About

Cat Stevens rose to fame in the swinging '60s with chart-topping pop hits such as "Matthew and Son" and "The First Cut Is the Deepest." His early career was interrupted by a near-fatal battle with tuberculosis - a turning point that ignited his quest for peace and understanding. Emerging from this experience, he rapidly rose to become one of the most prolific singer/songwriter icons of the '70s, captivating the world with soul-stirring anthems such as "Wild World," "Father and Son," "Peace Train," and "Morning Has Broken." His classic albums Mona Bone Jakon, Tea for the Tillerman, and Teaser and the Firecat have earned him a rightful place in both the Rock & Roll Hall of Fame and the Songwriters Hall of Fame.

Following another dangerous encounter with fate and a near-drowning experience in 1975, Cat's life took a spiritual turn as he converted to Islam and changed his name to Yusuf Islam. Leaving the music industry behind, Yusuf dedicated his life to God, family, and humanitarian work, for which he received numerous prestigious international honors, including the World Award for "humanitarian relief work helping children and victims of war" and the Man of Peace Award, voted for by The Nobel Peace Laureates.

The latest chapter is Yusuf's return to music, through which he has re-joined his past and present lives. Now known as Yusuf/Cat Stevens - a name that represents the synergy between the two key periods of his existence - his inspirational story is one of quest, survival, and redemption. With more than 100 million records sold and billions of streams, his soulful voice and poetic lyrics continue to inspire, now intertwined with a life of activism and altruism. As a campaigner for faith education, ecological consciousness, and humanitarian work, Yusuf has become a global advocate for peace and coexistence.

  • Yusuf / Cat Stevens - A DREAM COME TRUE!!!

by Genko on 12/12/14The Chicago Theatre - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

We drove 6 hours to see Yusuf / Cat Stevens LIVE in Concert, and it was a dream come true! I was very impressed by the security for this show, and the professionalism & friendliness of both the security and staff at The Chicago Theatre. The theatre is BEAUTIFUL, and the set was spectacular too! And even though our seats were in the last row of the balcony, the sound was perfect and we felt it was a very intimate performance. It was also great that Yusuf and the theatre crew, waited until everyone in the audience was seated before starting the show. This concert was well worth the wait! The staff was very helpful, the energy was high, and everyone was genuinely happy...and this was true of all the people we met while in Chicago. Thank you for this grand memory, keep up the wonderful work.

Absolutely fabulous! He was amazing! I had the best time. I saw him in 1970 and he was just as great and amazing. Still moved my soul with his beautiful music.

What a great show! Loved all the ol music, and the new. I personally hated the line outside the Chicago,Theater. Took way too long to check people in....not sure if I like that style of ticketing.

  • Yusuf/Cat Stevens - Chicago - 12-9-14

by Dylanized on 12/12/14The Chicago Theatre - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I first saw Cat Stevens in 1970 opening for Traffic - which set me back - 9 miles - his voice - his music - 3 ovations - they wouldn't let him off the stage. The rest is history - then he went his own way. But rattling that music did - about 2005 - and in 2006 - he did a performance private in Britain...broadcast all over Europe. In 2008 - we had the good fortune to see him in Dublin - in what was small tour - testing the waters. 2014 - has brought us full circle - and this concert - was one of the moments - you wish you could hang on to forever. His voice has never been better - the music sounds fresh - and he's singing the blues.... We had a wondrous and magical evening - with this Majikat - that has returned. There is nothing negative to write - I wish I could live through it again. Yusuf/Cat - handling of green tickets only - kept out scalpers and the REAL FANS were in there. We had to wait for him to start - because of the lines - but that was no problem. They played his music gently...

  • An amazing evening of quality music!

  • Cat is God!

    by Lauranne54 on 12/12/14The Chicago Theatre - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Cat Stevens still has it and even more. I have been to a lot of concerts. This was THE BEST concert yet! From our seats in the balcony we could hear every crisp note given to us. Cats voice was as good as it was in the 1970's. What a beautiful show. I felt like I had been to church! So glad to have been there. He played his old Classic songs and some of his newer stuff. I give it a 10!

