ANGEL OLSEN IN CONCERT:

Alternative folk singer-songwriter Angel Olsen's voice is the kind that can stop you dead in your tracks. It's hauntingly beautiful and charged with passion, and ticket buyers just can't get enough of it at her unmissable live shows. From the rockabilly "Hi-Five" and the sprawling "High & Wild" to the electric, distorted "Forgiven/Forgotten", her songs have an emotional pull that's even more entrancing in person. Olsen alternates between performing solo with an electric guitar and playing with the rest of her band, comprised of a guitarist, bassist, and drummer. Regardless of who's on stage with her, Olsen's stellar performances are always steered by her poignant voice, rich lyricism, and commanding stage presence.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

Angel Olsen grew up in St. Louis immersed in her parents' favorite music -- from the Everly Brothers' beautiful harmonies to Skeeter Davis' country-pop prowess. As a teenager she performed in coffee shops around St. Louis and Chicago and was eventually discovered by Cairo Gang leader Emmet Kelly. Kelly passed her music on to esteemed folk artist Will Oldham, who invited Olsen on tour with him. She spent the next couple years as Oldham's backing vocalist, touring all over the world and appearing on two of his studio albums. In 2012 she kicked off her solo career by releasing the understated yet passionate EP Strange Cacti and touring alongside Kurt Vile and Neko Case. Since then she has released two studio albums, 2012's Half Way Home and 2014's Burn Your Fire For No Witness, earning critical praise and headlining shows across the country. A rare talent with a world-class voice, Olsen continues to thrill concert goers with spellbinding live shows.

Angel is the best performer out there

by Anonymous on 12/12/14Bowery Ballroom - New York

This is not the first time I've seen Angel Olsen and by God I hope it's not the last. Her songs, her voice and her presence and attention to the crowd make her unforgettable. She steals your heart with the first song and breaks it with the last. I hope anyone who appreciates this music gets the chance to see her live. I know I'm looking forward to my next time. My gratitude to Ms. Olsen

    talented

by glah on 12/11/14Bowery Ballroom - New York

Olsen's music is "non hurtful" in terms of not being thrash, and yet being relevent to current generations. I thought the show was nice, straightforward, and super tuneful. Her manner towards the audiences has a slight snark edge, but that could be due to general deadpan nature. SHe's not an emotional gush person. But she said some witty things, and mostly just concentrated on the music. A really good show over all. About an hour and 15 minutes long. See her perform, she's really talented. The audio on the vocals could've been crisper. It was weird that, on the floor, general admission, they were slightly murkier than I've heard in other Bowery Ballroom performances. but still ok.

Angel Olsen took the stage and performed an absolutely breathtaking show. She sounded as phenomenal live and she does on her albums. Nothing bad to say at all. She cracked jokes inbetween songs and was just really honest and fun. Her voice was on point and she even said she wasnt feeling good! I enjoyed this show so much and look forward to seeing her again soon :) :) :)

Angel Olsen / Is she truly an angel?

by mightymogwai on 12/9/14Roulette - Brooklyn

Drinking beer, making jokes about her interactions with journalists and staying full of light blues at all times. Her voice floats like an unique bird, mesmerizing anyone watching it traverse the space. The lyrics are hitting all the spots that you've been hiding from your friends, parents, coworkers for the most of your life. You feel exposed from her exposure, but hopeful. There is a light in the music, there is kindness, naughtiness and the desire to live a unique life celebrating the love of life, without turning away from the inherent sadness of this world. If you need those feelings in your life, try to catch her live performance. Or just listen to her in iTunes/ Spotify / Play

    The Voice of Angel Olsen

by sebastianbr on 5/12/14The Sinclair - Cambridge

Angel Olsen walked out on stage at the Sinclair to a sold out show. You could feel the giddiness in a crowd of respectful and eager listeners and fans. In her slacker-rock outfit she captivated us not with her dancing, not by being sexy, not by telling jokes, and certainly not by bantering with the audience, just simply with her voice. It was hard to believe that with barely parted lips her voice carried further than I've heard on the Sinclair's sound system. She jammed with her band and played solo -- which is how she closed out her set, and her encore. There was literally nothing to complain about. I'd see her again in a heartbeat if she were to come back.
