Carolina Hurricanes History

The Carolina Hurricanes were established in Raleigh in 1997 after relocating from Hartford, Connecticut, where the National Hockey League franchise was originally founded in 1979. Since their arrival in North Carolina, the Hurricanes have made the playoffs ten times, captured six division championships, two Eastern Conference titles and the 2006 Stanley Cup Championship.

The team also hosted the 2004 NHL Draft and the 2011 NHL All-Star Game at PNC Arena, where they play their home games. When the Hurricanes made the playoffs in 2001, against the defending Stanley Cup Champions New Jersey Devils, they lost the series but came back from a 3-0 deficit to force a sixth game — marking what many believed to be the start of real hockey in the Research Triangle.

The 2005-2006 season marked the best in the Hurricanes' history, as the team finished with 112 points, beating the previous franchise-best record of 94 points. They ended up beating the Edmonton Oilers in the Stanley Cup Final, marking the first time in NHL history that two former World Hockey Association teams faced off in the Final.

    Always a great time!

by Barb on 9/29/23PNC Arena - Raleigh

We love our Canes! They always acknowledge their fans and put on a great show, as do Stormy and all the announcers. The recognition of so many great individuals (veterans, Governor Morehead student attendees, siren sounders, etc.) really shines a spotlight on our community. The time out amusements are so much fun, and the roving cameras capture some interesting scenes too. Canes fans are the best and they make the total game experience 100%. Wonderful, clean, safe facility, great seats, easy access to food and drink, plenty of helpful staff to assist with whatever you need, the list goes on....It's always a great time at a Carolina Hurricanes game!

    by MrFzekiller on 6/28/23

Great atmosphere, Great team, But some questionable parking choices. Overall going to a Canes game is a great experience and I highly recommend it but make sure to get there early so you can get good parking spots cause they get taken up fast

Canes games at PNC are FANtastic

    by Erikson17 on 6/13/23PNC Arena - Raleigh

We always have a blast at these games with the family. From interaction with staff and other fellow caniacs to the fun things to do while walking around between periods to eat or shop or a quick visit with friends who are also at the game and the facility and the outside parking lot pregame excitment, we just love all of it and have an enjoyable fun time every single time

    no hot water

    by D. J. on 5/12/23PNC Arena - Raleigh

PNC shuts off the hot water for every hockey game. Don't we pay enough to get hot water? PNC grade "F"

    LOVE THE GAMES

    by CanesFan2023 on 4/24/23

Love going to PNC to see the Canes play however I do agree with what several others have said regarding width of seats. These days most people need the 'plus size' seating (me included so I am not fat-shaming at all!) and I think the arena could afford to change the chairs. Otherwise the vendors are great, restrooms are clean, arena staff are helpful and and parking is efficient.

    Fun outing

    by L. H. on 3/29/23PNC Arena - Raleigh

We flew in from Connecticut just to see the game with some friends. The venue was nice. The parking area was good. The only complaint I would have is the poor sportsmanship like attitude with the “cheaters never win sign” on the big board when the Bruins got a penalty. Let’s face it… Penalties are part of the game!

    Canes games are always fun!

    by N. D. on 3/26/23PNC Arena - Raleigh

While we actually didn't go to watch the Canes (Rangers fans), the games are always fun & the arena is clean & the workers are polite. Even in the upper level, the view is good. We loved tailgating in the nice weather beforehand as well.

    Not good

by Maddie on 3/14/23PNC Arena - Raleigh

Had three people that couldn't fit in the chairs. When we went to customer service to see if we can sit somewhere else and pay for those tickets we were told just try. Also that they were sold out. Very disappointed because this was my husband and sons first time at a NHL game.

    Small seats

by Amandaplz on 3/8/23PNC Arena - Raleigh

We had seats in the upper deck, section 316. The seats were so small. I’m a 150 lb woman with an athletic build and my legs rubbed on the arm rests and cup holders each time I sat down. My husband is a large man, 350 lbs 6’6”, think former college offensive lineman size, and he just fit into the seats without there being an issue. He had bruises on his legs after the game from where the arm rests dug into his skin. There are a lot of people his size or larger who I know had just as uncomfortable experience as he did. Maybe instead of herding people in like cattle to maximize profits, a little thought could have been put in to consider human comfort. And before we get into fat shaming, my husband works out 5-6 days a week and is as strong as an ox - but there is no excuse. Everyone should be able to be accommodated at hockey game without having to be in pain the whole time. Otherwise the game was great, every staff member was cordial, and the fan atmosphere made it a lot of fun even if the lightning got blow out horrifically.

    Great Hockey Game

by BDT on 3/8/23PNC Arena - Raleigh

Game was fast paced and the crowd really got into the game. It was kid’s day so the players brought their kids onto the ice after the game which was really nice.
