Formed in 1968 by Jon Anderson and the late, and much-missed, Chris Squire, YES have been one of the most innovative, influential and best-loved bands in rock music history. Their 1970s albums The Yes Album, Fragile, Close To The Edge, Yessongs (a triple live album set), Tales From Topographic Oceans, Relayer and Going For The One were ground-breaking in musical style and content. Their music also became synonymous with artist Roger Dean whose distinctive YES logo design and artwork adorned the lavish gatefold presentation sleeves of many YES albums.

With sales of over 50 million records, the Grammy-award winning YES were inducted into The Rock And Roll Hall Of Fame in 2017 where they performed Roundabout from the album Fragile and the FM radio-friendly Owner Of A Lonely Heart from the 1985 album 90125.

    Steve Howe Double Time

by andyman on 7/5/09The Warfield - San Francisco

both Asia and Yes were amazing... the show at the Warfield was so good that I had to go to see it again the next night at the Mt. Winery... I preferred the Warfied show for different reasons... for Asia, I was so surprised on how well they sounded... Steve Howe played with precision and feeling... I was 10ft in front of him... John Wetton was outstanding too... what a voice!! BRAVO to John... Geoffe Downs and Carl Palmer were both playing fantastic and they seemed to be enjoying the show too... a GReat Set!! the Warfield was much better than at the Winery, the sound was the BIG difference... not enough bass or volume... loved the Warfield Show!! YES played OK at the Warfield but sounded great and inspired at the Mt. Winery... Steve Howe again was the best!! words like "genius and virtuoso" are words that describe his guitar playing... Chris Squire was also great on both nights... singer "Benny" and Oliver Wakeman were fine, but not their best performances... what happened to Alan White?? he seemed to have a tough time keeping up with the powerful sound of Yes music... he did much better at the Winery but it was bad at the Warfield... I love the music but pls no more Roundabout or Lonely Heart... they were both fantastic nights and I've been listening to my Yes CDs every since the shows...

    Yes/Asia Snoqualmie Casino show

    by YESFAN71 on 7/5/09Snoqualmie Casino-Ballroom - Snoqualmie

This was the 17th time seeing Yes in one form or another since they Opened for ELP back in 1971 at the Chicago Auditorium Theatre. What a treat to see them in an intimate setting like the New Snoqualmie Casino venue. Asia was Great and surprised us with "Video Killed the Radio Star", "In the Court of the Crimson King" & "Fanfare for the Common Man" , beyond the Top hits from earliest to the latest "Extraordinary Life". Yes gave up "Tempus Fugit" "Machine Messiah" and a wonderful jam on "Astral Traveler" with the Seattle Seahawks Drum corp!! Wildly Fun!! Thanks again gents for the "wonderous stories"! Keep Them Coming!!

    unexpectedly fantastic!

by HaightAshbury on 7/5/09The Warfield - San Francisco

As soon as we realized John Anderson was not going to be performing we were thinking "oh no" the show is going to be bad. ( We had purchased the "Meet and Greet" package.) We were 100% wrong. Steve, Chris and Alan were superb in there performance. amazingly they still put on a great show and sound awesome. Benoit David was great and made us not miss John Anderson. He really sounds good. ( they are lucky to have found him, the "YES sound" is still there) What a nice person he was backstage also. Thank you. Oliver Wakeman - this guy is phenomenal ! I hate to say it, but as my son said "he is as good or better then his dad" it is true. sorry Rick but he is your son. My son even had Oliver sign his dads "Journey to the Center of the Earth" old vinyl. He also was great backstage. Thank you! Chris Squire and Alan White were also great backstage, Thanks guys. This brings me to my only disappointment and it really has nothing to do with the show. I bought the " Meet & Greet" for my son and I, because it was his 16th birthday. Yes he does list "Yes" as one of his top bands. My son is a guitar player (4yrs only) and really idolizes Steve Howe. Steve Howe is one of the "GREATEST" we wanted to "MEET and GREET" but it must have been a bad day for him because he let us down by acting like he did not want to be there or "MEET" with us. We laughed after and agreed he gets a pass cause he put on a great show with both bands all night! GREAT SHOW! Remember Steve you are good but the sound will burn out like a candle if the kids don't pick it up. Its hard to find good music these days. it has changed so much i am lucky that my son listens and plays the stuff i grew up with.

