Zomboy in Concert

British bassmaster Zomboy named his 2017 release Rott N' Roll — and for very good reason. The EP hits you with four blasts of disorienting dubstep steeped in an aggressive energy more at home in the mosh pit than the dance tent, while exuding a sense of dramatic grandeur tailor-made for arenas. 

With his Rott N' Roll tour of large concert halls, Zomboy has engineered nothing less than an all-out sensory assault, complete with a retina-frying light show, psychedelic big-screen visuals, and skeleton-themed animations that morph and mutate faster than your brain can process them. But arguably the most transfixing sight is Zomboy himself, who can be seen enthusiastically jumping, fist-pumping, and shouting along to his tracks from behind the decks as if he were seriously contemplating a stage-dive into the crowd below. 

Zomboy Background

Born in the small English town of Penzance, Joshua Mellody cut his teeth playing in rock, punk, and metal bands before moving to London to study sound engineering in the early 2010s. While living there, his flatmates initiated him into the world of EDM, and Mellody developed a particular affinity for the harsh, tougher-than-metal dubstep of Skrillex. 

Adopting the name Zomboy while playing the Xbox zombie game Left 4 Dead, Mellody released his first EP, Game Time, through London label Never Say Die Records in 2011. He swiftly became one of the buzziest names in U.K. bass music. 

Within a year, he was making his U.S. debut at Las Vegas' Electric Daisy Carnival. Meanwhile, tracks like the dancehall-damaged "Nuclear (Hands Up)" and the earthquaking get-your-hands-up directive "Like a Bitch" vaulted him to the upper reaches of the Billboard Dance charts and festival lineups. His induction into EDM's elite inner circle was confirmed in 2016, when the ubiquitous Chainsmokers commissioned Zomboy to deliver the absolutely bonkers official remix of their chilled smash single "Don't Let Me Down."

    The show was great I loved all the producers who played but the venue kinda sucked, and the Ticketmaster didn’t specify whether I was buying a pit ticket or not so I had to pay extra for that while there

    I've never been to a dubstep concert before until now, and man everyone in the lineup absolutely melted the faces off of everyone in attendance! The ticket prices for this event were so cheap I couldn't pass up the opportunity, myself and my two brothers will never forget this event. Highly recommend going if you've never been, and for those who missed it shame on you.

    I will go straight to the point. If you have the chance to see Zomboy Live in your city you BETTER be like Nike and JUST DO IT!!! Zomboy made us all stay off the ground jumping around. Dropping bass bombs that would me your whole body vibrate to the beat. Just an amazing experience and you will be a fool to miss it. I just saw him 2 days ago (3/14/13) at the Masquerade in Atlanta, Georgia and I cannot wait to see him again! Thumbs up Zomboy! Keep on doing what you do cause you're the best at it!

    This concert was awesome, except it was annoying that it was 18 years and up, since nothing in the music was obscene. I think the shows should be changed to 16+ so more fans can get in. My brother got rejected for being too young, so we refunded the tickets only to find out in the next 5 minutes that it was changed to all ages. Also, Zomboy's setup broke down partway through but was fixed pretty quickly. However, the room was cool and the crowd was fun, so I had a good time.

    This was a super legit concert! All the people there were super fun to party with on the floor! Zomboy is a boss, and he has a mustache! Not much more to say other than that!

    My son and friends had tickets to see Zomboy. They are 14 years old. When I purchased their tickets, I looked carefully at the website to make sure there was no mention of this being an over 18 show --- there was none. When the boys and their chaperones arrived at the concert, they were informed that it was 18+ only. They were very disappointed, especially after driving an hour and making all sorts of arrangements to see the show. They waited in line and were refunded for the tickets, and then they drove back home. We were mortified to learn that after the show started, it was announced that it was suddenly an all-ages show --- too late for many who had made the trip. I don't know where the responsibility lies for this debacle --- is it the artist, the venue,???? Either way, we are not anxious to spread good word about it at this point, and not ready to sign up for any other concerts at Old National Centre.

    Overall a pretty solid show and venue even though the mixed drinks were weak.Sound issues here and there which were fixed relatively quickly (and easily lol). Not that much original work displayed which I wanted to see more (too many remixes etc) but I liked the stuff that was played.

    I loved the venue, great for EDM and dubstep shows. A few things I was disappointed in though... it was any age to get in, and although security did a good job at keeping things under control, it could have ended badly, and personally I don't really like partying with really young kids. It was also split into two different scenes- one being a BYOB area for 21+, and another being just an open area and stage. Some of my friends we were meeting didn't know this and didn't prepare well enough, it cost an extra $15 to use the BYOB option which is ridiculous, seeing as were bringing OUR OWN stuff and already paid for the show. All in all, it was a good night and we made the best of it. *PLUR* <3
