ZZ Ward brings down the house
by MaripositaObsidiana on 11/11/12The Norva - NorfolkRating: 5 out of 5This was my first concert in years, and my first concert, ever, at the Norva. The opening band, Delta Dabney, was pretty cool, though the sound was a little off, so it was difficult to hear the lyrics to the songs. The second act, Seasick Mama, was horrible; I'm pretty sure the lead singer was drunk, high, or both, and she encouraged the audience to buy her a drink, to which they obliged. Either way, that act was not my cup of tea, and the only time my sisters and I clapped was when the band *left* the stage.
Finally, ZZ Ward came onstage. I have never been so close to an artist I love, nor have I been able to interact with the band, until this show. It was amazing to be so close that I could make eye contact with ZZ and her band, to talk to them, and to be able to have "front row" access to enjoy the show. ZZ Ward's stage presence was outstanding, her singing was on point, and the band was fantastic. It's rare that an artist sounds as good (if not better) in person as they do on the album, where editing often changes the sound completely.
