First off, let me state that I have much respect for any band that takes on the mighty ZEP. Their showmanship and musicianship were great. The obviously have gone to great lengths to study and emulate a great band. There were definitely moments where they shined, but overall it just didn’t gel enough to get excited. I don’t know the name of the bass, keyboard, and mandolin player, but his abilities were remarkable! I was disappointed that they didn’t play Moby Dick as I felt the drummer would have slayed it. The sound was a bit off in the first set, but credit to the band they made some equipment adjustments before going on in the second set and it was a bit better. I was a bit puzzled by the set list that took lesser known tracks from HOTH, SRTS, and Presence that lagged, and from the sound of guests talking through most of those, they really missed the mark. LZI, LZII, IV and In Through the Out Door were sadly for the most part ignored or left out. After the show they came back on stage and did lots of mingling and photo ops, wish was nice for those who really enjoyed themselves. The lighting (which I believe was the responsibility of The Magnolia was absolutely atrocious. Whoever they had running them didn’t know the songs or the cue points. Too many of the effects literally had us in the audience holding our hands over our eyes because of the lighting effects were directed at us instead of the band! Whoever ran, the lights had absolutely no clue of what they were doing. (I was there the week before to see Wildchild, a Doors cover band, and the lighting was excellent). Overall, compared to An Evening with Led Zeppelin (with Jason Bonham on drums) earlier this year and the cover band Led Zeppagain, they didn’t make the cut in my opinion. It’s a one and done for me.