  • Yusuf - Cat Stevens is so welcome back!

    by Calvin2 on 12/12/14The Chicago Theatre - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

Going into a concert by an aging artist...and one who has spent so much time away from his calling one had to go into the concert with a sense of trepidation. That being said, it turned into an evening of wonder and excitement; felt like an evening with an old and cherished friend. Yusuf was simply wonderful, happy, healthy, sounding good. His newer material is much more muscular than his old very much favorites, going to prove he is not content with stagnancy. But the joy was in the standards, and man what an amazing catalog of songs he has in his pocket. Just fun and at times incredibly moving. The evening was masterful and magical. Could not have expected more. Welcome back, Cat!

The Cat Stevens concert December 9th was amazing. A perfect concert. TheChicagoTheatre was gorgeous, staff were great. Security was tight but not intrusive. Cat Stevens sang his new songs and his old beloved ones and the whole evening was an absolute delight. The most perfect concert and venue I have ever been to.

  • Top 5 nights of my life

by CodyHauber on 12/12/14The Chicago Theatre - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

I am 31 years old and because of my father, I have been a Cat Stevens fan my whole life. I understood the gravity of this concert and how meaningful it was to me, those in attendance, and the rest of the world. I was shaking most of the night out of pure amazement and even broke into tears at a few points. I hope this is more than a once in a lifetime opportunity, but if it is, I'm glad I got to experience it. The only complaint I have is with the ushers. They were literally walking in front of the concertgoers every 10 seconds looking for people recording. I understand they were just doing their jobs, but it was very distracting, especially when they would yell over other people during the show.

  • A night to remember

by highermeru on 12/12/14The Chicago Theatre - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

What an amazing show! If you closed your eyes you would not be able to tell it was the year 2014. You would feel like you were on his last tour 38 years ago. His voice is wonderful. His song selection was excellent. His band was very good and he can still play amazing acoustic guitar that will linger in your ear well after the show is over.

I could write a 1000 word review, but I can sum up the whole evening concert in just one word, MAGICAL!!!

He sounded as he did in 1976 (when I was one years old, but my ecstatic Dad told me so).

  • Cat was Back!!!

by psfilm on 12/12/14The Chicago Theatre - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

It was so great to see Cat/Yusaf performing again after all these years. Such loyal fans that came to see this great artist from all across the country. The songs brought back such great memories of early times. Cat's voice has not changed and the acoustics in this venue were outstanding. I just hope that he will add more cities and dates in 2015!

  • Cat Rocked!

by debdaugy on 12/12/14The Chicago Theatre - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

The show was amazing. Cat sang a lot of his old stuff, but also added some new stuff. The newer songs actually sounded better live than on the records, they had a lot more emotion to them. It was a great show, a once in a lifetime experience.

  • Moment of a lifetime

by Nelsonfam on 12/12/14The Chicago Theatre - ChicagoRating: 5 out of 5

This was absolutely a moment of a lifetime. I have been waiting for Yusuf/Cat Stevens to tour and thought this moment was never going going to happen. When I heard this was happening obsession set in. I was so overjoyed I got tickets and a road trip was on its was. We only drove from Indianapolis to Chicago but talking to people around us the love for Cat Stevens was from New Orleans, Detroit, Kansas etc. On with the show. It was a perfect night. Small band, intimate, perfect. New songs, classic hits. His voice was honestly like butter. Like he had never left the public eye. Like it was 37 years ago. Like the Peace Train had never left the station. He sings your hits like Father&Son, Wild World, First Cut Is The Deepest. You really do leave this show satisfied, happy and hoping he comes back but if he doesn't knowing you are one of the lucky ones that got to see him. My only complaint is security should have chilled out walking up and down the aisles with their flashlights. At the beginning of the concert they said do not use your flash with photos. Which means photos are cool just don't use your flash. When I am watching a concert I don't like cameras up the whole time but the darn security flashing their flashlights the entire time is a whole lot more distracting.
