The now Grammy Award Winner Cedric Burnside “I Be Tryin”, put on a tremendous concert Thursday night. Cedric started by playing several songs acoustically from the album and was in great vocal form, I’m not sure he needed a microphone. He started with the title track “The World Can Be So Cold” a haunting song. He then plugged in his electric guitar and brought out withhis last minute replacement drummer. His drummer is ill with liver disease. They had one rehearsal! They made it work and continued that infectious hill country rhythm. Of course they played a song his Grampa Rl Burnside was well known for “Po Black Mattie” the groove is special. The only downside was that Cedric is a SIX time Blues Drummer of the year award winner and he did not play drums this night, a first for me. Did not take away from the concert, just different.
I saw him open for Greta Van Fleet in Franklin at the First Bank Amphitheater and he was so great! He’s very chill in a rock way and he was equally as good as Greta! I highly recommend seeing him! ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
As a blues lover, this was interesting to say the least. Most attendees where "regulars" and we felt a bit out of place as we adjusted - but it was fun overall. Ced and Lightning have an enthusiastic following.
