About

After being extended twice on Broadway, COLIN QUINN LONG STORY SHORT aired as an HBO Special in April 2011. Comically channeling the demise of great world empires, Colin Quinn uses his "articulate brand of comedy" in taking audiences through an uproarious history of the world in 75 minutes. From his personification of Caesar as the original Italian mobster to his complaints about Ancient Greece and Antigone giving way to Costco and Snooki, Quinn is at his satirical best, taking on the attitudes, appetites and bad habits that toppled the world's most powerful nations.

    Colin Quinn - Very Funny

by NumberOneDanFan on 9/5/11Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

I like the history of civilization theme and his criticism of every phase of our human development. Cynical sometimes biting commentary lead to many funny observations. Equal-opportunity insults of every major religion, nationality, ethnicity, and gender. Great conversational style with a lot of under-the-breadth sarcastic remarks you had to listen carefully to catch. Adult language used frequently but appropriately. Commentary on current values and societal demise were very funny! Overall, a really good show. I also liked the small theater - made it more intimate.

    We never learn ...

by Spicecakes on 9/4/11Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

Colin hits the nail on the head with humor and a question mark .... he brings it all together with a big bow - and illustrates how we humans rarely learn from history. Hilarious and thought provoking ....

    Great night out

by harrassedplanner on 9/2/11Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

If you're married to a fifty-ish, generally grumpy guy, who never wants to go anywhere, he will LOVE this. Very smart, very fast, very funny. You can readily see the Seinfeld influence even as Colin Quinn is formidably talented in his own right,. Excellent night out for someone who is usually impossible to please. Also recommend Francesca's on Chestnut for dinner before the show.

    Colin Quinn is vulgar

by BigGuy5 on 9/2/11Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

The venue was great but the dialog was filled with tons of vulagarity. If I knew he was going to use profanity in every sentence I would not have gone to see him

News Flash! Enjoyable and Intelligent Comedy!!!

by ChicagoShow4Me on 8/30/11Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

Finally an act that does not pander to the lowest common denominator or insult our intelligence by using excessively crude language for effect! Thank you Colin Quinn and Jerry Seinfeld! Thouroughly enjoyable and highly recommended!

    Quinn is Quick with Quips

by nytJim on 8/30/11Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

Enjoyed the show. It was funny and fast. Quinn can deliver a story in a reasonable way. His timing was fabulous and reminded me of his director - Jerry Seinfeld.

Recommend, but wish Colin would slow down

by LJCH62 on 8/30/11Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

I think Colin Quinn's observations are brillant, but his delivery leaves something to be desired. He speaks so quickly that the you get the impression he wants to rush through the show. Even if that's his just his normal style, it makes him slightly unlikeable, like he doesn't really want to be there. And that's unfortunate, because his show is very unique and funny. Too bad there's more than a few people in the audience asking "what did he say?" to the person next to them. Overall, though, I would recommend....

    Amusing

by KGable on 8/30/11Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

Long Story Short was terrific - - funny and insightful. My only criticism is that sometimes Colin spoke so fast I could not understand him. My husband had the same problem. Even so we both enjoyed the play very much. Great evening of entertainment.

Chuck didn't go - he sent his aging parents as a gift for their 50th wedding anniversary. We loved it and have been chuckling ever since! How can anybody be so clever! BRAVO!

    A Thought provoking Laugh!

by slitheatre on 8/30/11Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

The material was quite clever and I lauged with and at our humanity. I recommend it to friends who have a sense of history, especially since the allusions made the routine richer. I think the set and the music were not conducive to the material he presented. It was harsh music and a dark set.

Long Story Short was immediately forgettable

by QueenMotherMary on 8/30/11Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

Take out the expletives and you would would have had, maybe, 60 minutes of material! Overpaid for a farce!

    Very clever

by ReaganJ on 8/29/11Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

Very clever the way the "long" history of the world was told in a relatively "short" time (75 minutes) with LOTS of humor. Seinfield fans will ESPECIALLY APPRECIATE the show! My only complaint was that it was a little hard to hear at times.

Long Story Short was short on laughs.

by Cornet54 on 8/29/11Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

Though the concept was very clever, the entire show failed to deliver consistent laughs. Also, Colin Quinn had a tendency to mumble some punch lines despite being miked.
