Legendary sax man Boney James is a model of stamina and endurance, consistently wowing fans with his nonpareil virtuosity and herculean performances. BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Massachusetts-born James Oppenheim, a.k.a. Boney James, began playing clarinet at age eight, switching to saxophone two years later. In his teens, he was introduced to Motown and jazz saxophonist Grover Washington Jr., leading him to join a fusion band when his family moved him to Los Angeles at age 14. Following stints as a session player for acts like the Isley Brothers and Teena Marie and a featured role playing in Morris Day's band, James released his solo debut album Trust in 1992. Since then, he has released more than a dozen albums, selling more than three million records worldwide and earning a number of accolades including a Soul Train Award and two NAACP Image Awards. Back on the road, he'll draw from his decade-spanning catalog to deliver fans an unforgettable night of virtuoso sax playing.

I really enjoyed when he and Big Mike did a rendition of Bill Withers's song that blew everyone away!!!! An awesome musical experience and the ambience and enthusiasm of the concertgoers were evident!!

This was my first time attending a concert at Detroit Sound Board, and my over all experience was truly amazing from parking, the staff, restrooms and vending were great. So I decided to purchase tickets for three more concerts. The Detroit Sound Board is a class A venue!

I remember purchasing the tickets from Ticketmaster five minutes after they went on sale months ago as part of the Birthday celebration for my Queen. Well worth it! We met two additional couples from Florida who joined our table and the party was complete. Boney James puts on a dynamic show and his accompanying musicians were all outstanding. "PERFECT Show"! Also, attending this show made us remember why we like the venue at the Birchmere so much, large yet intimate.

He is so personable and is very engaging with the audience. He gets everyone into the fun and grooving to the great tunes. He always does a good mix of new music of his as well as long time hits. Go see him if you have the opportunity. You won't be sorry!! :-)

He played songs from his new CD (which I hadn't heard) as well as all my favorites! It was one of the best shows! Bought the tickets months ago and well worth the wait!

Always fun, personal, and so very talented. I love his music, his style, his way of engaging the audience to make us feel like we are sitting in his living room listening to the best smooth jazz around.
