About

There is a reason audiences fell in love with Yann Tiersen’s film soundtracks - his lush melodies sparking nostalgia and longing in a handful of lilting notes. With stripped-back versions of his moody, swooning piano pieces, field recordings, delirious violin and toy-piano whimsy, the multi-instrumentalist’s solo show will make the grand Concert Hall feel intimate and magical – like a show inside a vintage music box.

There’s more to Tiersen than the much-adored scores to Amélie (which was largely taken from his existing studio albums) and Good Bye, Lenin! Inspired by post-punk as well as French folk music and chamber pop, his distinctive style is realised through his genreless approach to composition and mastery of literally dozens of instruments. His new project, EUSA, lays field recordings from his native Breton coast over the twinkling, eloquent piano for which he’s most famous. It is all here in this dazzling live show, where his most beloved pieces will nestle up against some of his most personal work in years.

Won't waste my time or money again

by ldelva on 2/16/11Masquerade - Atlanta

First of all...the event says it was supposed to start at 9:30pm...there was people there since 7:30pm. Well, there was another band playing in a different room but in the same building. Well, when 9:45 came and we didin't see any activity on stage; we asked the bar tenders and they told us that Mr. Tiersen said the he wouldn't compete with the noise from the other band and the he would start playing after 11:00pm. Yes, believe it or not that what the bar tenders told us. We left at 10:30 pm because we made other plans counting on a 9:30pm show start. We also talked to the people at the ticket box and the told us that the doors open at 9:30 but the show was going to start at 11:00pm. Well, in all my time buying tickets at Ticketmaster I have never experienced something like this. When Ticketmaster annouce a time for a show, it always starts at the time announced or maybe 10 to 15 minute delay...no more than that. This show was announced to start at 9:30...in the event promotion it never said doors open at 9:30...it said...Yann Tiersen, Masquerade, Atlanta, GA - Fri, Feb 11, 2011 9:30pm Your Seats: Section - HELL , Row - G1, Start Seat 74, End Seat 75 @ Also, there were no seats...NO SEATS AT ALL...it was an open floor and you were supposed to stand the all show. Worst experience ever.

Yann Tiersen was impressive, not amazing.

by AfiqFreak on 2/14/11Masquerade - Atlanta

The opener Mr. Tiersen chose for the show left something to be desired. I also spoke to someone in the crowd that would have played accordion had not Mr. Tiersen cancelled him a week and a half earlier so it was a disappointment to hear that despite an hour of silence, he wouldn't let him play. His name was Jeffry. The concert with Yann himself was an interesting experience. However, the performance itself was no eye catcher. All the songs that he and his band played were from later pieces which disappointed me since I was hoping to hear something from perhaps the Amelie or Goodbye Lenin soundtrack. His ability to play the violin is more than impressive and his solo was definitely the highlight of the show. Other than that, the show was very average but enjoyable.

Yann was good, venue was awful

by LanceB on 2/14/11Masquerade - Atlanta

The show was at Masqerade in Atlanta. This was not the right venue for this type show. It was too crowded and the sound was terrible. Yann geta a 4, Masqerade gets a 2.

    Yann Tiersen's magic <3

by tsey on 2/14/11Masquerade - Atlanta

Awesome band, Wonderful art. I think I would still prefer to watch Yann with a big orchestra like he's upcoming venue in NY , though but still Atlanta MAsquerede performance was really good.

Love to see Yann Tiersen live.

by berbar on 2/1/11Luckman Fine Arts Complex - Los Angeles

I'm not a big Yann Tiersen fan. My wife is. But we've seen him and his band live twice. And I really love his new music and the feeling they put into their music. Overall a great show, both for music lovers and Yann Tiersen' s fans.

    Dust Lane

by Zeroanalogue on 2/1/11Luckman Fine Arts Complex - Los Angeles

Excellent show, would have liked to see more material from other albums (especially piano/accordion tracks) but this was a Dust Lane show. Beyond that, I'm highly satisfied with the richness of Tiersen's live sound.

Yann Tiersen - Master of Progression

by MrDiran on 1/31/11Luckman Fine Arts Complex - Los Angeles

Will it be Rock or Orchestra music... Mr. Tiersen has taken progression in music to a whole new level. Just sit back, close your eyes, and get ready to ride the musical roller coaster known as french influenced progressive rock.

    about Yann

by minn621 on 1/31/11Luckman Fine Arts Complex - Los Angeles

my composer looked very tired, sad and wore out :-(... perhaps it is the non-stop touring that did it. overall, the opening act for the Dust Lane event was awesome at the Luckman Pavilion. I actually like the cd Dust Lane now more that i have heard Yann in person do it. I can't wait to see him again in Seattle on march 5th at Neumos which I think is a more personal and smaller venue. He is a wonderful composer and full of magic... but I did not have enough of him at Luckman's and he has such a vast repertoire of sheer extraordinary pieces... I can listen to him all the time as i have for the past 8 years...

    Lots of noise, little music

by blerg on 1/31/11Luckman Fine Arts Complex - Los Angeles

We walked out of this concert. We found it quite disappointing in terms of quality...honestly, it was more "noise" than music. Furthermore, everything that was done seemed to be derivative of other artists who had done each component better...pink floyd, kronos quartet, can't remember the others, but there were many.

Loved it, loved it, loved it! I was hoping he'd play from Amelie, but what was played was just as awesome. I will like to see him again.

    Not what I paid for

by IIIemperorIII on 1/31/11Luckman Fine Arts Complex - Los Angeles

I was hoping to hear Yann Tiersen play the songs that I know him for and the ones that have attracted the love of his fans from all over - or at the very least some new songs that weren't a major departure from his style. Instead we heard some new project he is involved in. The entire show (with the exception of one song) was all new stuff. It was awesome to see him live, but it was really disappointing to not hear the favorites...

yann tiersen is really amazing, seeing him live was incredible and i loved it, but he only played for an hour. i've seen other people only play for an hour, but their tickets were cheaper. $47 is somewhat expensive for 60 minutes of performance. he was sosososososo good though so it was worth it. asdfghjfasfsadfdsf he was really good.

    Excellent Rare NYC Appearance

by vyieort on 10/12/10The Concert Hall - New York

It's great to see such a talented multi-instrumentalist perform in a small space, not overcharge for tickets, not overcharge for t-shirts, and act humble while amazing the crowd. This is exactly what happened at Yann's recent show in New York. Thankfully I was able to get a ticket last minute. His new album departs a bit from his past compositions, but it's undeniably Tiersen nonetheless. Highly recommended.

    Great but tooooo short

by Maggy102 on 10/12/10The Concert Hall - New York

We loved the concert. Music was great. We wish he played more of his old shows, included accordeon in his playing and made show longer. One hour doe not cut. Show was supposed to be longer (or at least it was advertised as 2 hour show) We also wish we weren't kicked out after show and allowed to talk to him or at least get authographs.

    AMAZING!!!!!!!!

by LBoogie5 on 10/11/10The Concert Hall - New York

Tiersen is an utter genius. He was above and beyond what I had imagined. He is clearly a master of any instrument placed in his able hands. HIGHLY recommended.

    short but sweet

by felber on 10/10/10The Concert Hall - New York

Yann Tiersen left the audience captivated, for all of 55 minutes, and then it was over. Apparently brevity is his forte. He is such an amazing musician, a talent to behold, but I wish he would've graced us with his presence (and performance) for a little longer.
