Loved the show! The songs and dancing reminded me of the old days in New York city.
We really enjoyed In the Heights! The music, dancing, and acting was great! We would highly recommend this play. It was awesome!
The story line was good, however for being a musical the singing was very weak. Needed more life and presence. It would have made a tremendous difference if there were more powerful singers.
This is a very good, entertaining show with a lot of talented performers. I highly recommend it.
Best musical ever! Second time I've seen this show in the last 2 years. Loved every minute.
In The Heights was an uplifting, beautiful production that made me laugh and cry. Although I am Latina and therefore identified very easily to the story, people of all cultures will enjoy and appreciate the story. The musical score, the dancing, and the singing was phenomenal.
A musical that can keep to its roots but infuse hip hop both dance and vocals is quite entertaining. I love the score and the ethnicity it appreciates. The plot also kept me entertained as well. Very fresh fun and new. Loved it
Great performance from start till end. A little hiphop, alittle salsa, with a smooth comtemporay and ballet dance mix. Wanted to give a standing O after each song. Could not have had a better evening....shopping for the soundtrack now!
I found the story line to be good, and the music and dance were outstanding. Great energy in the show and some of the performers had very good voices and wonderful range. The review in the Chg. Tribune commented on how this show had non-union members performing in it, so what, the quality was excellent and the talented kids did a great job. Hey, these performers have to start somewhere.
The new Broadway is unbelievable. I will see this show every time it comes to Chicago
This performance was so high energy that my husband and I danced our way out of the theatre. We've been talking about what a great play it was for days.
We thoroughly enjoyed the amount of talent that was gathered onstage for this show. It was so good and if anyone gets the chance to go, you should!
I went and saw In the Heights two years ago when it was in Chicago and I was BLOWN AWAY!! This performance, not so much. It honestly felt like I was watching an invited dress. It lacked crispness, Usnavi fudged a lot of lyrics and the talent was that that you would find at a community theatre not a touring Broadway company. I gave it three stars (when it deserves two) and would recommend it based on the fact that it is HONESTLY a great show, brilliantly written! This performance just didn't quite reflect that. I hope it improves.
Very energetic. Loved the dancing and songs. It was also comical.
The play is very high energy and the young women I went with loved it. I did enjoy the play, but had a hard time hearing and understanding the song's lyrics, so felt I missed a lot. In my opinion, one of the characters didn't fit their role. But overall, it was an enjoyable trip to the theatre.
This production was excellent. I was surprised, however, very happy to see so many non-Hispanic people in the audience. They may have missed some of the story if they did not understand Spanish. This musical touched my heart. Even the men were crying. Loved it!
The choreography was FANTASTIC, and the music in this show runs from rap, Latin-beat, to sweet ballads. The rap songs were great, but you really have to listen to the lyrics, and this may be a challenge if the acoustics are the least bit "fuzzy" at your venue. Most of the actors on this tour were as good as you'd see on Broadway, aside from 2, who I thought were a bit weak. (Not naming names, no hate here) Special shout out to Benjamin Perez as the Dad, who had a gorgeous voice! Overall, really enjoyable show, appropriate for teens & adults. Only a few inappropriate lines, but I think younger kids would be bored, and may have trouble following the story.
I saw In the Heights on Broadway a few years ago and was thoroughly impressed and had to see it again, which is what brought me to seeing the touring cast in Chicago. The cast was a bit green, missing cues at times with delivery that was flat with no emotion, but I still enjoyed the music and the story. Keep in mind I am comparing to the Broadway cast that is held at a higher standard. I would still definitely recommend seeing this show regardless of the cast or location, just because it is a reflection of culture and a common theme of love. No matter what city you're in or what cultural background you have, this is a must see!
The show was incredible! The music and dancing were awesome and the set and actors were perfect. So glad we went!
Awesome show! I can't believe i waited so long to see it.
