Formed in 1968 by Jon Anderson and the late, and much-missed, Chris Squire, YES have been one of the most innovative, influential and best-loved bands in rock music history. Their 1970s albums The Yes Album, Fragile, Close To The Edge, Yessongs (a triple live album set), Tales From Topographic Oceans, Relayer and Going For The One were ground-breaking in musical style and content. Their music also became synonymous with artist Roger Dean whose distinctive YES logo design and artwork adorned the lavish gatefold presentation sleeves of many YES albums.

With sales of over 50 million records, the Grammy-award winning YES were inducted into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2017 where they performed Roundabout from the album Fragile and the FM radio-friendly Owner Of A Lonely Heart from the 1985 album 90125.

    Yes and Asia rocked!

by progfan on 7/3/09The Warfield - San Francisco

Better than expected. They both (Yes,Asia) still got it! Howe continues to bring it, Squire reigns supreme. New additions work well, singer...Great, Wakeman needs more time to show his talent (Was not featured much at all). Asia - Carl Palmer...Outstanding!!!!!

    ASIA as usual ROCKED!

by Anonymous on 7/3/09The Warfield - San Francisco

ASIA always amazes, John Wetton's voice, strong as ever...Carl Palmer is just about the best drummer on earth, Steve Howe is a guitar god and Jeff Downes keeps it all together! As for YES, well the lead singer who replaced Jon Anderson needs to tone down his jumping and wear clothing that does not make him look like a circus clown. I felt like I was watching a tribute band. Grow your hair, and fit in will ya? Seats were superb, always at the Warfield, great place for live music. ROCK ON!

    Something Key was Missing

by Spacement on 7/3/09The Warfield - San Francisco

Last night was my 8th time seeing Yes in the past 25 years and I can honestly say it was far from their best moment. The absence of Jon Anderson definitely shows. The Jon Anderson-less Drama album is one of my favorite Yes albums, so I went in with an open mind. Benoit David does a fine job singing the songs, although it seemed to me his voice was higher than Jon's ever was even in his prime. What turned me off more was watching someone try and act like Jon (even wore practically the same outfit Jon wore at one show in the past). I would have enjoyed the show more had Benoit been himself and not a wanna-be Jon. As for the music, I thought Yes was the loosest I have ever heard them. I'm not a stickler for perfection and I enjoy the occasional train wreck but it felt more like a half-hearted performance than what I've seen in the past from these guys. To sum it all up, more often than not I felt like I was watching a Yes tribute band with special guests Howe, Squire, and White instead of watching Yes with a new vocalist and keyboardist.

    Speachless

by SpeachlessInBrentwood on 7/3/09The Warfield - San Francisco

Starting with Asia... What can I say? Words cannot describe it! Not only did they play the most well know pieces of their repertioire (ending the show with Heat of the Moment), but played also some themes from their older bands! Imagine hearing, again live, In the court of the crimson king and the ELP/Asia rendition of Fanfarre for a Common Man!!! The Palmer solo was jaw dropping. Yes! Yes! OMG! Yes! Ecstatic, orgasmic, moments! Starting with songs from Close to the edge, it could not be better. Songs from Drama and 90210, and themes like Roundabout, made the show something I would like to see again! I would have liked to hear some Tormato music, but nothing is perfect, right?

    YES, YES, YES!

    by rocker on 7/2/09Snoqualmie Casino-Ballroom - Snoqualmie

Sounds a lot better than no, no, no, doesn't it! Great show. Asia was very entertaining and did a great job on King Crimson's "Court". Wetton's voice was strong! Yes was tight and Benoit has an incredible voice like Jon back in the day. Oliver was strong on keyboards. Steve still has all his chops and lots of energy. Chris's voice was as strong as his bass playing. And, Alan what can I say other than FANTASTIC! A good time was had by all.

    Yes and no

    by alanpgregory on 7/2/09Snoqualmie Casino-Ballroom - Snoqualmie

the venue at the casino was very intamate, seating about 1000 people. asia started and did all their biger hits.the crowd was pleased, but the crowd was there for yes. after asia played their songs, the crowd gave polite applause. when yes came on ,the crowd became alive with anticipation. they played songs from the early years,i think the latest song was from Close to the edge album. the replacement singer was ok,but lacked the front-man expierience of Jon anderson. Even Chris squire seemed out of place being co-frontman. rick wakemans son,was certainly a talented musician, but hardly an entertainer.at time he just stood ,hands at side barely making a move.his inexpieriance in front of a crowd showed. overall,i am a rabid fan having seen them every tour since 1973. as with all forms of entertainment, there are good and bad shows.this one was between good and bad.

Benoit David sounds like a young Jon Anderson. Everybody is getting older and I was happy to see Yes again. Well worth the trip and cost.

