BONEY JAMES IN CONCERT:
Legendary sax man Boney James is a model of stamina and endurance, consistently wowing fans with his nonpareil virtuosity and herculean performances. BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:
Massachusetts-born James Oppenheim, a.k.a. Boney James, began playing clarinet at age eight, switching to saxophone two years later. In his teens, he was introduced to Motown and jazz saxophonist Grover Washington Jr., leading him to join a fusion band when his family moved him to Los Angeles at age 14. Following stints as a session player for acts like the Isley Brothers and Teena Marie and a featured role playing in Morris Day's band, James released his solo debut album Trust in 1992. Since then, he has released more than a dozen albums, selling more than three million records worldwide and earning a number of accolades including a Soul Train Award and two NAACP Image Awards. Back on the road, he'll draw from his decade-spanning catalog to deliver fans an unforgettable night of virtuoso sax playing.

He is not only a great musician but a great entertainer. Will definitely tell my friends about this thrilling concert event.

I had a choice for the month to see Boney, Kenny G, or Dave Koz. I made the right decision. I saw Boney back in 1997 and he was even better last night. His style and sound is unique. If you didn't go then sorry for you. I went to the BB King concert last month and will put Boney's display right there with the legend BB King. I got to shake his hand. As a saxophone player, I am honored for the opportunity and experience.....Peace

I hope Boney"s first-time experience in El Paso was as exciting and positive as his performance was to El Paso afficionados at the Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Center.who were there to watch him and his amazing "Sax". and his dynamic band for the first time. How many performers receive a standing ovation before they begfn? That tells you that El Pasoans are craving the Smooth Jazz sounds. Boney's performance aroused everyone's mood to move and groove. There was great interaction and rapport between performer and audience. My husband and I have seen Dave Koz perform four times, in El Paso and in Phoenix, Arizona. Each time we have been thrilled. Boney's performance was quite comparable and the El Paso audience loved it and showed Boney their enjoyment by the many standing ovations throughout the evening. El Paso fans will be ready for an encore performance of Boney's energy and enthusiasm. Boney will be back in El Paso and we will be ready!!!

by Dori on 7/10/09The Plaza Theatre Performing Arts Center - El PasoBoney James performance was fantastic. He did not talk a lot he just played! his back up band was great. I would go to another one of his concerts. He included the audience on a couple of songs. He was truly amazing. He switched his instruments from tenor sax to alto and soprano.

Turns out he's the ultimate performer! Great rapport with the audience, wandered around through the aisles playing, range of his hits...just great! Only suggestion...wish he had chatted a little between songs...

Just because the house wasn’t full that didn’t keep Boney was playing as though he was in a packed stadium. His band was overflowing with talent too. I felt Boney was playing just for me. Very charismatic performer.
