50 Shades! the Musical was frickkin funny!!!

by NorthwestCouple on 1/20/15Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

My wife and I went to see the play "50 Shades! the Musical" in Chicago at the Broadway Playhouse. Its a small venue (about 500?) and a great place to see a play. The play itself was really funny - I mean laugh out loud for almost the entire play kind of funny. Its "raunchy" and "crude", but hey, did you really come to see "50 Shades" and expect a PG show? To be clear, no nudity if that offends you

    50 Shades The Musical

by MaryKate123 on 1/20/15Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

Overall it was cute but I didn't find it worth the travel time to get downtown and pay for parking. I live about 45 minutes away. It was nice, however, to park in Water Tower place and get validated parking for $15 which would have been the cost for 2 people traveling by train and bus. Again, just don't think it was worth the travel time however (even via car).

50 shades was unexpected and funny!

by Stolorg on 1/20/15Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

I really had no idea what to expect out of this musical, but they did a great job of relaying the book and making it a comedy. There choices in cast and content were great!

50 Shades provided much more than anticipated. I had not read a review, and purchased tickets without expectation. It was absolutely hilarious, and while probably not for everyone, I do recommend for anyone who has read the book!

50 Shades:the Musical was very forgettable

by Fluffy15 on 1/19/15Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

The actors, especially the Christian Grey character, were competent but the play reminded me of a merely adequate burlesque show. I'm glad we only paid about $40 a ticket. However, it did elicit a lot of hoots and applause from the large section of the audience who were young women under 30.

    Refreshingly funny

by EVDoesIt on 1/19/15Broadway Playhouse at Water Tower Place - Chicago

I bought these tickets as an xmas gift for my gf and I. I went to the show with lower expectations and didn't really have an idea what to expect. At the start of the show when the announcer boomed "Ladies and Gentlemen who were forced to attend by their ladies...", it put me in the right mindset. I didn't stop laughing from that point throughout the entirety of the show. The dialogue and music was extremely clever. The expressions and movements of the actors had a cartoon like quality that i found very appealing. Each actor was amazing in their own right and they appeared to be having a good time with their roles. One suggestion I have for anyone going to see this show is really whoop it up (sorry, couldn't think of a better expression at the moment) for the cast. They seem to feed off the energy. This play isn't for everyone. If you are easily offended by most things sexual, I would suggest sitting this one out, it does get pretty raunchy. If you are up for a fun night, then this play is a must see. I look forward to seeing members of this cast in future productions. Thank you for such an amazing night!

50 Shades was hysterical. My friends and I laughed the entire time and one of them didn't read the books. We were suprised to see so many men there but they enjoyed themselves too. If you want a fun night out 50 shades is a must.

50 Shades: The Musical was a laugh riot! The writing was cutting and clever and the cast was so talented. Those Book Club ladies - our cheeks were hurting from laughing so much! We went with a large group, and we would definitely all see it again if it comes back to Chicago!
