once in 2021.

Everything I wanted it to be!

by Dream Theater on 11/19/22House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

The John Petrucci concert was amazing! Seeing him perform again with Mike Portnoy was everything that I hoped it would be. Along with Dave LaRue, they put on an unbelievable show. My 12 year old son was blown away! My only complaint was the cost of merchandise. $40 for a t-shirt is a bit extreme. Please don't outprice your fans!

    My “bucket list” dream concert

by Superbeast on 11/19/22House of Blues Cleveland - Cleveland

Loved the venue - very comfortable seats (I’m 6’4”). Love seeing JP without James Labrie making a racket and trying to sing.

    Long Overdue

    by Brett R on 11/17/22Summit - Denver

I had been waiting to see Pertrucci on his own for forever and it was everything I could have hoped for. Infact it was more that I could have imagined with the addition of Mike Portnoy. One of the best concerts I have ever been too. Thank you John for coming to Colorado.

    Awesome performance!

by JeffL on 11/15/22Pantages Theatre - Minneapolis

John is one of the best guitarists there is. I've seen him with his "other" band, and now its clear that he has everything to do with the production for any show he does. Sound is perfect, playing is precise. Not a note out of place. And to see him reunited with MP, they were clearly having a great time in addition to the great playing. Great show, glad I was able to attend.

    Unforgettable

by Tazzmaniac on 11/14/22Summit - Denver

The parking for the venue is a challenge since it's downtown but there are lots fairly close. The seats we had were fantastic and it was appreciated that this show had seating versus the GA free for all it usually has. Drinks were difficult on the first level, but easily accessed in the Balcony. Food was actually very good; I'm speaking of the pizza at the Marquis counter (even though they were outrageously slow). The show was delayed due to the bands schedule; they were in CA and got caught in weather delays the entire trip which is attributed to poor scheduling by their mgmt. Should have given them more time for travel and downtime between gigs specially since they were traveling to a location at altitude. Both bands put on a fantastic show. They did not disappoint in any way!! A night that you can't forget.

    Worth the wait!

by Threevan on 11/14/22Summit - Denver

Due to issues outside of the band or venues control, they were late. Summit Music Hall did an excellent job of managing the situation, and doing what was best for the band and the concert goers. We got to watch them setup all the gear and line check for two full bands worth of gear, which was pretty cool IMO! Once the show got underway, there were no issues from my standpoint. It sounded awesome and I really loved going for the balcony seats. Absolutely worth it to get an unobstructed view of the entire stage. As for John Petrucci, if you are a guitar player or love guitar driven music, he is a must see!
