About

Heart-pounding, fast-paced and adrenaline-seeking are all ways to describe the new hockey phenomenon known as 3ICE. 3ICE is a new 3-on-3 ice hockey league traveling across the United States and Canada this summer. Unlike traditional hockey, 3ICE only allows six players and one goalie on the team and three players and one goalie on the ice at any given time. The game is structured with two, 8-minute halves with a running clock (the clock only stops for injuries and penalties). The league consists of six teams, all coached by former NHL® players and Stanley Cup® winners.

Each week, 3ICE has a tournament-style, winner-take-all event; starting with three opening games, then two semi-final games and a final championship game. Focusing on high intensity play and scoring, every penalty is issued as a penalty shot for the other team. The league has a no hitting and no fighting rule to emphasize the players' stick handling, passing and shooting. This expedited game highlights the players speed, agility and hockey IQ making it a thrill for all ages.

One fan wrote in a review, after watching the game with their children, "...the 3ICE experience was probably the most I have ever seen them enjoy watching any games. The pace was so fast with lots of high danger scoring opportunities."

Founded by E.J. Johnson, son of former NHL® goalie and Coach, Ed Johnson; 3ICE has currently raised over $9.5M. One of the goals of this league is to combine technology and sports. 3ICE is in their rookie year; so their tech is a work in progress.

Eventually, the league is working on innovations such as allowing fans to pick who takes the penalty shot via the 3ICE app and RFID chips in the puck, and they'll also be able to decide the stick and equipment the players use. The league currently has a 4k on ice camera operated by a skating cameraman. These innovations will allow fans to be directly involved with the game play, while seeing the real-time speed of players and their shots. The incentive to win is part of the fun. Each player is paid based on the PGA model (the more you win the more you are paid).

3ICE is also partnered with the TV providers CBS, RDS, TSN, and ESPN, and will be available to watch at home for all.

    What a Rush!

    by DGA on 8/5/23

3Ice in person is such as Rush! It's fast paced and fun! The stick handling is amazing and the format allows for some fancy moves by the players. The new Clarksville arena was beautiful.

Game was entertaining! Parking a Nightmare

    by kk on 8/5/23

3Ice is interesting to watch! F&M Arena is a nice venue. IF one can get to it. People circled like vultures to the few available closer parking spaces—which were nonexistent. Arrived over an hour early to the event but it didn’t seem to matter regarding parking. Sad that the developers planned such an event center but failed miserably in considering adequate and convenient parking for the customers and patrons that buy the tickets and whose taxes pay for the arena.

This is where you want to attend an event!

by The F&M area is very nice. Staff are courteous and helpful. on 8/5/23

Big enough, but not too big. Nice clean facility. Seats are spacious. Several food venues to choose from. Plenty of restrooms. All seats give a good view of the program. Will be attending more events at F&M Arena.

Pricing for what you get could be a lot better

    by Zac on 7/25/23

Even though there are no huge names that play in the actual games, some of the talent and what the guys can do, (especially on breakaways) was undeniable. Pretty cool format with awesome rules, but wayyy overpriced. Seeing NHL hall of gamers “coach” a mini game exhibition series does not warrant $40 plus tickets. Behind the glass shouldn’t have costed more than 20 bucks, especially since players weren’t accessible to kids for autographs even though they’re a bunch of has beens or scrubs that were never good enough for the NHL. Re-evaluate pricing and do better.

    Action Packed

    by Paul G on 7/22/23

3 on 3 ice hockey is pretty good-give it a try. Make sure you try to find out a bit about it first. Basically, non-stop action.
