About

ABC IN CONCERT:

British new wave sensation ABC rose to fame in the early '80s thanks to their sophisticated pop sound and the splashy, stylish showmanship of lead singer Martin Fry. Three decades later Fry is as dapper and confident as ever at the band's live shows, crooning classic ABC hits like "The Look of Love" and "All My Heart" as if not a day had passed. From his charming accent and tailored suits to his perfectly preserved pipes, Fry remains a consummate performer, exuding the energy and charisma of a performer at the top of his game. Whether he's shooting that "Poison Arrow" straight to fans' hearts or warning that "Vanity Kills", Fry's passionate voice and upbeat stage presence always gets ticket buyers singing and dancing along on ABC's must-see tours.

BACKGROUND SNAPSHOT:

ABC formed in Sheffield, UK in the late '70s with Fry initially acting as the band's synth player. By 1980 he had become lead singer, and in 1981 ABC scored their first hit with the UK Top 20 single "Tears Are Not Enough". Their rise continued in 1982 with their debut album The Lexicon of Love, which topped the UK Albums Chart and scored a No. 1 dance hit in the US with "The Look of Love". Their chart success waned in the mid-'80s, but by 1987 ABC was back on top with their fourth album Alphabet City, which spawned the US dance chart No. 1 "When Smokey Sings". Though the band's lineup has evolved over the years, Fry has remained a constant, releasing albums and touring throughout the '90s and '00s. In 2008 he released ABC's eighth album Traffic, a stellar slice of '80s-inspired pop that critics hailed as a return to form. Since then he's continued to treat fans around the world to his signature debonair performances.

    Worth the Wait!

by NewEnglander on 7/29/22Sony Hall - New York

We had tried to see ABC Martin Fry twice before, once in Cape Cod (MA), pre-Covid, and again at Sony Hall after Covid hit, and both concerts were canceled. The third time was the charm - they were incredible and so worth the wait. Martin has an amazing voice and a very talented band. I'm partial to the saxophone solos but all the musicians were excellent. They played all of their hits including Vanity Kills which I adore, and Viva Love which is underappreciated here in the U.S. Sony Hall has the old-fashioned glamour that made it the perfect venue for ABC. I truly hope they will be back for another concert soon.

Not a venue I would go to again

by Ted S. on 7/11/22Sony Hall - New York

Great show spoiled by very little, if any, air conditioning and the fog machine near the bar spewing a rancid smell of chemicals all show.

    Sooo good!

by Mima on 7/10/22Sony Hall - New York

ABC delivered an excellent show. Sony Thestre was the perfect venue except for the fact that the air conditioning could have been a bit stronger

    Intimate show at Sony hall

by NYC dweller on 7/9/22Sony Hall - New York

ABC will come back with much bigger production next time I’m sure. This was just a warm up. Nothing was pre recorded and all the musicians were top notch professionals. Especially the saxophone player. Martin still has a great voice. Played all the classics and narrated most of the numbers. Lasted and hour and a half.

ABC , Martin Fry put on a Stellar Performance!!!

by Jimmy on 7/9/22Sony Hall - New York

Martin Fry of ABC still has the vocal chops and knows how to work a room. He shows why the 80's was such an important time for great music! From his polished dapper suit to fine suave combed hair, he proves once again that he still has not lost his touch. He played all the ABC hits any fan would be dying to hear. His band was also on point and very playful with the audience. I had the pleasure of meeting Martin and can testify he is down to earth and a class act. Judging from the crowd of fans, everyone had such an awesome time. Can't wait until they come back to play at this venue again! FANTASTIC BAND!!! FANTASTIC MUSIC!!! FANTASTIC TIME!!!

    Excellent show

by Dr D on 7/9/22Sony Hall - New York

I'm mostly guilty of only knowing their big hits, but their full range was on display that night. Every song was great. They played a variety of songs from most of their albums. Martin Fry is a great showman and raconteur. Was funny and down to earth.
