About

Lurching back into Chicago for a return engagement, THE ADDAMS FAMILY is a smash-hit musical comedy that brings the darkly delirious world of Gomez, Morticia, Uncle Fester, Grandma, Wednesday, Pugsley and, of course, Lurch to spooky and spectacular life. This magnificently macabre new musical comedy is created by Jersey Boys authors Marshall Brickman & Rick Elice, Drama Desk-winning composer/lyricist Andrew Lippa (The Wild Party), choreographer Sergio Trujillo (Jersey Boys) and Olivier Award-winning director/designers Phelim McDermott & Julian Crouch (Shockheaded Peter) with creative consultation by four-time Tony Award® winner Jerry Zaks. Come meet the family. We'll leave the lights off for you.

    Addam's Family Review- Majumdar

by AndyRitz on 12/31/11Cadillac Palace - Chicago

The show was enchanting. The performances were world-class and the production quality was seen to be believed. It was a once in a lifetime experience for us. My wife and I thoroughly enjoyed it.

    Great Venue, Great Show!

    by fishman23 on 12/30/11Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I'm not much of a theater-goer, and this was my first musical in quite some time, but I really enjoyed the show. The venue was great, Cadillac Palace is truly beautiful. As other reviews say, there's not a bad seat in the house and I would have to agree with that assessment. We sat up in the balcony but saw everything quite well. The show was very good, really funny in some parts, still with a pretty good storyline. Acting and singing was convincing to me, I even thought this Wednesday was more believable than the actress singing on the soundtrack. Uncle Fester steals the show, always stepping in for a bit of comic relief. Overall, a very nice way to spend an afternoon!

    New and improved

by SBXmugcollector on 12/30/11Cadillac Palace - Chicago

We were so happy that we decided to see this show again. Of course, we enjoyed it the first time, but the new version was so much more fun! Also, liked that this version was much more family oriented.

The play was fast paced, way too over rehearsed. Very entertaining!! The cast enjoyed themselves and so did the audience.

    Addams Family was just OK

by BakeFly on 12/30/11Cadillac Palace - Chicago

We sat in the Dress Circle, center stage. Not sure if that location interfered with the sound, but the singing was not "bright." As for the show, it was mildly entertaining. The first act was slow moving; the second act was much better. Given that the story is based off a cartoon, then maybe I should have expected the lack of character development and the somewhat staged performance. It certainly was NOT "Phantom" nor "Wicked." This is the first time I have been less than thrilled by a show downtown.

    Addams Family- slightly boring

    by CK22 on 12/30/11Cadillac Theater - Chicago

A big fan of the Addams Family show growing up, this show was a vague tribute. Rather slow with not enough of the macabre humor that made the television show. We couldn't understand Gomez's accent, or why he even had one. Wednesday was a far cry from the original character with her smiles and chipper demeanor- granted it was part of the storyline, but a little too far from the dark Wednesday we know. Had a little trouble staying awake before intermission.

Addams Family was altogether wonderfully ooky!

by Banditdog on 12/30/11Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I'm not sure what is different from it's original run that received lukewarm reviews, but the version of the Addams Family musical we saw last night at the Cadillac Palace in Chicago was terrific. While I wouldn't put it up there with some top shows such as Wicked, I would still recommend it. (Too bad it's run is so short.) Went with my wife and 2 daughters ages 13 and 18 and we all loved it. (The 13 year-old had no idea who the Addams family was.) We all felt the first act was stronger than the second and that some songs feel a bit short – my daughters weren't leaving there asking for the CD or anything, but still overall a very enjoyable theater experience with some fun surprises. Set design was fun and creative without over relying on tricks. We all loved Cortney Wolfson's Wednesday most of all but felt all the actors delivered engaging performances. Was a bit sad that Thing didn't have more of a role than a quick cameo.

    Wonderful!

by KJWN on 12/30/11Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Play=outstanding! Not for young children however!! Took my grandson, age 8, because he enjoys the Addams Family show and movies. A lot of sexual inuendo, that thanfully went over his head, but he was a little bored with the story, although he did enjoy the music, especially the opening number. Should have checked it out beforehand. We, the adults, enjoyed the play immensely!

It was an amazing piece of art. The cast played , sang and danced to perfection. The only thing that might (and I stresss might) have made it better would have been seeing Nathan Lane as Gomez.

Adams Family is fun and entertaining

by Chicagofunmom on 12/30/11Cadillac Palace - Chicago

This was a great production and a lot of fun for the entire family. The actor who played Gomez was exceptional. There were many hilarious moments. I brought two 13 year old girls who thoroughly enjoyed the play.

    Good Family Fun

by RickMc on 12/30/11Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I read a lot of reviews about Addams Family 2.0 and that this production was a remake...it all really didn't matter. As someone who grew up in the 60's, I understood all of the jokes and references and found them very funny. The actors were great. My only wish was that I had bought better seats and that I was closer to the stage.

This edition of The Addams Family was very entertaining. The cast was very good and the show moved right along. While this play is not likely to join the ranks of Phantom or Les Mis in terms of being a classic, it does make for a very enjoyable evening at the theater.

    Very entertaining!

    by brdwyfan15 on 12/30/11Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I wasn't expecting too much from this show, and I had heard there were many rewrites since it's last visit to Chicago. What a pleasant surprise! My son (11) and I both loved it. It was very funny, good music numbers, and a very talented cast. I am so glad we took a chance on this one, it paid off!

    Fun Play

by rummager on 12/30/11Cadillac Palace - Chicago

I didn't know what to expect since I hadn't seen this play before. I found this play thoroughly enjoyable. I thought all the lead actors were well cast and exceptionally good. I loved Morticia and Gomez. This was a fun time. My only complaint was the story line a little weak and some of the best bits just came out of nowhere and had little to do with the main story line... The theater was packed and everyone around me seemed to enjoy it as much as I did

    Good, not great

by Chitheatergoer on 12/29/11Cadillac Theater - Chicago

The performances were good, but there was nothing super special about it. It was kinda forgettable except for Uncle Fester's scenes with the moon in Act II.

    Addams Family was very forgettable

by merrytk on 12/29/11Cadillac Palace - Chicago

Too many songs with no purpose to the story. There needed to be a lot more dialog to make you care about what was happening. There were some funny one liners, just not nearly enough of them. Many times they would go from one very long song to another very long song, and neither song did much to move the story along. Before the intermission was much better than after.
