About

Animal Collective's founding members, Avey Tare and Panda Bear, began their musical collaboration in 2000 with the release of the folk-meets-electronica album Spirit They're Gone, Spirit They've Vanished. Adding two new band members to the roster—Geologist and Deaken—the band's music moved into more experimental territory on their second release, Danse Manatee, an album full of electronic bleeps, cymbal crashes and otherworldly vocals. 2003 saw the release of the lo-fi folk album Campfire Songs as well as the psychedelic rock album Here Comes the Indian. The group's most accessible release to date, Sung Tongs, appeared in 2004, receiving enthusiastic praise from fans and critics alike. The group kept busy in 2005, releasing an EP, Prospect Hummer, in collaboration with the singer Vashti Bunyan and a new full-length, Feels.

  • Waiting two decades for this one

    by D.D. on 6/17/23Revolution Live - Ft LauderdaleRating: 5 out of 5

I have missed them every time they come because they usually sell out. I was extremely happy they played purple bottle. The set was amazing and I realized I do not know any of their new music but it did not really matter because they sounded amazing live and went through a lot of different styles from ambience, sequencers, new wave, folk, pop, etc. I really hope to see them again. I think that now they have the experience to make songs off of feels, sung tongs etc. sound really good live. Set sounded amazing live. Thanks for coming to South Florida.

  • Best experience ever

Literally the best moment of my life. Would recommend to anyone. 100/10 500 million stars.

  • Disappointed

by Wawa on 7/12/22Revolution Live - Ft LauderdaleRating: 2 out of 5

Love this band, and was really excited to see them live for the first time. However, they barely played any of their hit songs. Not even “My Girls” (their most streamed song) which was very strange. There were about 4-5 songs they played in a row that were consistently slow and dreary, and you could tell the audience wasn’t feeling it. I heard someone audibly say “I’m about to fall asleep!” Again, love this band but would never want to see them live again.

  • What a trip

by DirtyMac on 5/25/22Rating: 5 out of 5

First time at Humphrey's, I'm from the east coast. Went on on a whim, fantastic decision. The crowd's vibe was great, the music was perfect. The band brought the energy, you could feel it all.

  • Great outdoor venue.

by Bpuzz on 5/23/22Humphreys Concerts By the Bay - San DiegoRating: 5 out of 5

Humphries has come a long way since I was there long ago. They downsized the venue which made being able to enjoy the sound and the view much better then my past experience. Of course Animal Collective and Spirit Of The Beehive killed it. Had a great time and will definitely be up to enjoy another show at Humphries.

  • A One of a Kind Experience

    by Snitz17 on 8/2/18Fox Theater - Oakland - OaklandRating: 5 out of 5

Animal Collective is my all time favorite band and it was my dream for them to do an album tour. The sound was perfection.

  • by Anonymous on 8/2/18Moore Theatre - SeattleRating: 3 out of 5

I think this is the first time I've ever left a show before the end. Right after "We Tigers," I was out because I just could not sustain interest in the extremely long sound play that was interspersed between songs from Sung Tongs. Maybe if I'd known ahead of time that would be happening and I could have taken some shrooms or I don't know, peyote, I might have been able to journey along with the band, but it wasn't transcendent on its own.

  • Animal Collective Is the Best

A very intimate cosmic journey through Sung Tongs. I really enjoyed it.