    Bringing back the memories

    by Bill47 on 7/1/09Snoqualmie Casino-Ballroom - Snoqualmie

Asia and Yes both did very well last night. Asia got - by far - the most rousing response when they covered "Fanfare" - an Aaron Copeland tune that was famously adapted by Emerson Lake & Palmer so many years ago. While my wife and I both thoroughly enjoyed ourselves, the older band members are clearly past their prime - the vocals not as powerful, the moves not so athletic but the enthusiasm was there - and that made all the difference.

    phenomenal evening!

    by yodel on 7/1/09Snoqualmie Casino-Ballroom - Snoqualmie

I can't say enough good things about this concert! Always have been a YES fan , have seen them several times over the past few decades and I was not in any way disappointed in this incredible collection of talented musicians. Alan White was terrific as always and Oliver Wakeman was good. Squire and Howe were fabulous! They are so talented but something about this performance just transcended even that to make it so much more. The joy they all take in performing really came through. Benoit David was wonderful, and while I would have preferred to see and hear Jon Anderson I don't think anyone attending this concert would have given up the opportunity to hear an evening of unbelievable YES songs performed so well . It was just all around fantastic! If you are also an Asia fan then you have double the reasons to be thrilled with this show. They were also amazing, played a great, tight set and performed an entertaining and memorable collection of songs. Don't hesitiate on the opportunity to see this concert!

Only went because my boyfriend's favorite band in the world is yes! Didn't realize I knew so many songs by Asia. Came away with a new appreciation for both bands. How does Steve Howe go full on for nearly 3 1/2 hours straight??? Amazing!

Yes Asia 06 30 09 everything and more.

    by Sarcastrow on 7/1/09Snoqualmie Casino-Ballroom - Snoqualmie

So, you’re thinking, “Yes without Jon, no way!” Way. They were great last night. Oliver Wakeman, who we met after the show, is talented, capable, and fits in like a puzzle piece. He’s also quite charming, just like his dad, who, as I pointed out to him, he looks remarkably like. Go figure. David Benoit is a revelation. My wife said that sometimes she closed her eyes and there was no perceptible difference between the many times we have heard Jon and last night’s show, I have to agree. We got several tunes that I had never heard performed and a nice selection from the classic catalogue. You will not be disappointed. Asia we had never seen. There are three surprises in the set that I will not spoil. It’s worth the price of the ticket just for that. They played a very full hour long set, and left us wanting more, though with Steve pulling double duty as lead guitar for both bands, I can see where 3 hours work is about all a guy substantially older than my 50 years can handle on a regular basis. If they come near you, go. You will not be sorry.

not as good as we are used to

    by oscarsillo on 7/1/09Snoqualmie Casino-Ballroom - Snoqualmie

Asia showed that they have been playing together a lot during the last couple of years. Whether you like their music or not you'll se that they are a very tight band. Each player knows his role and they enjoy playing together. The same can't be said for Yes. Even though Steve Howe was awesome and the new singer was really good, the rest of the band sounded kind of lost at moments. Chris Squire had several big mistakes. He singlehandedly destroyed Tempus Fugit and parts of Heart of the sunrise. It seems that Yes needed more rehearsal time and more concentration

    Yes / Asia - - great combination

    by Afliguy on 7/1/09Snoqualmie Casino-Ballroom - Snoqualmie

I've probably seen YES more times than any one band - and they did not disappoint. While I've always liked listening to Asia, I had never seen them live and in my humble opinion - they stole the show. YES, with their new lead singer and keyboard player played a lot of their big hits and a few obscure tunes - and all were very nice to listen to. The new Lead Singer (Benoit David) from Canada was great. A blind guy might not have even noticed Jon Anderson wasn't on stage. While in my opinion he has a better voice all around - he didn't quite seem to have the range that Anderson had. I hope Jon Anderson is able to make a comeback some day. Asia with, as Chris Squire put it, the hardest working man in the music industry - Steve Howe was fantastic. Great song selection and stage appeal made me glad I wasn't late for the opening act. I can't wait for them to tour again - It'll be on my list of shows to see in 2010.

low light the buffet, highlight DRAMA material!

    by squirtacious on 7/1/09Snoqualmie Casino-Ballroom - Snoqualmie

Snoqualmie casino. Boy they sure are ruining that neighborhood. Beautiful place though. The seating for the buffet took so long that we only had time to scarf down one plate of dry fish, dry chicken and tough prime rib. For $22 not happy. Onto the show, Asia sounded good. John Wetton can still sing. Yes, in the absense of Jon Anderson finally played some Drama stuff(I've waited almost 30 years for that) Oliver Wakeman was just a hired hand. No solo or attention focused on him at all. Benoit sounds great(just like Jon). No epic pieces but a good span of catolog. Chrises bass died at the intro to tempus fugit so Steve played some interlude picken while we waited for the guitar change. This was the most "pop" set I've ever seen. These guys need to get back into the studio. I need to hear some new material.