Tight sound by the veteran bands

by lumpie on 7/5/09The Warfield - San Francisco

This was a thoroughly enjoyable show at a classic venue. Yes, especially Steve Howe, are looking older than their 60-62 years, but they are still sounding like themselves in younger days. Benoit David did a good job on vocals, and brought a touch of youth to the band. I was disappointed when I heard Jon Anderson was not going to be there, but I didn't miss him much after the first few songs (that is no slight intended for Jon, just praise for Benoit). We were very close to the stage, and my only recommendation is that Chris Squire should wear some underwear. They mined a good selection of their catalog, with the only Rabin era tune being the obligatory "Owner". I am a fan of the Rabin era as well as the 70's era, but the band doesn't seem to do that song justice anymore, and they might as well leave it out of the set if they aren't really into it, because it shows. It was a first time for me to see Asia, and I was pleasantly surprised. John Wetton was in very good voice, and I enjoyed the varied set list with included some sweet surprises from The Buggles, ELP and King Crimson. Even with a new album out they stuck to the well known stuff and only one new cut. I was only disappointed with their acoustic version of Don't Cry, which is a very powerful song with full instrumentation.

YES, ASIA The Warfield San Francisco

by Rosen on 7/4/09The Warfield - San Francisco

It was great show. Steve Howe who had played both band did a really worked well. ASIAstill performed Buggles, King Crimson and ELP songs - these are important part of ASIA shows these days but because of limitted time, they could have performed other ASIA materials. YESplayed from various periods od song which I doubt Jon would sing. The new singer Benoit David was amazing - he fitted very well with YES.He also perfomed fromn Drama materials. Steve Howe also didn't ming playing "The Owner Of A Lonley Heart." The package of ASIA and YES are amazing. If you want to see real prog rocks, these are shows you should go.

Asia Rocked, Yes needs a new keyboard player

by MCSSF on 7/4/09The Warfield - San Francisco

Asia was great as usual, very tight, played lots of old Asia favorites along with some king crimson, video killed the radio star, etc. Yes was good, and played lots of old favorites too. The new singer, is awsome, great voice, nice stage presence. However, Wakeman's son needs to woodshed in a serious way, he was dragging the songs and messing up the other musicians. A couple of songs just fell apart in the middle, losing rhythm and direction. Should be better later in the tour, I hope. The old guys in the band were amazing as always.

Yes was polished. Carl Palmer a standout in Asia.

by skag on 7/4/09The Warfield - San Francisco

The new Yes lineup handled all songs played with a legitimate sound. There were no gaffs or vocal miscues that I could detect. Benoit David covered Jon Anderson's vocals very well, showed exceptional range and brought youth and energy to the group.

    YES Indeed!

by phohst on 7/4/09The Warfield - San Francisco

(Mr. Christopher Squire, Steve Howe, Alan White, Benoit David, Oliver Wakeman) My first experience at The Warfield, and I took the opportunity to stand right up front, less than 15 feet from the performers, which was a real treat. My first YES experience was in New York in 1984 on the 90125 tour when the band were younger than I am now. I remember it being a very good show, with Squire all decked out in regal robes. My most recent YES experience was at the Flint Center at DeAnza College in Cupertino, CA several years ago. That show was mesmerizing. Jon and Rick were in that lineup and the entire band played a technically flawless show that was absolutely brilliant. Very odd that the audience sat in silence the entire performance, until the two encores. Perhaps the most artistic performance I have ever seen. This show was no less enjoyable, despite lacking the flawless character and Jon and Rick. The guys were clearly enjoying themselves and put a great show together. It rocked and I would certainly recommend it to anyone. All of it was great from the beginning of Asia to the end of YES. I truly appreciated hearing the fantastic progressive rock music of my youth that I love, in a spirited performance by those who still love playing it after all these years.

    Different, still very good ...

by Yesman on 7/4/09The Warfield - San Francisco

The main question going in was whether Benoit David of Montreal, Canada, could effectively replace Jon Anderson, one of the more unique vocal talents in rock and roll. The answer was yes. While slightly different in its tonal qualities and not perhaps as perfect as Anderson's when the Yes frontman was David's age (43), the former frontman for Yes tribute band Close to the Edge could only be exposed in a side-by-side sing-off. And without Anderson, the band opted for a couple of worthwhile offerings from Drama, the only Anderson-less Yes album. And considering Anderson is unavailable since his acute respiratory failure in 2008, David is an solid replacement. Decked out in white and taking a semi-Anderson-like dance around the stage during instrumental interlvals, David interacted well with veterans Steve Howe, Chris Squire and Alan White. Oliver Wakeman was a decent replacement for his dad on keyboards, but his contributions were more understated than his father's and it didn't seem like he got much of a chance to shine. Pieces like Heart of the Sunrise placed heavier emphasis on a guitar-bass duel between Howe and Squire rather than a Howe-Wakeman duel from concert moments in the past. While I still wish the band would mix in few more songs from Open Your Eyes or The Ladder with their almost exclusively 1970-77 material in the three tours in the first half of this decade, it was an enjoyable show and well worth the time and money to attend. Steve Howe, in spite of playing an hour with Asia, had enough left for an impressive and precise two hours with Yes.

