Carolina Hurricanes History
The Carolina Hurricanes were established in Raleigh in 1997 after relocating from Hartford, Connecticut, where the National Hockey League franchise was originally founded in 1979. Since their arrival in North Carolina, the Hurricanes have made the playoffs ten times, captured six division championships, two Eastern Conference titles and the 2006 Stanley Cup Championship.
The team also hosted the 2004 NHL Draft and the 2011 NHL All-Star Game at PNC Arena, where they play their home games. When the Hurricanes made the playoffs in 2001, against the defending Stanley Cup Champions New Jersey Devils, they lost the series but came back from a 3-0 deficit to force a sixth game — marking what many believed to be the start of real hockey in the Research Triangle.
The 2005-2006 season marked the best in the Hurricanes' history, as the team finished with 112 points, beating the previous franchise-best record of 94 points. They ended up beating the Edmonton Oilers in the Stanley Cup Final, marking the first time in NHL history that two former World Hockey Association teams faced off in the Final.

Carolina Hurricanes at PNC Arena
Located in Raleigh, North Carolina, PNC Arena opened its doors in October 1999. On opening night, the arena played host to Raleigh's first-ever NHL game when the Hurricanes hosted the New Jersey Devils. The arena has hosted several NHL Stanley Cup Playoff and Final games, including on June 19, 2006, when the Hurricanes had the home advantage and won the Stanley Cup Final in game seven, deviating the Edmonton Oilers 3-1, bringing the Hurricanes their first Stanley Cup and the first major professional sports championship for North Carolina.
In 2019, the arena hosted the Stanley Cup Playoffs for the first time in 10 years and set a single-game record with 19,495 fans in attendance. That record was further extended on May 14, 2022, when the Hurricanes defeated the Boston Bruins 3-2 before 19,513 fans. PNC Arena welcomes more than 1.5 million guests every year.

by Scott on 2/27/23PNC Arena - RaleighHad a great time. Got there early and with prepaid general parking got a handicap slot in the row closest to the arena. Although sat on the top row, was on the blue line and sight lines were excellent. Only suggestion is to extend the handrail the last three rows up in the upper sections. Old folks that are not that nimble would appreciate it. A great time in all

Cam Ward’s induction ceremony into the Hurricane’s Hall of Fame was a fantastic tribute to his stellar career as goalie. Helping win the Stanley Cup in his rookie season was cemented his legacy. The entire Hurricanes organisation really made it a special event!

Our family definitely plan another trip to PNC to see a Canes game next season. We can't wait!!

by HockeyGrl88 on 1/22/23PNC Arena - RaleighI’m an avid hockey fan and unfortunately unless I travel to another state this is the only venue in which to watch hockey near me. This was by far the worst experience. I remember when you could go inside and get away from the cold before the doors open but now the metal detectors are right at the entrance and you cannot get in any longer. They’ve changed to you, scan your own ticket which made things back up because the machines didn’t always work. The fans were absolutely awful to the fans of the opposing team. The cost of the concessions has gone up tremendously over the years.

They are tiny and made for someone is is made 150 pounds at most. I’ve never been to any arena where the seats are that small.

by KH on 12/30/22PNC Arena - RaleighIf you buy “seats 4, 5, 6, and 7 in row SRO” those are not seats but you can stand along a rail and see half if the ice. When the action is on the other half of the ice you have to watch the screen, even if no one is in the seats in front of you. Maybe someone who goes to lots of sports events knows this, but I was buying tickets as a gift for someone who likes hockey. I can’t believe I spent $600 and couldn’t even see the ice!!!!
