About

After more than 30 years of a lifestyle that often required lots of time on the road, country legend George Strait has saddled up for what he says will be his final tour, a two-year outing dubbed The Cowboy Rides Away Tour.

More than 20 farewell concerts take place between January and May of 2014, and the shows -- many of which will feature a big-name special guest such as Jason Aldean, Eric Church, Martina McBride, or Sheryl Crow -- are proving to be hot tickets as fans celebrate the storied career of the country mainstay. He announced his retirement from the road during a September 2012 press conference in Nashville, and played more than 20 farewell shows during early 2013.

Strait doesn't plan to ride into the sunset -- he's just done with long tours. He recently renewed his deal with MCA Records, so he'll keep releasing new music and plans to also play select concert dates in the future. But grueling trips aboard the tour bus are in his rearview mirror.
After the Urban Cowboy ethos dominated country music in the late '70s, Strait emerged in the early '80s with his take on classic country stylings, and is often credited with paving the way for other neo-traditionalist superstars like Garth Brooks, Dwight Yoakam, and Randy Travis.
Strait's catalog includes timeless hits like "Amarillo by Morning," "All My Ex's Live in Texas," "Love Without End, Amen," and "I've Come to Expect it From You."

A 2006 inductee into the Country Music Hall of Fame, Strait's remarkable career has included a record 60 No. 1 songs on the country chart. He holds many other country sales records, including most No. 1 albums and most gold, platinum, and multi-platinum albums. Only Elvis Presley and The Beatles have more combined gold and platinum albums in their catalogs.

A native of Poteet, Texas, south of San Antonio, Strait grew up in neighboring Frio County. He first took up music in high school as a member of a rock garage band. After a stint in the Army, he  earned an Agriculture degree from Southwest Texas State University in San Marcos while playing in a bar band that performed around central and south Texas.

Strait signed with MCA Records in 1981, after Erv Woolsey, who ran one of the bars Strait's band played, urged Nashville talent scouts to check him out. Woolsey went on to become Strait's manager.

    Great concert-bad accoustics

by Straitjacket on 5/9/24Lucas Oil Stadium - Indianapolis

The George Strait concert at Lucas Oil was a fun time, however the acoustics there aren't good for concerts. I wonder if they opened the roof if it would have sounded better? Little Big Town was over the top fakey, I would have liked to have had less of them and more of George Strait at the end of the concert. Chris Stapleton's time on stage was perfect, too bad the acoustics interfered with hearing his voice more clearly. He and his group did a bang up job and brought down the house! George performed some of his classics, but not enough. I wish he would have performed more of the classics and less of his newer songs. Although his performance of Folsom Prison Blues was great! Overall it was a great time, but the cost of the tickets were too high for Little Big Town and only 1/3 of George's classic songs.

    Sound/price

Sound quality was not good at all. Echo and timing was off. Seats were way over priced.

    George Sraight

by Melissa on 5/9/24Lucas Oil Stadium - Indianapolis

Enjoyed George Sraight concert at Lucas Oil Staum. First time for me being inside the Staum. Special in both ways of having to experience seeing the Country music legion inside a beautiful place of the Indianapolis downtown area.

Great Concert. Wouldn't sit on the floor again.

by Joe on 5/9/24Lucas Oil Stadium - Indianapolis

It was an enjoyable concert hearing all 3 artists. We sat on the floor (row 38) and these chairs were so uncomfortable and so tight there was no room between patrons. It was told Lucas Oil rented the chairs from George Strait. The acoustics could have been improved as well. As much money as you paid for floor seats, the experience could have been better.

    AMAZING SHOW!

by JB on 5/9/24Lucas Oil Stadium - Indianapolis

George put on the show that we were all hoping for. With 60 Number One hits, there's no way to hear ALL of our favorites, but he sure hit a lot of them. Bringing Stapleton out was incredible. Just an overall fantastic show. King George is the GOAT.

    Amazing concert

by Tina on 5/9/24Lucas Oil Stadium - Indianapolis

It was by far the best concert I’ve been to, George Strait killed it like I knew he would, Chris Stapleton also did amazing, also Little Big Town, but for me personally, it was all about George …. The only complaint for me, was the seating on the floor, they had the chairs zipped tied together, and not enough room in between each row, would I do it all over again?, Hell yes I would, I love me some George Strait

It could have been 5 stars......

by JosieD on 5/8/24Lucas Oil Stadium - Indianapolis

I was in section 225 at Lucas Oil and had paid over $1000. for 2 tix. The sound at that level was so AWFUL, LOUD AND DISTORTED at times we couldn't even make out was song was being played. Otherwise, I knew I would have to rely on the big screens to see and had no problem with that. Performances were up to par! Tickets were ridiculously Expensive and only paid that because I won't ever get to see George Strait live again.

    Great show…..but

by mrsschoch on 5/8/24Lucas Oil Stadium - Indianapolis

All three of the artist were great. This is my issue however, Lucas Oil Stadium is a great place for football, concerts sound is horrible. I have seen several shows inside the stadium and every time I am hopeful that they will figure out the echo inside the stadium. You cannot hear or understand what they are singing or saying when speaking to the audience. For the love of Pete, figure this out!
