About

With four Grammy awards and eight million albums sold worldwide, Yolanda Adams is considered one of the greatest gospel performers of her era, achieving a level of success outside of her genre that few other gospel artists have experienced. After singing in several local Houston choirs as a child, Adams made her debut as a solo artist in 1988 with Just As I Am. The album was initially criticized for its fusion of jazz with traditional gospel, but the unique sound soon became her trademark. She hangs with the best while on tour, making worldwide stops throughout her career and performing to sold-out arenas of thousands of ticket holders. Her style is considered one of the bases for modern gospel, with its fusion of jazz, traditional gospel and rhythm and blues. Some of her live concert performances, such as Live in Washington, have gone on to become Grammy-winning performances. In 2011, she released her 11th studio album, Becoming, to critical acclaim.

Adams initially captured the attention of gospel labels when she debuted as a lead singer with Houston's Southeast Inspirational Choir. After her debut album took off, so, too, did her professional career, culminating with her most famous single, "The Battle is The Lord's". Her album, Mountain High...Valley Low, would earn Adams her first Grammy Award and a Dove Award. Along with several national honors, her career has been so genre-defining that in 2009, Billboard Magazine named her Best Gospel Artist of the Last Decade.

    The concert was a disapointment

by KK on 5/13/24Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

I had been waiting for this concert for months. Yolanda Adams is my favorite female gospel singer. I have always wanted to see her in person. They had technical difficulties before the concert ever began. She did a great job with what she had to work with. The acoustics were terrible. The bass was so loud that you could not hear the singers that came after her. I like all the singers that came after her but it was Yolanda that I truly came to see. It was a hot mess the groups had to rush because of time. I am not sure that I want to return to the Foxx in the future. My husband paid a lot of money so that I would have good seats. It was such a disappointment. I made the best of it.

    Horrible

by Kathy on 5/13/24Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

I am very dissatisfied with the concert. This was false advertisement. I came by myself and the headline made it seem as though Yolanda Adam's was not the headliner. I left when she left off stage. I was quite biased. I want a REFUND

    Great Concert!

by Kia on 5/13/24Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

Yolanda did awesome job very anointed but it seems like when other artist came up to perform they were having technical difficulties. The sound system was off. I felt like Tye Tribbett didn’t get enough time to perform I was looking forward seeing him perform the. The other male gospel artist.

    Technical Issues with Sound

by D- on 5/13/24Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

From the very beginning there were technical difficulties with the sound. During John P Kee the music/instruments drowned out the vocals. It was not enjoyable, but disappointing. The program started late due to technical issues and the venue did not extend the end time. The performance time for each of the singers was cut short. The venue should have extended the time to compensate for the late start. Tickets were expensive and we felt we got cheated. (Not the fault of the singers).

    Totally disappointed

by Mama Mann on 5/13/24Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

Yolanda needed backup singers , couldn’t understand one word from JP Key Hezekiah Walker was the best performer by far and we left before Ty tribute came on. I couldn’t dream of watching him jump all over the stage and incoherently 😩😩😩

    It was just alright

by Tar Parr on 5/13/24Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

I feel that Yolanda Adams took up too much time singing all of her songs that the others could not get a chance to perform more songs! Namely, John P Kee! He was the reason why I attended the concert and for his performance to be cut short because of the time restraint was just not fair!

    Awesome

by Bosprat on 5/13/24Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

I enjoyed Yolanda’s praise when she glorified God for His goodness, grace and mercy. She lifted God up very gracefully. Yolanda is just a stone cold singer.

Could have been much better. Everyone time was cut short, because they could not get the sound right. Love all the artists wish my first time seeing them live would have been a better experience

by Sjones on 5/13/24Fox Theatre Detroit - Detroit

The show started late, Yolanda Adam’s was the first performer which was odd since she was the headliner, Tye only did 3 songs, sounds were terrible just a major disappointment

    Great Show

by JustMe on 6/24/23Colonial Life Arena - Columbia

I wouldn't recommend getting floor seats due to how very close and uncomfortable the seating was. We were packed like sardines. But aside from that, it was a good experience

    Poor Sound System

by SheLa on 6/21/23Colonial Life Arena - Columbia

We couldn’t hear the lyrics due to the poor sound system. Also there were no Jumbotrons therefore we couldn’t see the performers. This show did not meet my expectations at all. The hosts played A LOT and it took away from the show.
