About

ANGEL OLSEN IN CONCERT:

Alternative folk singer-songwriter Angel Olsen's voice is the kind that can stop you dead in your tracks. It's hauntingly beautiful and charged with passion, and ticket buyers just can't get enough of it at her unmissable live shows. From the rockabilly "Hi-Five" and the sprawling "High & Wild" to the electric, distorted "Forgiven/Forgotten", her songs have an emotional pull that's even more entrancing in person. Olsen alternates between performing solo with an electric guitar and playing with the rest of her band, comprised of a guitarist, bassist, and drummer. Regardless of who's on stage with her, Olsen's stellar performances are always steered by her poignant voice, rich lyricism, and commanding stage presence.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Angel Olsen grew up in St. Louis immersed in her parents' favorite music -- from the Everly Brothers' beautiful harmonies to Skeeter Davis' country-pop prowess. As a teenager she performed in coffee shops around St. Louis and Chicago and was eventually discovered by Cairo Gang leader Emmet Kelly. Kelly passed her music on to esteemed folk artist Will Oldham, who invited Olsen on tour with him. She spent the next couple years as Oldham's backing vocalist, touring all over the world and appearing on two of his studio albums. In 2012 she kicked off her solo career by releasing the understated yet passionate EP Strange Cacti and touring alongside Kurt Vile and Neko Case. Since then she has released two studio albums, 2012's Half Way Home and 2014's Burn Your Fire For No Witness, earning critical praise and headlining shows across the country. A rare talent with a world-class voice, Olsen continues to thrill concert goers with spellbinding live shows.

  • Phenomenal Solo Acoustic Performance

    by Jack C on 10/1/24State Theatre - PortlandRating: 5 out of 5

Angel Olsen is always incredible to see live, but to see her perform a spare solo acoustic set was even more spellbinding. She sounded incredible and her vocals were amazing. She had great banter with the crowd and even took a fan request for a song. 10/10.

  • Angel @ Academy of Music

by Jennymae on 9/30/24Rating: 5 out of 5

Angel Olsen rulez but then you add a small, beautiful venue (Academy of Music) and no band just Angel and some guitars!?!? What an epic night! Memorizing and captivating - her soulful voice kept people off their phones and glued to their seats! ‘‘Twas a night I’ll never forget ✌️met some fans like me 💘

  • gorgeous, ethereal, real, intimate

by Rewarded fan who ended up going twice on 10/29/23Neptune Theatre - SeattleRating: 5 out of 5

This is the third and fourth time I've seen her (I went back on Friday because it felt so good to be there Thursday). She's still playful with the audience, but there is this sort of new maturity or realness about her that makes her songs and voice all the better. She is the opposite of so many artists we see today; she has played many shows and she knows it. She didn't get here via an edited YouTube account; she's a veteran. No gimmicks. She's up there with that gorgeous voice and that straight face and it feels so good. She joked the audience was quiet and it was unnerving, and I was like, "it's because we are mesmerized and you've got us eating out of your hands."At some point, she asked the sound tech to turn down the vocals and we were all like, "Nnnnnooooooo!"But she is not a showboat. She's just cool and sexy and talented. I was surprised how little of the new EP she played (I was rooting for "Nothing's Free"), but when she played "Windows"from Burn Your Fire album I thought I was in heaven. My brother went the first night. He didn't know her before this and really dug it--called her ethereal. The second night I went with two friends: one said some people just have the right name: she is an Angel. My other friend said she sounded like a better-live Appalachian Lana del Rey (I'm still chewing on this one). I don't want to sound anti-change, but if you're sick of people who prioritize fame or who sound good on the album and not in person, Angel is your antidote. Even if you're not, she's just a true broad with a gorgeous voice who's good for the soul.

  • AN ABSOLUTE REAL ANGEL

She’s amazing. I felt like I died and went to heaven when she was singing! An absolute must of a show!

  • incredible concert that exceeded all expectations!

  • Better than most these days but still could be better...

by Better than alot... but could be better on 1/31/23The Factory - ChesterfieldRating: 4 out of 5

I enjoyed her band, her performance. I especially liked when she just sang, she got way more into her performance when she wasnt holding a guitar. Her banter with the audience could be more engaging... less apathy or dissociation could help her in building rapport with the audience. Overall, nice music, coo vibes. I just want her to feel more free to be herself and not have to hude behind a pretentious hipster persona. If shes happy to be playing a show, Id like to see that. After dropping $80 on tickets, id like to see someone who is genuinely happy Im there to see them.

  • best show in a while

by alc on 1/31/23The Factory - ChesterfieldRating: 5 out of 5

Angel was wonderful!!! Captivating and absolutely entrancing. The crowd was really sweet and fun and it was a beautiful mix of music to dance and to cry to. (The drinks were really pricey but I obviously do not hold that against Angel👼)

  • Exceeded expectations

by Charlienotchuck on 1/31/23The Factory - ChesterfieldRating: 5 out of 5

First time seeing Angel live. Exceeded my expectations. An artist that delivers live better than recorded. Excellent musicianship and audience interaction. Only kind of issue, would have been even better in a smaller venue.

Best concert I have been to in awhile. Every song I wanted to hear was in the set list. The sound quality was amazing

  • Low energy vibes

by Yeehawt on 1/30/23Liberty Hall - LawrenceRating: 3 out of 5

The experience wasnt bad, nor was the band. I think it was mainly surprising the opener had over an hour and it was very low energy. By the time Angel came on around 10 I was pretty much half way asleep.
