by Chuck on 10/8/23Paramount Theatre - SeattlePrecluded from in-person enjoyment of such concerts for many years, this reprise was joyous to the max. I was transported back to those few wonderful experiences and reminded of just how delightful they can be. WM and the LCJO remain vividly memorable for me not only because of the glorious music, but also the diversity of the group, white, black, old, young, men, woman, and more importantly their demeanor, their visible enjoyment of one another, their obvious support of one another, their attractive deference to one another, IOW, their humility, their devotion to making fabulous music as a team when every one of them is of star-quality soloist stature which each one subordinates to maximize their impact as a whole. Perhaps the most dramatic manifestation was the humility demonstrated by Wynton sitting in the back row, just one among the trumpets, never standing, never drawing attention to himself, always pointing to his colleagues, always stimulating audience appreciation of his teammates. Merely composing this review takes me back to tasting the night once again. And to give my precious daughter this chance to taste stacked privilege upon privilege. I struggle to rave sufficiently. Thank you, STG, for setting the pleasure in front of me.
