About

WWE SmackDown Live on Tour

A smackdown is when one gets beaten in battle so completely that there's no doubt about who won the fight. There could be no more appropriate name for this WWE staple, one that has seen some of the bloodiest and most intense fights of the modern WWE era.

After taking over the WWE in the early 1980s, CEO Vince McMahon was on a tear to step up the organization's game and bring its message to new generations and demographics of fans. He started by hiring prospective superstars like Hulk Hogan and Roddy Piper and setting up events like WrestleMania.

By the late '90s, new additions like Stone Cold Steve Austin, The Rock, Mick Foley, Triple H, Kurt Angle, Kane, and The Hardy Boyz necessitated something... bigger. This period was called the "Attitude Era," it needed an appropriately grand event to showcase these newer fighters, and Vince McMahon had come up with storylines that required more space. McMahon created WWE SmackDown Live in 1999 for just this purpose. The new weekly event was a brand extension meant to exist alongside Raw, another massive wrestling show, but eventually the two overlapped.

Since it arrived in the middle of the "Attitude Era," where fighters were becoming increasingly abrasive and personal with their drama, SmackDown featured more adult-oriented content, politically incorrect characters, and immersive and intense feuds. And for many, it was as important as something like Monday Night Football.

SmackDown has been broadcast from more than 160 arenas in more than 140 cities, and it has taken place in seven countries. As of October 2018, the show had taped more than 1,000 episodes. Throughout its history, SmackDown has had a solid diversity of material, with special episodes like "Christmas from Baghdad," the "Eddie Guerrero Tribute Show," "SmackDown All-Star Kick-Off," "Sin City SmackDown," and "The Rock Return Show."

by Xstilcrzy on 6/16/11Dunkin' Donuts Center - Providence

Anyone that follows the WWE has got to experience it it up close and personal. The athletes put on a fantastic performance and it was really cool to see how it produced for TV. We sat in row c at ringside and it was almost like being a part of the show. My wife, who only went for my sake actually loved it too!

    Don't bother with Smackdown

by DavidT1966 on 6/16/11Dunkin' Donuts Center - Providence

Overall a waste of time. Had to sit rthrough an hour of NXT with no-name wrestlers. Then had to sit through 45 minutes of WWE Superstars. Again all no name wrestlers. When Smackdown finally came on it was about 50% advertisinsements, blank screen and previously filmed footage.

    RKO, RKO, RKO!!!

    by Dandjny3169 on 6/16/11Smackdown Live - Providence

Considering the fact that it was sandwiched between a 3 Hour Raw the night before, and the Capitol Punishment PPV on Sunday, I was not dissappointed at all. It definitely was better than I had expected. Brought my wife's little brother, got there early, got a couple of autographs (Drew McIntire was so friendly with us) and was blown out of our seats when Kane's pyro was lit off. 2 thumbs up!!

    WWE Smackdown, june 14

by JoePodei on 6/16/11Dunkin' Donuts Center - Providence

Not bad, NxT was ok, Superstars was cool with Kanes appearance, and Smackdown was good. My only complaint is that Smackdown doesn't have enough of the cool superstars. I realize that its time to move into new superstars as older superstars get, well, older, just mAybe not so fast.

    wwe smack down

by mcote422 on 6/16/11Dunkin' Donuts Center - Providence

loved the show, loved seeing randy orton and christian and definately big show, but was disappointed we did not see randy orton fight, he just got to talk..... didn't like that one wrestler came out and fought 2 different times with different wrestlers, seems like there were alot of "fillers" but still the standout fights were great!! would have been great to see john cena too, but i know you cannot see them all in one night.

    Seats were not great

by JJwwe on 6/16/11Dunkin' Donuts Center - Providence

The show itself looked great. More of the big name talent (Stone cold, Rock, John Cena, r Truth, Ray Mysterio, ect.) would have been great. It kind of stunk that we couldn't hear the commentators, Michael Cole & Booker T. Forget buying food or drinks there, just me and my son, 2 hot dogs, 2 fries & 2 soda's came to $28. My son was happy he got to go though. So that's all that matters. He had a Blast.

    WWE Smackdown!!!!!!

by mombeans03 on 6/16/11Dunkin' Donuts Center - Providence

I was quite impressed, I did pay quite a bit on the tickets but in the end I was very pleased! I was also surprised to have 3 shows in 1. I bought these tickets to take my son for his 8th Birthday and it was our first time going to see that type of event and we all where Happy and cant wait until Smackdown comes someday! Definantly would go again!

    WWE

by fantasmic112 on 6/16/11Dunkin' Donuts Center - Providence

Very few of the good wrestlers were there. I felt like it was a waste of money. For the wrestlers that were there I could have saved myself $110 plus souviners and let him watch it from home. I have been many times when my 15yr old was younger and this by far was the worst event for the WWE I have ever been to.It was my 9yr olds 1st time going and he was so excited but was also very disapointed. I think from now on we may just watch for free from our televison set.

    Smackdown was good....Raw still wins

by Mitchell1979 on 6/16/11Dunkin' Donuts Center - Providence

Overall it was good, you get a decent mix of superstars, but this show doesnt compare to the last raw show that came thru providence. Far superior....still fills the need for any wwe junkies though. My kid loved it, so all in all thats all that matters to me.

    Smackdown Unforgettable

by Neeterz on 6/13/11Sprint Center - Kansas City

It was great. Would have loved to be closer and want to see more of the wrestleing and less of the talking from them..

It was good but not great

by KCRoyalman on 4/6/11Sprint Center - Kansas City

I have seen many WWE events and this one was one of my least favorites. The card was really weak and they had announced a tag title match involving Edge and Christian a day earlier but then yanked that. That was depressing. None of the matches were that great.

    Cheesily Put Together

by NewerWWEfan on 3/30/11i wireless Center - Moline

It was great to see the Superstars. However, the entrance was completely cheesy, the event seemed like it was put together last minute, and the seating arrangement was less than desirable. Edge was so impressive because he stayed awhile after the event was over to sign autographs and touch the fans. He touched my nephew's hand which totally made his day!

    smackdown was awesome

by james0325 on 3/23/11Sprint Center - Kansas City

smackdown was awesome . it was longer than i thought it would be which was fine with me. the only thing that was not great was minimum number of doors to allow people in and then having to wait once we got in when they did open doors. once admitted, we were at front of line, there was only 20 minutes before the event started. not much time to get stuff that we wanted.would be nice if able to enter a section to check on seats instead of just best available

    something different

by Chelle4 on 3/21/11Sprint Center - Kansas City

This is my third WWE event that I've been to and this particular time it seem like less entertainers showed up. The only reason why suspect that is that 3 or 4 of the same wrestlers, wrestled 3 or more times in different matches and I think that's very unusual. My children and myself watch it on TV and I don't recall them getting knocked all around the ring and then coming back out for the next match!!!
