Zeds Dead on Tour

Veterans of the EDM festival circuit, Toronto's Zeds Dead are masters of unleashing singles to the masses to get everyone stoked for their live show. And over the summer of 2019, they dropped multiple tracks to do just that. The frenetic "Lift You Up," an accelerated synth-punk sprint that's liable to turn the dance tent into a mosh pit. "Rescue" — a collaboration with Dutch producer Dion Timmer and Toronto diva Delaney Jane — splits the difference between bass-wobbled beats and edgy alt-rock energy. But "Stars Tonight" — featuring Dutch duo DROELOE — leaps from piano-laced serenity to future-bass freakery, with heart-racing ascents and queasy drops that ensure their sets strike the right balance of euphoria and anarchy.

Zeds Dead in Concert

The Toronto-based duo of Dylan Mamid (aka DC) and Zachary Rapp-Rovan (aka Hooks) first came together in the mid-2000s under the name Mass Productions, a project steeped in their love of boom-bapped hip-hop. But as EDM came to dominate the city's club scene at the turn of the decade, the duo caught the wave and rebranded themselves Zeds Dead (a quote from Quentin Tarantino's Pulp Fiction). While the 2010 single "Rude Boy" captures them still transitioning out of old-school breaks toward nu-rave sonics, the series of EPs they released through Diplo's Mad Decent imprint over the course of 2012 and 2014 saw them change things up. They retrofitted their sound for the festival circuit (take, for example, the steep drops and subterranean bass of "Hadouken"), and they also initiated alt-rock crossovers with the likes of Twin Shadow and Perry Farrell. After launching their own label, Deadbeat, Zeds Dead released their first proper album statement, the Juno Award–nominated Northern Lights, in 2016, with a wildly eclectic guest list (Diplo, Pusha T, Weezer's Rivers Cuomo) that speaks to their ever-evolving fusion of sun-dappled EDM, gritty rap production and rock power.

The set was tightttt!!! They mixed in several huge tracks: Bass Head, Hold On, Illmerica, Up in the Club, and Scary Monsters and Nice Sprites to name a few. They played all of the hits, all the songs you would like to here, and for the encore (White Satin) I was right next to the stage, close enough to catch both DJs as they jumped into some crowd surfing madness right at the Drop. Overall awesome show, Better than the Rusko show that I saw a week before haha i might have gone a little too hard. Tonight: Zeds dead Morning after: Brain Dead.

initially I had low expectations of this event, because normally Im just a raver. and the last "dubstep" event I went to wasnt that great. But this completely exceeded my expectations. great music, great people. the place was packed. hands down, one of the best events Ive ever been to. Even the security there was really nice. It went about an hour and half longer than it said it would, so I definitely got my moneys worth. Overall great event, Id totally go again. my only complaint was that it was so hot in there because of all the people. but I guess that is to be expected.

  • no one was sleeping at zeds dead!

by theglenncoco on 4/23/11The Regency Ballroom - San FranciscoRating: 5 out of 5

the venue for the event was at a cool spot in SF and ballroom itself was a cool multi level thing so that was tight. with that out of the way, Zeds Dead was the insane. the energy from the crowd was glowing brighter than the rave lights on stage. with each song the band really drew everything they could from the audience so their stage presence made for a very excellent and compelling show. definitely recommend seeing these guys!!

  • Zeds Dead bassed my face off!!!!

  • ZEDS DEAD W/ OMAR LINX blew the roof off the OGDEN

by thenewdeadfan on 4/18/11Ogden Theatre - DenverRating: 5 out of 5

Zeds Dead Baby! Zeds Dead with guest Omar Linx took the Ogden to a new level. Zeds Dead is one of the biggest upcoming dubstep producers and their unbelievable wobbles shot up the theatre and set the 1300 person crowd on fire. They opened with a live version of Rude Boy w/ Omar Linx and closed with a brand new unreleased song from their new EP with Omar Linx. Zeds Dead poured it out to denver playing nearly every one of their songs and giving it up to the MILE HIGH CITY. The high altitude definitely didn't slow down Zeds Dead as they threw down their hardest and took the dubstep crown to a whompified utopia.

No one throws it down like Zeds. They are the beast masters of dubstep. blew my mind.

Zeds Dead was out of control. Such a high-energy, bass-filled show that I couldn't get enough of. My friends and I all had a PHENOMENAL time and I can't wait for their return to Denver!!!

The openers were on way too long, way too loud, the MC was retarded. Also, kids everywhere, high on drugs, running around all over the place. Guess I won't be going to anymore all age shows.
