Ticketmaster online was not simple-confusing to transfer ticket to I-phone. Ticket prices vastly different from published price-$140 each for last row, first 2 tickets, fartherest spot from Ya Ya Mo.
We went to see the concert at Chrysler Hall in Norfolk Va. While the content of the concert was amazing, we were unable to enjoy it. We had a three year old child in front of us that was distracting and badly behaved. Why isn’t there an age limit on children. Who brings a three year old to a YoYo Ma Concert? The parent was in and out with the child and every time they came back, the child misbehaved. If that wasn’t bad enough, my husband had a teenager literally sleeping on his shoulder. The parents had to take his gameboy away so he fell asleep…on my husband. We left at intermission. I bought the tickets as a birthday present. With the prices I paid, you would think that Chrysler Hall would have ensured that toddlers would be left at home.
Parking was easy on entrance and exit. Venue was easy to find and well coordinated. The concert itself was outstanding. Missed hearing some classical Bach but it was wonderful nonetheless.
What a magical night!! The musicians were amazing, entertaining, witty and endearing!
I was worried about the traffic for a downtown venue, but it was a breeze. The Ascend/Live Nation staff was more than cordial. The audience was Nashville Symphony/Americana, so everyone used intelligence for social distancing and politeness. (People actually asked if they were going to obscure the view before they picked out their space on the lawn.) The music was wonderful, but how can you go wrong with Stuart Duncan, Yo Yo Ma, John Mayer, Aoife O'Donovan and Chris Thiele? They did not disappoint and made the performance seem as intimate as being held in a tiny auditorium.or listening room. Best of all, the exit traffic control flowed seamlessly even though we were leaving a nearby garage. So I arrived home in record time and totally relaxed. I'm still smiling!
Was disappointed that Yo-Yo Ma was just a part of a country/bluegrass/jazz string quartet. Would have preferred to have hear more from him. We didn't even know any of the other musicians. Ascend Amphitheater as a venue was excellent.
Friday night was incredible. To think Yo-Yo can not only play Bach's six cello suites but play them all from memory is mind boggling! His performance is truly incredible. And, he is a wonderful human being. It doesn't get any better than this!
Six Bach cello suites, a man and his cello. That's really all you need to know about this unforgettable concert. Yo-Yo Ma brought Bach to life with his incredible musicianship and warm humanity. He is as warm and engaging with the audience as he is with his cello. I will never miss an opportunity to hear him play if I can help it.
Performance was everything you expect, as was his connection to audience and community.
This was the most meaningful musical experience of my life. It touched my heart in a way it's never been touched before. The performance was magical. The audience was wonderful. I really don't have the words to describe how it lifted me. Mr. Ma is a wonderfully down to earth genius and I'm so grateful to have seen him in concert.
This was the best concert ever. Yo Yo Ma even did an encore performance. The best!!! A once in a lifetime experience.
Atlanta Symphony, amazing! Yo-Yo Ma, awesome! Yo-Yo Ma doing only one solo, disappointing.
I was at the concert with 2 friends for my birthday. Just as conductor was starting first number, a patron in the next section fell down some steps. I so wanted the music to stop until the injured individual was cared for by the medics, and the commotion was over, Then we could have enjoyed all of the music. The music was fabulous, but sound system for speaking voices-as conductor describing upcoming numbers- was very hard to hear and understand from the balcony.
It was just fascinating and I hope they will have a concert in the same place in close future.
Exceptional musicians playing extraordinary music. Reminds us of the rich folk music heritage at the world's crossroads.
After having seen the movie: Music of Strangers, I was thrilled to see the Silk Road Ensemble in person. Every musician is truly a gifted artist. I loved the complexity of each piece and it was a real joy to hear music and musical instruments from around the world.
Each and everyone in the ensemble is a great musician and performer. They brought so much life to the concert. I had great time!
This event coincided with the closing ceremony of Rio Olympics and made me think about the world peace through their wonderful music. The Silk Road Ensemble has music talents from 15 countries and those unique musical instruments touched the audience in harmony. I think most of the people came to listen to Yo-Yo Ma, but he stayed a part of the ensemble and never put himself forward. A couple more solo performances from him would be welcomed, I'm sure. I love their "Silk Road Journeys: Beyond the Horizon" CD and wanted to listen to more from this CD. It's an open air concert, so outside noise cannot be avoided, but for the first 20 minutes of the show the sound quality wasn't very good. It got better in the latter half of the concert.
extraordinary talents playing some amazing and unusual instruments; terrific arrangements.