    Alpha & Omega

by Buddylove on 7/4/09The Warfield - San Francisco

First time seeing YES, I am a big KING CRIMSON fan and seeing YES I would say that YES is the ALPHA and KING CRIMSON is the OMEGA in progressive rock.

    Yes and Asia rocked!

by Yesgirl on 7/4/09The Warfield - San Francisco

Outstanding concert from Asia's start of "Wildest Dreams" to Yes' finish with "Starship Trooper". Exceeded my high expectations as every single musician on the stage gave a mind-blowing performance.

Yes & Asia haven't lost it

by markcat on 7/3/09The Warfield - San Francisco

This was an amazing show at the Warfield in SF. Asia played all their hits including "Video Killed the Radio star" and "In the court of the Crimson King" These were pleasant surprises. Also, Yes did many of their favorites including rare Tempus Fugit and Astral Traveler. These s guys to shame many of the newer top 40 bands out their today.

    Yes/Asia

by diztrek on 7/3/09The Warfield - San Francisco

The Warfield was a great venue for the Yes/Asia concert. We had lower loge seating which was very comfortable and the sound system was much better than the Filmore and slightly better than the Regency. Most of the staff were very pleasant and helpful. The first band, Asia, was very good. I had not heard them except for Steve Howe who is an incredible guitarist plus he did both Asia and Yes sets! I had been looking forward to Yes for forty years and thoroughly enjoyed everyone EXCEPT Benoit David who has "temporarily" (?) taken over for Jon Anderson. Benoit is a very good entertainer but can he replace or substitute for Jon Anderson? NO! His voice was weak or drowned out at times and even a little flat. He does not have the unique voice that Jon Anderson has. That was my main disappointment but the vocals and especially the instrumentals from Steve Howe, Chris Squire and Alan White were unbelievable. Oliver Wakeman did an acceptable performance as keyboardist taking over for his dad but has a way to go before he is at his Dad's level. If Rick Wakeman and Jon Anderson had been there, this would have been a 5-star review.

I've Seen (and heard) All Good Things

by LoveAndWarfield on 7/3/09The Warfield - San Francisco

As a guy who had his own band and played numerous SF venues, I have an deep appreciation for a live show where all the elements come together perfectly. Sometimes bands are 'on' while the hosting venues seem to be conducting an organized firedrill. Other times it's the venue that's comfortable and the band seems dazed as though set down on the stage by a promoter mothership with no direction or organization. Thursday nights double-bill of Asia and Yes at the Warfield was a perfect example of opportunity meeting preparedness. Not only did the bands deliver, but they seemed to almost sense they were participating in the venue's rebirth under the AEG group. Sure Asia's last show here in May when they snuck into town under the cover of darkness to play the Grand Ballroom was more enthusiastic and watching the new Yes without Jon Anderson feels a little like hearing a pick-up band. All that aside, everthing worked. The bands went on and off on schedule, the staff was courteous and enthusiastic, and the band swag was adequate (does anyone really NEED a signed lyric sheet or coffee mug?). Even the lighting was appropriate (except for that moment when Carl Palmer gestured for them to stop with the aircraft-landing-on-your-head spots during his solo). Bottom line, next time you read a favorite act is going to play here, put down the Wii, put Netflix on hold, make the effort to come, soak up the history of the venue as illustrated by classic photos on the walls, and thank one of the staff for keeping the grand Warfield rocking in the free world. #

Yes was great in a smaller venue

by Gatesstudios on 7/3/09The Warfield - San Francisco

The concert overall was excellent. How can you complain about seeing a favorite band closer than you would in an arena ? Alan White seemed to make a few mistakes, but everyone else was in true form. The new singer Benoit David was amazing. They played a great mix of older stuff from Fragile, Close to the Edge, Time and a Word,The Yes album and Drama. My only real big complaint was the wacky lighting. They had the bright lights that some performers use to illuminate the crowds. Unfortunately, they used them like strobes, flashing them on and off in time with certain parts of the songs. Then they changed from bright white light to red and yellow, but the annoying effect of being blinded (when we were all there to SEE the show)got old very fast.Musically it was great.

    yes/asia show

by sherwood on 7/3/09The Warfield - San Francisco

it was my first time seeing both these bands I really enjoyed the show...main reason for going to the warfield was to see Asia because they had cancelled last time they were in San Francisco I would have liked to hear more song from Asia. John Wetton's voice is still strong and Steve Howe was truly amazing on guitar especially doing double duty with both bands.