YES and Asia were absolutely amazing!!!!

    by dktwin on 7/1/09Snoqualmie Casino-Ballroom - Snoqualmie

Usually an opening band will play a few songs and then on to the main show. Asia played for an hour! They were fantastic. We had a small intermission and on to YES which was a little over two hours long. Talk about a band that can play! Both band's acoustics were phenomenal as they kept the audience entertained with their music and wit. If you haven't heard them live, you need to!!! YES with Asia is a must for anyone that enjoys keyboard synthesizers and guitars (of any kind).

Oliver was perfect.Beniot captured the vocals....although I miss Jon's presence! Sound was much better than five years ago in Seattle. Great venue as well.

    Asia/Yes - Tired

    by kingkription64 on 7/1/09Snoqualmie Casino-Ballroom - Snoqualmie

Having seen Yes several times before, perhaps I am a little jaded. Nevertheless, I was a bit less than impressed with the show. Judging from other reviews, I may be in the minority here. So, take this review as it is; my subjective experience. I have never really been a fan of Asia. When their debut hit back in '82 I had such high hopes. However, the "popification" of prog rock was in full swing at this time. At any rate, Asia's show was an OK experience for me. The audience was very enthusiastic and supportive. My favorite piece was "Fanfare For The Common Man." The guys really let loose on this one. Yes' set began shortly after and pretty much began as they have numerous times before (Firebird opening, Siberian Khatru). Benoit David has done a very admirable job filling in for Jon Anderson. In my opinion, he sounds like Jon in his prime. I had some high expectations, looking forward to hearing "Tempus Fugit" and "Machine Messiah" from DRAMA; a Yes album that is polarizing among fans but one that has always been one of my favorites. Aside from Chris' minor bass meltdown that resulted in a false start on "Tempus Fugit," I was quite disappointed in the execution of this song. The studio cut has this vital, driving energy to it - largely because of Chris Squire's propelling bass line. This live version felt lifeless and muddy. Chris' bass sounded so overly processed by a flanger that there was no sense of that crucial drive or attention to the pulse. The band didn't gel on this tune at all. "Machine Messiah," however, was much more together. Good job on this tune. The overall sound was muddy and often revealed a lack of cohesiveness. This may be no fault of the band as the sound men may need to bear responsibility. Steve Howe mentioned something in passing after the show about some problems with the monitors. Speaking of Steve Howe, he was the most animated and enthusiastic I've seen him in years. Kuddos to Steve for giving it 110%. Overall, a somewhat disappointing experience for me. I was involved in a "Meet & Greet" opportunity after the show which I will elaborate on. DISCLAMER - TICKETMASTER BEARS NO RESPONSIBILITY FOR THE "MEET & GREET." I PURCHASED THIS PACKAGE THROUGH ANOTHER VENDOR. HOWEVER, I FEEL THAT MY EXPERIENCE MAY BE INFORMATIVE TO OTHERS. Following the show, the six of us who purchased "Meet & Greet" packages were informed to meet next to the left side of the stage. We would be escorted to a "green room" where we would get the opportunity to meet Yes, get autographs and a photo with the band. After a brief delay we were escorted to the green room where Steve Howe, Benoit David and Oliver Wakeman awaited our arrival. Alan White and Chris Squire arrived shortly thereafter. Now, since I paid quite a bit for the Meet & Greet package (ca. $250), I really expected the chance to briefly speak to the band members. I was greatly disappointed. With the exception of Benoit David and Oliver Wakeman, who were genuinely gracious and appreciative of the fans, the other members, while not overtly rude, were less than enthused to engage in conversation. Granted, I understand that the band had to be tired (especially Steve who did double duty with Asia), but the six of us forked out some considerable money for this opportunity. When I attempted to engage band members, there was no eye contact or attempt at reciprocation. As we attempted our photos with the band, one member constantly complained that the photos needed to move along quicker as the band was exhausted. Really makes the fans feel important, doesn't it? Again, I understand that the band was tired. But, many of us work hard jobs too. As a teacher, I'm required to put on my best face for evening events even after a long day. I would suggest that in the future, "Meet & Greet" functions occur BEFORE the concert. I would also like to remind the band that their fans are their "bread & butter." The "Meet & Greet" was a learning experience. I will not put out the money for another one again. P.S. Our host who did his best to make our experience a positive one, had a lot to manage that night. No fault should lie with him. In fact, my thanks for putting up with the headaches and doing his best for us.
