    An Icon

by Nancy on 12/5/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

Had to park 3 blocks away. Longest line ever to get into a show. Amazing performance, especially imagining him playing Brahms complicated piece at age 5. Hawaiian performers gave good break. We are thankful we saw this master but would not go again.

Loved listening to legendary Yo Yo Ma!

by Betty808 on 12/4/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

To have our youth be inspired by experiencing live performance of Yo yo ma was priceless. Having to wait to enter the gate with 30-45 minutes wait time and miss the first 20 minutes his performance was frustrating. Disappointed that we had to listen to self righteous Hawaiian activists during his performance was so not necessary. I bought the tickets to see yo yo ma not to be culturally chastised for the past we had no control over.

    Yo-Yo Ma

by BOB on 12/4/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

Yo-Yo Ma was awesome. Your price gouging on tickets is totally despicable. I hope you lose in court.

Incredible evening outdoors with YoYo Ma

by NS on 12/4/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

YoYo Ma’s concert was fabulous. He makes playing his chello look effortless and the sound is perfect and oh so beautiful. He was truly amazing. I wish it didn’t have to end.

    Bach and Yo Yo Ma

by Goof on 12/4/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

Excellent cellist. I really enjoyed the concert for about the first 90 minutes. After that Bach cello suites start to sound a lot alike. Using the native Hawaiian folks to break up the suites was a great idea. I was astounded at how much music he has memorized.

    Oversold

by Boni on 12/4/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

It was a great concert. It was great mix of Yoyoma and Hawaiian art. We really enjoyed it. However the lawn was way oversold and uncomfortable. The people kept coming and interrupting everyone. The gates should have been locked after the concert started. It was a stream of people through out the entire concert.

    Great performance, bad organization

by ST on 12/4/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

The concert was great once I got in. Whoever did the organizing did a poor job. I showed up on time, but it was nearly impossible to find parking. I had to park quite a bit away and walk. The worst part, though, was the line to get in. It was super long and slow. I waited in line for about 30 min and then we hear a worker yelling "there's another line over here that no one is in." A crowd of people rushed to the other line. We got in but by that time we'd missed at least 45 min of the show. A know people who had tickets, but gave up trying to find parking or waited in line and decided that at the rate we were going would miss the concert anyway, so left. All those people should get a refund.

    Great Performance if...

by Rick on 12/4/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

What more can you say about Yo Yo Ma? Nice touch of mixing Hawaiian culture with Yo Yo Ma's performance. Only glaring problem was the long line of people hoping to get in at the start of the program. I'm sure you will get lots of feedback, especially from those 100's who missed the opening number. Fix it!

Tons of many people arrive late while show is going on.

by STM on 12/4/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

Show was great. Of course Yo-yo Ma ! But get to waikiki shel. Traffic was so crazy. People can not find parking spots. All the way to Around diamond head area traffic was just mess. Because of that so many people could not enter before show start. While I was enjoying show so many people walked through in front of my eye sight to get their own sheets. (After whole start 40min at least was like this) It was super ANNAYING especially for classical music show u want to concentrate for music. Liked I can save my tickets in my iPhone wallet!

Wonderful night of beautiful weather and music!

by Mangoman on 12/4/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

We had great seats in the 11th row and could see and hear the master himself. Awesome experience

    Too many people!

by Jxylil on 12/4/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

The tickets for this event were way oversold. Inclusion is great, but the Symphony sold these tickets as if there were infinite space on the lawn. The result was hundreds of people standing, not enough parking, and people still in line to enter 30 minutes after the concert had started. The number of people present was about double the comfortable capacity of Waikiki Shell, and allowing so many people in ruined the concert for everyone. Shame on you for allowing this to happen!

    Almost perfect

by MamaB on 12/4/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

Loved it! I didn’t give it five stars though because it wasn’t until after the concert that I found the program and the names of the Hawaiian artists and completely understood the context of the performance. Having this information before the concert would have added greatly to my enjoyment. A link to the info in the ticket purchase confirmation email would have been a great way to disseminate the info.

    Fantastic performance, lighting challenge

by Cindy on 12/4/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

Yo Yo Ma was extraordinary in his music virtuoso, connecting with the people and the 'aina. The lightiing for our section, and much of the front right section was such that there were two or three giant, glaring lights shining from our left, and since the stage center was left, one could not look at the stage without that intense glare. I hope it is resolvable to come up with different lighting for future events.

45 minute wait on sidewalk outside as concert started

by Sammy on 12/4/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

Arrived outside Shell at 7:25, (show started 7:30), only to have to join a queue going around the block. No signage or ushers. For 45 minutes we moved slowly toward the entrance to the venue, finally entering without incident well into the performance. HSO orchestra member says it was hard to find employees to work the door to this sold-out event, but hell, call me! I’d have worked for free! The concert itself was beyond perfect, …but who WERE those Hawaiian chanters, dancers, and poet? Not credited anywhere I could find, or can find now.

Long line need more ticket and bag checkers

by d. n. on 12/4/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

We waited in line for 40 mins to get into the venue. They only had two bag checkers and two ticket checkers. The Waikiki Shell needs speakers that reach the loan area and the screen should be bigger maybe a drop down above the front of the stage. These are issues with the organizers and venue. Yo Yo Ma was incredible!

    Fabulous music, terrible crowd management

by Amal on 12/4/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

The music was exceptional and inspiring. We arrived an hour before the concert was to begin and it took us over an hour to find parking, 15 mins away from the venue. When we wanted to enter, the line wrapped around the Royal Hawaiian band lot and into Paki St. It took another 30 minutes to enter the Shell. If you have a soldout crowd, you need to manage the venue better.

    Yo Yo Ma is extraordinary!

by Island Lady on 12/4/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

Worth the terribly long wait but so annoying that one can no longer picnic in the Shell. The Hawaiian touches were excellent and appropriate.

Maestro Yo Yo Ma was magnificent but I don’t care for Bach

by Sundance on 12/4/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

Unfortunately I did not care for his selection of Bach classics to play, i would have preferred Mozart or Puccini or even Vivaldi.

    Terrible pre-concert organization

by John on 12/4/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

We arrived early, ar 6:45 pm for 7:30pm show. Due to the massive line that formed we didnt get to our seats until 8pm and missed half an hour the show. The Shell has to hire more people and open up more entry points, especially when checking bags which is now routine and happens at all shows. Suggestion: hire 10 more people and open up two more entry lines at another side of the Shell. It is too congested as there is only one entry point which is absurd. Terrible organization by the Shell. The concert iself was great.

Yo Yo Ma at the Shell Waikiki

by Mia on 12/4/22Tom Moffatt Waikiki Shell - Honolulu

There was poor planning on the city and county’s part! They were no clear signs for the public to enter the event. We were at the parking one hour before the start of the concert but the traffic was chaos and we stood in line for 35 minutes and it was 8:20 when we actually arrived.
