About

Cat Stevens rose to fame in the swinging '60s with chart-topping pop hits such as "Matthew and Son" and "The First Cut Is the Deepest." His early career was interrupted by a near-fatal battle with tuberculosis - a turning point that ignited his quest for peace and understanding. Emerging from this experience, he rapidly rose to become one of the most prolific singer/songwriter icons of the '70s, captivating the world with soul-stirring anthems such as "Wild World," "Father and Son," "Peace Train," and "Morning Has Broken." His classic albums Mona Bone Jakon, Tea for the Tillerman, and Teaser and the Firecat have earned him a rightful place in both the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Following another dangerous encounter with fate and a near-drowning experience in 1975, Cat's life took a spiritual turn as he converted to Islam and changed his name to Yusuf Islam. Leaving the music industry behind, Yusuf dedicated his life to God, family, and humanitarian work, for which he received numerous prestigious international honors, including the World Award for "humanitarian relief work helping children and victims of war" and the Man of Peace Award, voted for by The Nobel Peace Laureates.

The latest chapter is Yusuf's return to music, through which he has re-joined his past and present lives. Now known as Yusuf/Cat Stevens - a name that represents the synergy between the two key periods of his existence - his inspirational story is one of quest, survival, and redemption. With more than 100 million records sold and billions of streams, his soulful voice and poetic lyrics continue to inspire, now intertwined with a life of activism and altruism. As a campaigner for faith education, ecological consciousness, and humanitarian work, Yusuf has become a global advocate for peace and coexistence.

  • Yusuf/Cat Stevens - Better than ever!

by bbibo on 12/12/14The Chicago Theatre - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Everyone should sometime in their life get to see their musical idols play live. Such was the case for my wife. When he walked on stage and sang his first song I thought she might cry. She has the best smile in the world and it hasn't left her face since that moment. On the way back to Wisconsin the next day we listened to nothing but his music and I will say now that I think his voice is better than it ever was. This was a once in a life time event for us and I am so happy we were able to go.

  • The concert of a lifetime!

It has been a lifelong dream of mine to see Cat Stevens in concert. I was finally able to do that, and for my 50th birthday celebration as an added bonus. The concert was simply amazing! Yusuf was even better live that I could have ever hoped for! I am so thankful that my dream came true!!

A man + his band + his music = magical moment! No light show. No back up dancers. No costumes. Plain and simple the way it used to be. A concert filled with heart and lyrics and talent.

The Peace Train trip was a very rewarding journey. Connecting with the music that gave so much comfort while growing up was a lovely experience. Yusuf was in great voice and the crowd responded with love. Truly in my top 10 of all-time concerts!

  • Yusuf/Cat Stevens was outstanding

by AnnCatStevensfan on 12/11/14Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was the best I have seen in years. Yusuf did many of his old songs from back in the day, and sounded incredible. His new pieces were also great. The venue was beautiful (Wang Center), you could see well even from the balcony. Love him !

by BRIBA on 12/11/14Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I've been to hundreds of concerts over the years and this show ranks among the best I have seen. Yusuf delivered an incredible night of old and new songs. The band was amazing and the Wang Theater was as beautiful a place to see a show as I have ever been to. I just Hope he continues to tour and comes back.

  • Yusuf/Cat Stevens in Boston

by jkbilly on 12/10/14Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Best Concert of my LIFE!! The venue was beautiful and the sound equipment superior and ... Yusuf/Cat Stevens' voice was as strong and clear as it was on my albums so many years ago. Even with the 3500 people in the audience singing along with him we still heard his voice clearly and beautifully. BEST CONCERT!

  • Yusuf/ Cat Stevens concert was an amazing show !!!

by JMCQ4 on 12/10/14Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

This concert was at the top of my bucket list being that Cat Stevens is my favorite musical artist !!! It was so surreal being there and watching him perform live. Yusuf/ Cat Stevens still sounds great now as he did in the 1970's !!! I would give his concert rating a ten or more that is how much I enjoyed it !!! Best concert, loved it !!!

  • Yusif

by Bodiewoo on 12/10/14Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 4 out of 5

Every song received a well deserved standing ovation. I saw Cat in the 70's and he was better than he was then. The backup band was absolutely well balanced. Maybe on purpose a little heavy on the base. A directors choice I'm sure. I've been to a mass of concerts in my time and this rates in the top five without doubt.

  • Amazing Performance... Music Without Propaganda

by ItalianCeltic on 12/10/14Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Yusef Islam/Cat Stevens could have used his platform to proselytize or spew propaganda like Neil Young or Elvis Costello, but he chose to let the music do the talking. It was all about the music and it was fantastic It was an amazing performance. You wouldn't know that Cat Stevens hadn't picked up a guitar for 20 years. It was as good and in some respects better than the 70's. Audio technology is so much better these days.

  • Cat Stevens!!!!!

by blapierre on 12/10/14Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Oh my God! It was amazing. I was waiting to see Cat Stevens for the past 35 years. The man sounds amazing still. If you get a chance to see him then do it. No excuses. Seriously. I also loved he brought no politics to the show. It was all about the music.

  • SO WONDERFUL

by AndieCasey on 12/10/14Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

It was an out-of-the-world experience. His voice is so dreamy - as good as ever. The sound was great. And I am so thankful that he included Boston on his short tour of the USA. I would see him again in a heartbeat.

  • Please come to Boston for the spring time.

by Theresa12345678910 on 12/10/14Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Thank God Cat Stevens came out of retirement - (everyone at the show believed they would never get to see him perform his songs). His voice is perfectly preserved and sounding great. The crowed was so enthusiastic and showed that by several standing ovations. Love Him!!!!! Such a huge part of the soundtrack of our lives.

  • Cat can still scratch!

by siemy on 12/10/14Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Cat has not lost much since the last time I saw him in Boston in 1976. Played a great blend of my old favorites and some new stuff which was quite good. His voice is still resonant and his guitar and piano work top notch. I hope I get to see him again some time in the future!

  • Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam is a magnificent musician.

by EnlightenedCare on 12/10/14Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam is back and as good as or even better than ever! He has found the way to maintain his religious integrity and still bring his fabulous music into the world. Cat Stevens/Yusuf Islam provided us with a great mixture of songs: our favorites from the past, some less well-known songs from the past, some 'covers', and some of his newer work. He was in living relation with his audience to our mutual benefit!

  • Cat Stevens sounded even better than 43 years ago!

by Grinbo on 12/10/14Citi Performing Arts Center Wang Theatre - BostonRating: 5 out of 5

I've waited over 40 years to see Cat Stevens again. I saw him in 1971/72? in Boston at BU. It was fantastic then, even better now! Everyone kept telling me I'd never see him in concert again! He sang every "old" song. GREAT!!!! I hope he comes back soon! I do wish people had adhered to the "no cell phone, video, or pictures" policy! It was quite distracting and no one was enforcing the rule - they should have been kicked out or not even allowed to bring the phones into the building!!! (Like the notice said!) It was rude, and very blatant!
