Great seats, great sounds, amazing show in the Catskills.
As a musician myself, I’m a huge jazz fan and also a fan of the bethel venue. The concert was under attended; place was half empty. Musicians extremely talented but Marsalis himself wasn’t featured enough, never came forward on the stage or was rarely featured on the big screen. Concert was short. Cameraman failed to feature any soloists on the big screen beyond a quick glimpse.
What a treat to sit in the beautiful setting that Bethel Woods truly is, on a steamy, hot Summer night and listen to this amazing jazz orchestra. It isn't just Wynton who is amazing (though he IS). Each and every member of this group is an incredible artist who together make for a memorable evening. Even if you came to the performance with the misconception that Jazz isn't your "thing"- you would have walked away a true convert. Amazing sounds, emotion, soul - MUSIC - was laid out on that stage. A feast. How lucky we all were to have been given a chance to enjoy it. A perfect Summer's Night. A dream indeed. Thank you Bethel Woods for booking them and thank you to all the musicians in the Jazz at Lincoln Center Orchestra (JLCO) who came and gave us such a treat. Cannot wait to hear you play again!
Wynton and company were amazing, consummate musicians. Bethel Woods is such a wonderful place, but this small jazz group would, IMHO, been more effective in the Event Gallery with a smaller space where we would have truly appreciated their sound better, and they certainly put out a good sound, but it got a bit lost at the edges of the Pavilion where we were seated. The Pavilion lends itself better to bands with lots of amplification. Either way, glad I got to hear them!
Lovely story with classic Chaplin comedy beats. This performance came with a live accompaniment!
The presentation was amazing! Incredibly talented musicians! I felt as if I were in a dream! Kudos also to the wonderful crew from the theater! They were really helpful and nice helping people navigate to their seats! 100000% recommended!
The show opens with the pianist playing the most beautiful music, then the whole orchestra joins in, and I’m thinking, This is the most fantastic music I’ve ever heard. When the film started, it was great to see how vibrant the images were. The little kid who played Louis couldn’t be cuter. The whole time I’m thinking, Okay, Wynton’s gonna stroll out anytime. But he never did! It wasn’t until the end of the performance that I realized he was sitting and playing right there on stage, in the front/middle. Several times throughout the performance I recognized his playing, but I thought he was playing from off stage! Anyhow, it was all fantastic.
This combination of classic rag and jazz with some new compositions and classical music in the mix was superbly performed. The film is fascinating in its style and content
We were all memorized from beginning to end, very well done!!!
The silent movie was well done and so was the music
