About YoungBoy Never Broke Again

YoungBoy Never Broke Again in Concert

Attending a live YoungBoy Never Broke Again show is nothing like the family-friendly sports games his former nickname - NBA YoungBoy - might signal. His rowdy onstage performances (complete with members of his entourage) are more akin to unruly, packed house parties with menacing hip-hop and catchy hooks as the playlist. In 2017, the Baton Rouge rapper went on his first multi-city tour, Numb the Pain, headlined by Atlanta rap star 21 Savage. He then bowed his first solo run on the A.I. Youngboy tour to sold-out venues filled with loyal fans. Since, he has stage-dived and crowd-surfed through the festival circuit, thrilling audiences nationwide with his lyrical reflections on his struggles and turbulent upbringing.

YoungBoy Never Broke Again Background

Long before YoungBoy Never Broke Again became one of the most exciting new rappers, he was born Kentrell Gaulden in Baton Rouge, Louisiana. His traumatic childhood experiences would quickly become a hot spring for his future records, an autobiographical collection of melancholic, often violent bars that resonate deeply with his cult-like fan base. After dropping out of high school in 2015, he turned to rap full-time and self-released eight mixtapes with a Walmart-purchased mic. He packed his early music with style influences (and a few features) from fellow Baton Rouge rappers Boosie Badazz and Kevin Gates.

By 2017, YoungBoy was a fast-rising star with the breakout single “Untouchable.” He later signed to Atlantic Records and dropped his debut studio album, Until Death Call My Name. Since, he’s not only released three No. 1-debuting projects, including his 2020 album, Top, but he also became YouTube’s 2019 most-viewed artist in the U.S. His uploads aren’t the flashy clips of a predictable rich celeb, but instead, they are a transparent window into his watch-worthy lifestyle, offered at a rapid-fire pace to intrigue fans.

In his first five years, YoungBoy sharpened his performances at the 2018 Lil WeezyAna Fest and the festival circuit, including Rolling Loud. He also earned a 2019 Hip Hop Award nomination for Impact Track with "I Am Who They Say I Am," featuring Kevin Gates and Quando. He’s also collaborated with in-demand contemporaries like Lil Baby, Lil Durk and 21 Savage.

YoungBoy keeps the spotlight trained on his ascent with his energetic live shows, allowing fans to peer into his real-time mood, which swings from super-lit to stoic depending on the track. Plus, he adds a pop of fun with physical stunts that land him in the crowd among those closest to the stage. Amid his frenetic musical output, he’ll have no shortage of material to perform.

by Awadyous on 9/27/18Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

He didn’t come out till 10 pm when the concert started at 8 and i had to listen to upcoming artist for two hours and watch as security not being able to clear the stage for the main proformer. within 30 min of clearing the stage, he finally comes out and sings 5 songs and ends it at 11 pm, so basically I paid 75 dollars for a ticket plus traveling 110 miles just to see randomn artists and nba young boy for 40 min, ticket master really had to do this to me, I thought they were better

We got there at 8pm (starting time on the ticket) and no one came on stage until 1130!! Completely disrespectful to everyone there. I will never go to another one of his concerts.

NBA youngboy is a waste of your time

by Taylorrr98 on 9/25/18Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

The first 2 hrs and 15 minutes, there was an average dj who played some hits. There were a bunch of SoundCloud type of rappers, rapping on a track. After the 2hrs and 15 minutes we’re over (it’s 10:15 pm now), youngboy played a half hour set and just disappeared from stage. He rapped over a track, very unenthusiastic, poorly produced show with awkward pauses in between each song. Terrible.

    Didn’t meet expectations

by Liltomyeah on 9/25/18Boardwalk Hall - Atlantic City

As a huge fan of youngboy I was disappointed. He showed up late and only performed like 5 songs before leaving stage mid song. Also People in the front section were standing on the seats, completely blocking my view to stage.

He did not perform many songs and had his friends singing. I was not there to see them perform. Security also had trouble keeping fans off the stage.

He left the stage early and didn’t even tell us!

by Miamia90 on 9/19/18MECU Pavilion (formerly Pier Six Pavilion) - Baltimore

Besides the fact that he was super late he came on stage for all of 20 mins and left early without having the decency to tell us he was leaving or why! Waste of money and time! Unprofessional!

Too many opening acts . With the artist finally did come on stage he was on stage for approximate 40minutes. The artist left off stage with no indication that the show was over . Not even thanking his fans for supporting his music in coming out to show him love. NBA young boy , You have to do better. Your fans are what makes you.

    MECU cut him off

by RoyalFatality on 9/18/18MECU Pavilion (formerly Pier Six Pavilion) - Baltimore

We spent 3 hours watching random acts from Baltimore play on the stage. NBA YoungBoy performed for 30 minutes before security cut his mic off and told him the concert was over. None of this was communicated with the crowd. They cut the lights on and told everyone to leave without explanation. NBA YoungBoy performance was amazing but 5 songs was a waste of money!

The concert needed an age limit. There were too many little kids. Personally I went to see young boy not anybody else so it dragged a bit much for me. Loved young boys performance though. Didn’t like how they just ended it with no warning. That was very unprofessional.

I initially took my little brother (13 years old) and little cousin (16 years old), they are the fans. I'm not a big fan of the whole entourage being on stage but overall, for his category of music it is to be expected. I hate that they cut the show and he didn't finish. My brother wanted to hear more music instead of the 4(I think) that he did. I liked the fact that there were a lot of kids there, despite the smoking. I will say he is very crowd oriented which is good.
