This guy is a genius . Smartest thing I have ever seen. Worth every cent and more!!
David cross always delivers. amazingly clever and funny, he can make a room explode with laughter when joking about topics which should make the audience question their own decency. If you like dark/morbid humor, David cross is likely for you.
This show is near therapeutic in our current times. David Cross continues his brand of sarcastic humor without pulling any punches. Those who know and appreciate his humor will continue to enjoy this latest set.
Enjoy David. Venue was pretty good. Show was fun, not his best, but solid.
Long time fan of David Cross, I see him every time he comes to this area. The first 1/2 of the show was brilliant. Classic David Cross. Unfortunately the second half devolved into Trump jokes and violent fantasies about what could happen to him during the next election cycle. Cross has always been political in his comedy, so it was expected. But I think most of us, right and left, are tired and bored of "Orange man bad" comedy. I can find enough of that online if I want to. All in all, still worth it for the first half of material. He hasn't lost his satirical sarcasm one bit!
I probably should have watched a couple videos before purchasing these tickets. I was expecting more life humor and story telling (don't ask me why) and it was too much political complaining.....a couple chuckles and not so bad that I wanted to leave, but not someone that I will patronize in the future.
David Cross strikes me as a deeply disappointed idealist, and this disappointed idealism is the source of his comedic point of view, his most brilliant comedic standup bits, and his acting style. Cross gave his fans in Durham a living example of his real-life disappointed idealism on Tuesday night when he stalled the start of his show because of six empty chairs in the front row--seats that he wanted filled before starting--seats that would ultimately never be filled. While he stalled, he tried out some lesser material that received a flat or even unenthusiastic response from the audience. This response to the empty seats had the unintended effect of deflating the audience's energy and sending Cross into what seemed to be a disappointed funk (or maybe he was already in one). Gradually he dug himself out of this hole to a medium level of energy, but neither the quality nor the energy of the show rose to Cross's level of brilliance. He seemed to be emotionally deflated and feeling the blues, and yet, to his credit, he fought his way through the material, finishing to the best of his ability. David Cross's finest comedy and acting comes from the perspective of a deeply disappointed idealist, and on Tuesday night, his Durham fans learned that his point of view is not a pose--that David Cross the person and David Cross the comedic writer/performer are one.
David Cross - live and I mean live! If you have ever seen David on TV in scripted roles - he is fantastic, but live - he took it to another level. Watch out for brutal comments about Donald Trump and Republicans, but still in good fun (or maybe not). David's perspectives on life as a new father were funny than hell, but his reality and the truth are miles apart - meaning - he was funny - but don't take him seriously - it's a dam stand up routine. You gotta go and see for yourself. Funny, man, Funny
He didn’t disappoint! And the venue was great - felt intimate and I think every seat had a good view.
Funny at times depending on your age group and expectations . ( like any other). He initially picked at audience ( for good reason ). He is a new dad so his perspective was funny( but not haha funny). Political jokes set aside , I think he missed a great opportunity to connect on a wider set of issues.
I’ll save you $35-50: the set started with some decent “dad humor,” but then stalls with a 15-minute bit on colonics that really never pays off. The apex of the set is a fantasy where Ron Pearlman beats up Donald Trump. If you’re hoping for the same level of comedy as “Shut Up, You F*****g Baby,” “It’s Not Funny,” or even “Bigger and Blackerer,” you’re going to be disappointed. Even with the current political climate, Cross hasn’t figured out how to extract any unique humor out of this administration, and his anecdotal bits don’t bite like they used to.
This is the third show I've seen in less than three years where the headliner spent a good part of his set talking about crap. Seriously? Has it come to this? If I was a fourth-grade boy, maybe I would have been more enthusiastic about the poop stories, or the fantasy sequence where David Cross acted out taking a dump on Donald Trump - but I'm pushing 50, and I just wasn't feeling it. David Sedaris and David Feherty also devoted way too much of their recent shows to dookie as well. Is it a thing with guys named David? I don't know. But I do know that I'm sick of paying money to hear people literally talk doo doo (<--changed from another word that Ticketmaster considers too vulgar to include in a review, but all of the Davids consider comedic gold). Cross started out his set talking about his young daughter. He said he wasn't going to be one of those new parents who spend way too much time talking about their kid - and then he went on to spend way too much time talking about his kid. Ugh! His entire act can be summed up in one word: "meh." This show wasn't bad. I didn't leave wishing I hadn't gone. I laughed once or twice and chuckled several times. I know that those hysterical, can't catch my breath because I'm laughing so hard, bits are elusive - but hope springs eternal. The Speaker Jo Ann Davidson Theatre is a great place to see a show if you aren't stuck in the middle of one of the long rows in the back where you have to get past at least 10 people it if you need to go to the restroom. Having been there before, I made sure I had an aisle seat up towards the front for this show. I didn't have to leave to use the restroom at any point during this show - and if I had, perhaps I should have made a video of it, posted it on Youtube and labeled it "cringe-worthy" comedy.
David exceeded all expectations and had me close to peeing myself. Please bring him back soon!
I have been waiting a long time to see Cross perform, and it was totally worth the wait. I've watched his Netflix specials and heard his comedy albums, and I'm just an all-around big fan. I can't wait to see David again!
I had never seen him do a stand up by himself and he was very funny and enjoyable.
Best comedy set I've seen from him in 15 years. Thoroughly enjoyed.
This is one of the best shows I’ve been to. Absolutely hysterical.
The first 2/3 of the show were great. We were laughing like crazy, the rest of the audience was also rolling in their seats. Then he went political for the rest of the show. It wasn't even really jjokes just venting. He would get obvious cheers and clapping from people with the Trump and Republican bashing, but the laughing was pretty much done. It is his pulpit and he certainly has a right to speak his mind. If youread the room you could see that people were getting bored as the show went on. You would think that he see that and maybe switch back to the comedy. He choose instead to just carry on with it. I wouldn't have minded if he did take a few minutes of the show and talked about these issues. I paid good money to be entertained an laugh my head off. I didn't pay for a polical rally.
I’ve seen David four times over the course of his standup career and this is one of my favorite performances. From the banter with the sign language person, his self-effacing talk of his baby, the San Fransico Gold Rush to his fantasy of ‘resuscitating’ Donald Trump... this show was as sharp and funny as the first.
